Bear-san Shows her Skills to the Guild Master
âSo, Guild Master, what do you know about fairies?â (Noa)
âSorry, Iâve never seen any fairies before. I only know about them through rumors and what Iâve heard from the knights talking about them, and from what Iâve heard, I was convinced that they were real. Also, it seems like there is someone they know who can see fairies.â (Guild Master)
âIs it the Lord?â (Noa)
âIt is most likely him or someone related to him.â (Guild Master)
Was Primmeâs sister using the Lordâs magic power to show herself to others?
If so, Primmeâs sister might be lending her power to the Lord.
There was a thin line between being captive or only trying to help someone.
Hmmm, how should we approach this?
âCarla-san doesnât seem to know about the Lord, does the Guild Master know about the current Lord?â (Noa)
I was curious about Primmeâs sister, but right now, we needed information about the Lord.
âYouâre a smart lad even for your age. Well, what I know is that he is really skilled with magic.â (Guild Master)
âBut you donât know the details of what happened after he went to the royal capital, right?â (Noa)
âYeah, thatâs why I researched about him.â (Guild Master)
The Guild Master answered Noaâs question.
âCarla-san didnât seem to know though.â (Noa)
âI didnât ask anyone to look it up for me. I simply used my privilege as the Adventurersâ Guild Master to do a little personal research about him.â (Guild Master)
âAnd the results?â (Noa)
âI heard that he excelled at the royal capitalâs academy. His magic and his studies were excellent.â (Guild Master)
A genius, huh?
âSo, when he was a student, apparently, he was passionately researching something.â (Guild Master)
âCould it be?â (Noa)
âRight, itâs about fairies. His research focused on fairies.â (Guild Master)
âThen, probably at some point, he met Primmeâs older sister and brought her with him.â (Noa)
For now, we have at least found some kind of connection, albeit not proven.
âI donât think he will be able to see us fairies just because heâs been studying us, though.â (Primme)
âIâm sure it might not just be some random fairy he met. It probably just happened that the Lord could see your sister or something.â (Guild Master)
Everyone agreed with the Guild Masterâs words.
When I went to the fairy forest, there were many fairies, and I was sure that there were even more hiding or not living in the forest.
This time, however, we could only conclude that maybe the Lord was on the same magic wavelength as Primmeâs sister, making her visible to him.
âStill, thereâs something I donât understand. If he only wanted to learn about fairies, why is he taking the magic power away from the residents and giving that power to the knights to collect magic stones?â (Rosa)
The Guild Master shook his head at Rosa-sanâs words.
âWe donât know that much either, but it might surely be related to fairies.â (Guild Master)
Since his main focus in his research was about fairies, it was quite possible that the current events were related.
However, just as Carla-san said, we didnât really know.
âCould it be⦠to extract power from fairiesâ¦â (Yuna)
âMy sisterâs!?â (Primme)
Suddenly, the thought that came to my mind leaked out of my mouth, and Primme reacted.
âNo, itâs just a possibility, and it doesnât mean itâs really the case. So calm down.â (Yuna)
Fairies always had a special place in fantasy.
It wouldnât be strange if they had some mysterious powers.
There was a good chance that fairies had outstanding powers that we just didnât know about.
The Lord was a person who was researching fairies, so it might be possible that he knew something about those unknown fairy powers.
But I couldnât outright mention this in front of Primme.
It was possible that Primmeâs older sister had suffered an even worse fate. And if I also mentioned that right now, Primme might just move out on her own to look for her sister without thinking about the consequences.
âSpeaking of which, why did Carla-san say it was dangerous when I tried to ask about the Lord?â (Rosa)
âIf you speak ill of the Lord in this town, you will be purged. In the past, people who opposed having their magic powers taken away suffered harshly. Thatâs why everyone tries not to talk about the Lord. It would be troublesome if the knights heard about it.â (Guild Master)
âThatâs terrible. Itâs the role of a lord to make sure the residents can live happily. He should not take away the magic power of his people and subject them to cruel treatment!â (Noa)
When Noa heard the story, she reacted with a shocked expression.
âEven though youâre still a child, you have a good head.â (Guild Master)
âNo, uh, thatâs just what came to my mind.â (Noa)
Well, Noa was the daughter of a feudal lord after all, and although Cliff failed in the orphanage case, he basically did his best for the townâs residents. To Noa, who grew up watching her parentsâ backs, the Lord of this town must seem like a terrible lord.
Personally, Iâd read about feudal lords who exercise bad governance by squeezing money from the residents in novels and manga. There were also those who seized women for themselves. I believe that such bad lords really existed out there.
Then again, it was not limited to feudal lords. There were both good and bad people everywhere.
âSo, in the end, what are we going to do? Maybe try to investigate what the lordâs aim is? And of course, we want to find out where the fairies are, but I also hope to find out why they are collecting magic stones.â (Blitz)
âHey, I wonât mind helping you harass them.â (Guild Master)
The Guild Master offered a suggestion in response to Blitzâs words.
Apparently, the Guild Master had been subjugating monsters by himself.
Come to think of it, Carla-san did mention that.
Basically, if the Adventurerâs Guild received a request to subdue a monster, or if there was a monster on the roads, normally the Adventurerâs Guild would inform the Knights to deal with it.
So, from that angle, the Guild Master would be stealing the jobs of the knights and giving away some of the magic stones to the residents.
After all, most of the magic stones were taken by the knights and the feudal Lord by using various tricks, so the residents were also in trouble, so it seemed like he started this project to help the residents at least a little bit.
âStill, itâs just a small amount with me doing it on my own. But I hope that I could increase the amount I gather even by a little bit.â (Guild Master)
âAre you not buying magic stones from other towns?â (Noa)
Noaâs question was to be expected from a feudal lordâs daughter.
Usually, if a town didnât have enough supply of something, they would buy it from somewhere else, like from a neighboring town.
âIt seems like merchants and the commercial guilds are doing it. After all, thatâs their job. Itâs not our business.â (Guild Master)
Thatâs a reasonable argument.
Each guild had a role.
If they didnât stick to their roles, it would be like a Japanese language teacher teaching math.
âSo, that means we only need to defeat more monsters before the knights can do so to steal magic stones.â (Blitz)
âThatâs right. Only your party is capable of doing so in this town right now. Also, be careful, I donât want any of you dying on me and giving me trouble in the process.â (Guild Master)
The Guild Master said as he looked at Blitz and his party.
âWe may not be as good as Yuna over there, but I think weâve been through quite a few battles of our own. We at least wonât get in the way.â (Blitz)
Blitz said in response as he looked at me.
âHey, I can understand your strength with your party, but that little bear girl? I donât know if I can rely on her. No, if I think about it normally, can I really rely on her?â (Guild Master)
The Guild Master said so while pointing at me.
I guess he wasnât taught to not point fingers at people.
However, I could understand the Guild Masterâs feelings. I think anyone would be troubled if they were told to work with a girl dressed like a bear.
However, Blitz and the others looked at each other and laughed.
âWell, if you look at Yuna-chanâs style, youâll think so. Sheâs a small girl after all.â (Rosa)
âYuna, is the strongest.â (Ran)
âYuna, is strong.â (Grimos)
âThe bear there is stronger and more kind-hearted than any adventurer I know.â (Blitz)
Ran, Grimos, Blitz and the others continued following Rosa-sanâs words.
âW-what are you talking about!â (Guild Master)
It was embarrassing and I wish they would stop. After all, I was the kind of person who only acted out of self-interest. Not the kind of person that Blitz and others said I was.
âYeah, Yuna-san is a strong adventurer.â (Noa)
I tried to deny it, but even Noa agreed with Blitz and the others.
âInteresting. If youâre going to say that much, Iâll check out the girlâs ability. Iâll decide after that.â (Guild Master)
âHey, donât decide on your own.â (Yuna)
He was now going to check Blitzâs ability, so why was he checking my ability?
âYuna. As an adventurer, I donât know why you want to hide your abilities, but itâs better not to hide them right now. No one will open their hearts to those who hide their true strength.â (Blitz)
âUghâ (Yuna)
Blitz seemed to have read my mind and said so.
But Blitzâs words were correct, so there was nothing I could say in return.
âAlso, if you are planning to do something dangerous, it would be annoying to have them worry about you every time. Yuna likes to do things by herself.â (Blitz)
Blitz said so as if he were reading my heart.
Did he have a skill to read minds?
Was that why he was able to capture the hearts of women?
âAlso, Yuna should consider the feelings of people that are waiting for you while not knowing your abilities. If they think of you as a normal girl, they wonât allow you to do anything dangerous. Theyâll be very worried. Of course, even if you showed them your power, their anxiety and worries might still not go away, but that would at least make them less anxious.â (Blitz)
Blitz was right, I guess.
If I were to fight the knights, I would make Carla-san and the Guild Master worried. But if they knew my abilities, they wouldnât have to worry that much.
Maybe Blitz said something like that to show the Guild Masters how good I was.
I understood what Blitz meant, so I decided to prove myself to the Guild Master.
I moved to the field behind the Adventurerâs Guild and made arrangements with the guild master.
***
ââ¦â (Yuna)
The Guild Master was now on the floor crawling.
âI canât believe it.â Carla-san said.
âAs expected of Yuna-sanâ¦â said Noa.
âYuna is strong after all.â said Blitz.
âItâs outstanding, and she can also use magic.â Rosa-san said.
âOne person that can act as both a warrior and a magician.â Ran said.
âI want to try fighting Yuna as well.â Grimos said.
Blitz and others who were watching the match between me and the Guild Master shared their thoughts.
âI lost to a girl dressed as a bearâ¦â (Guild Master)
I showed my abilities to the Guild Master so that he wouldnât get worried.
Of course, I didnât use my strongest attacks such as bear magic.
If I used it, he would definitely die.
âBy the way, that girl over there.â (Guild Master)
The Guild Master looked at Noa, who was younger.
Well, I guess, I expected that reaction from him.
âI have studied magic, but I canât fight.â (Noa)
The Guild Master and Carla-san looked relieved at Noaâs words.
âNoire-chan, you can use magic?â (Rosa)
âYes, Yuna-san taught me the basics.â (Noa)
Saying so, she created a palm-sized clay bear doll.
Everyone was impressed when they saw the bear made of clay.
The more precise the shape, the more precise the magic manipulation and image needed.
It seemed like she had been studying properly since then.
I also told them about Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear, and how they could transform, and that they were Noaâs bodyguards.
âMy common sense is crumbling.â (Guild Master)
It bothers me when I hear people say things like that, but to me, this other world itself was outside my common sense.
Magic? What was that? How mind-blowing!
âI understand the girlâs abilities. Then, why donât I test out the abilities of the rest of you.â (Guild Master)
Blitz and his party also showed their abilities to the Guild Master.
The Guild Master was strong, but so were Blitz and his party.
