Chapter 9

On Wednesday, I got home and tried to continue my day as if nothing happened.

However my mind caught up with me, and decided to annoy me.

"You're gonna get your magic any day now."

Lucas's voice kept ringing in the back of my head, repeating the same sentence he told me just only hours ago.

As if someone time traveled, Thursday came by in a blink of a eye, and I quickly got ready to go to school.

That day, Jason didn't show up during first period, and neither did Lucas last period.

Sightly annoyed, I call Jason first to ask him where he is, but he hadn't answered.

I then forced myself to call Lucas, however got my ego bruised when he didn't answer either.

Finally, Friday came.

I woke up easily from my alarm clock for once. I leave my bed and do all the things I need to do in the bathroom before heading back out into my room.

I choose to simply wear black leggings and a navy green t-shirt.

Sliding into my converse, I spray perfume and apply deodorant before heading downstairs.

Once I'm in the kitchen, I'm not surprised when I see the glass with orange juice with a note next to it.

Stay healthy! - Dad

Rolling my eyes, I begin heading to the sink with the cup in my hand.

Just as I'm about to pour it out, I pause and take a quick sniff of the liquid inside.

It smells like orange juice. It tastes like orange juice. What could he be putting in the glass to... freeze my powers?

I decide not to dwell on it and just pour it in the sink.

I'll figure it out one day.

♡

I get to school in 13 minutes, walking a little faster than usual.

When I get inside, I start searching for Lucas and Jason, who both still haven't answered my questions.

Once I've turned the third corner, in the very end of the hall, I spot a frustrated looking Jason talking to Lucas using hand motions.

Lucas furrows his eyebrows at what Jason said and responds.

Just as I'm about to step forward to ask them what's going on, I suddenly come in contact with someones chest.

I look up a little higher and look into Adam's sky blue eyes. I give him a small smile and try looking behind him, only to see that Jason and Lucas are already gone. Damn it.

"Hey Sunshine, how you doing?" He smirks, twirling a strand of my wavy hair.

I grimace and smack his hand away. "Good, liking my personal space. You?" I take a step back and really focus at his facial features.

God, he's really hot. Like model hot.

"Same, but I enjoy staying in your personal space," he takes a step forward and I raise my eyebrows.

After a couple moments of silence, Adam tilts his head to the side, looking at me more intensely. "So Sunshine, what about it, huh? Me. You. Date," he smirks and I raise my eyebrows higher if possible.

"Why, aren't you confident," I chuckle.

Noticing I didn't answer his question, he repeats. "What do you say? Wanna go out? Sunday. Noon. I'll pick you up," he demands. Not being able to hold it in, I laugh again.

He narrows his eyes at me. "What's so funny?" He asks.

"The fact that you think I'm going to go out with you," I say through my light chuckles.

His eyebrows shoot up. "You're not?" His voice filled with surprise.

I pat his shoulder just as the warning bell rings. "You got that right."

Turning to the other side, I begin making my way to Calculus. "You can't ignore our love forever," Adam laughs behind me.

I hide my chuckle when I see people looking between the both of us.

When I spot my classroom, I see Lauren and Anna right in front of the entrance.

"Hey," I smile once I'm near them. They both turn to my direction and Anna grins. "Emmy, Lauren and Dy-"

"Shut up, Anna!" Lauren shouts.

"Lauren and Dylan... what?" I smirk.

Lauren looks down at her feet and blushes. Wait a minute...

"Are you guys official?" I ask, grinning almost as widely as Anna.

If even possible, she turns more red. "Yeah since last night. We're going out today."

"Wow, who would have known. Out of all the guys, Dylan managed to break through your thick shell," I laugh happily.

"Oh shut up, Emma," Lauren grumbles, going into class.

Both Anna and I laugh behind her, and walk inside to take our seats.

20 minutes later, we're in the middle of a lesson when Jason finally graces us with his presence.

After Mrs. Carlton disciplines him, he heads to his seat.

I turn around from my seat. "Are you okay? What happened?" I ask once Mrs. Carlton calls for a 5 minute brain break.

Jason looks up from his phone, suddenly turning serious. "I'll tell you after school," he whispers, turning back to look at his phone.

Okay...

♡

I'm impatient.

It's a fault of mine. I got it from my mother.

So when lunch rolled around, I shot out of my chair in English and rushed to find Lucas and Jason.

Which didn't exactly work out as planned, because Lauren found me 0.7 seconds later, demanding me not to leave her with the most talkative human being ever. Her words, not mine.

When all four of us enter the cafe, I purchase small fries and eat it quickly before dismissing myself from the group, letting them know I had to tell Jason something important.

For some reason, Jasmine's eyes flashed at that.

Once I've left the cafeteria, I begin going through every hall, trying to find them.

Almost 10 minutes later, I promise myself this is the last hall I'm checking.

Once my eyes cover the whole hall, I notice it's vacant. I start to turn around, however come to a stop when I hear noises.

Slowly turning back around, I take slow steps forward until I find where the noise is coming from.

Lucas.

Right at the next corner, a girl - most likely a year younger - is against the wall with Lucas's hand cupping neck as he's kissing her.

If they weren't kissing, I would assume he was killing her.

I don't even realize I've been rolling my eyes continuously.

I turn around, already knowing he's not gonna stop anytime soon, however I come to a stop when I bump into a hard chest.

I look up and my eyes connect with brown eyes I'm so familiar with.

"Hi...." I mumble, and Jason looks behind me, taking in the scene in front of him.

He rolls his eyes and moves around me. "Lucas, let's go," Jason speaks loudly, and Lucas rips off his lips from hers like they were on fire.

I cross my arms, looking at him disapprovingly. After Lucas finishes staring at us both for a while. Lucas notices the other party. "Go. Now," he demands, his voice sounding angry.

She scoffs, and looks at him again. A frightened look takes over her face, and runs the other direction. Leaving the three of us alone.

It's seconds later until Lucas says something. "Don't give me that disproving look, Princess," he somewhat growls.

I uncross my arms, and widen my eyes. Just as I'm about to retort, Jason beats me to it. "What crawled up your ass and died?"

"If something crawled up his ass to give him his shitty personality, they must have climbed up there a long time ago," I say, receiving a hard look from Lucas.

Just as Lucas opens his mouth to respond, he's interrupted by Jason. "Oh, no. I know the beginning of a fight when I see one. Let's go," Jason starts walking towards the direction the girl went.

"Where are we going?" I shout behind him.

"You wanted to talk? Let's go," he walks a little faster, and I jog to catch up.

A second after I take my place at Jason's right, Lucas goes to his left.

How did he get here so fast?

Jason peaks inside a classroom, and opens the door wider when no ones there.

I look around and see a handful of math posters around the room before taking a seat on a rolling chair.

"So what's going on?" I ask as I'm spinning around.

Suddenly, the seat stops moving and I stare wide eyed at Lucas. "Stop," he says lowly.

Is it just me or is he more pissed than usual?

Jason shoves Lucas so he's standing next to him. "My mom got a call last night," Jason grumbles.

I raise my eyebrows, encouraging him to continue. "And... what happened?"

"She was talking about witch hunters," he rubs his forehead, and I furrow my eyebrows.

"Witch hunters? What the hell is that? People who hunt witches?" I start internally freaking out in my mind.

"Worse. Witches who hunt witches. They have this special ability where they can see who has supernatural powers. And apparently, they're here," Jason's fearful eyes meet mine, and I start rabbling.

"Are you sure here, Berkley? Maybe there's another Berkley! Wait how does your mom know? How did you find more stuff about witch hunters? What-"

"Emma, relax," Lucas demands. I move my eyes away from Jason and glare at him.

"How can I relax? There is people who are created to kill us in town! You should be freaking out!" I try to yell quietly.

"Before you start arguing for the billionth time, I need to add one more piece of information," Jason looks between us before settling on looking at me.

"Which is..." I start for him.

"Well, my mom was mentioning a place where they are probably staying. 213 Winsor Street," he pauses before continuing. "I was thinking we could check it out."

"Are you... insane? You want to go to a place where these people live, who are born to kill us? No. No way," I ramble, disbelief fills me at the thought that he's even suggesting it.

"Emma, you don't get it. These people are around us. They've gone undercover. We need to find out who's hunting us before it's too late," he tries to explain but I continue shaking my head.

"No. Nope. Going there would be a suicide mission," I reply, not budging to listen to his pleas.

"Emma," Lucas begins. "We need to go. If you don't want to go, fine. But we're both going whether you like it or not."

"The hell you are! Sorry, but you're not dying yet Lucas. I've got it all planned out, and you're not ruining that for me," I cross my arms.

His eyebrows shoot up. "You thought about my death?" He asks.

"Obviously," I say in a duh tone.

"Lucas is right, Emma. If you don't come, we're still going," Jason looks at me guiltily and I shake my head.

Staying silent for a couple of moments, I consider my options. Me not going with them will end up with them messing up and getting caught. Or, where I go with them and they will be supervised and maybe have a 5% higher chance of surviving.

Finally caving in, I drop my hands dramatically. "Fine, you win."

Jason grins and high fives Lucas, who has a hint of a smile on his face.

"Rule! Rules," I yell as Jason's laughing happily. They both turn to face me, sobering up. "The second we sense danger, we're out. And no contacting if you see anyone there. In, and out. That's it. Got it?" I ask them, and just like soldiers, they nod without any facial expression taking over their faces.

"Meet me after school okay?" Jason says, dropping the act.

"Got it boss," I salute just as the warning bell rings.

"We gonna go right after school?" Lucas asks, turning to face Jason.

He nods, and turns to me. "You okay with that?"

"I'll probably need to go home really quick," my expression changing to discomfort.

"That's fine. You go home, and we'll wait for you at my house before we head out," Jason smiles, lightening the mood.

"I can not believe you're dragging me into this," I mumble under my breath.

The bell rings again and I widen my eyes. "Shit, gotta go!" I don't wait for their response as I fly out of the classroom.

Less than a minute later, I enter the girls change room, and it's completely empty.

Cursing under my breath, I drop my bag on the bench and search for my gym clothes, only to find it not inside.

More creative swear words float out of my mouth before I can stop them.

I run to the other entrance and crack open it slightly, hearing my teacher calling everyone to stand in a line for attendance. I look at the line until I spot Jasmine's blonde head. "Jasmine! Pst!"

She turns and furrows her eyebrows. "Em? What's up?"

"Do you have any extra gym clothes? I'm desperate. I'll even wear them if they're sweaty," I plead.

Jasmine laughs and shakes her head. "Yeah, yeah no problem. It's in my locker. You know which one it is, right?" I nod fast, and she laughs again.

"Great. Now get ready before Coach Marcy gets to the S's," she shoos me.

Once Jasmine gives me her locker combination, and rush to the locker, easily unlocking it. I find the clean pair of clothes at the top and I shimmy out of my current clothes.

Once I'm in the t-shirt, and shorts, I'm about to close the locker until I spot something sticking out of her bag. Don't touch it. It's not your property.

Not bothering to listen to myself, I pick up the handle, widening my eyes. Oh God.

Why does Jasmine have a gun?!

I take out the magazine from the gun and widen my eyes when I see it's full.

Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God.

I put it back inside, dropping it back into her bag, and finally slamming the locker shut.

That wasn't there. You were just hallucinating.

I try to believe that when I enter the gym, facing Jasmine.

A nice, boy loving, new girl from Georgia.

I think.

♡

After school comes as quick as a flash of lightening.

Gym was hard to get through. Mostly because I was distracted.

Maybe it's a really cool water gun designed as a really scary looking gun?

No, Emma. You saw the bullets. Not a water gun.

True to what we've said, we all meet at Jason's car and we head home.

I run inside my house, not surprised it's empty.

Once I'm in my room, I grab black sweatpants and a black long sleeve shirt.

I grab my black Nike Frees and head downstairs with my phone in my hand.

Once I shut the door, I quickly lock it and begin to wonder how easy it's going to be to use magic to lock the house, and not use the key.

Crossing the lawn, I soon am in front of Jason's house. I open the door, and spot Jason and Lucas talking while sitting at the kitchen table.

"Ready to get this over with?" I ask them both and Jason grins.

"Let's do some witch hunting. Ha, get it? Because they're witch hunters... and we're gonna hunt them... no? Okay," Jason grumbles and leaves the house, leaving me alone with Lucas.

"Um... so let's go?" I nervously ask Lucas as he's staring me down.

Without saying anything, he stands up from his seat and walks past me, leaving the house.

Okay, then.

♡

A little less than 30 minutes later, we're in front of the abandoned building that looked like a place where scientists did studies on animals and humans against their will.

Probably will look into that later.

"Emma," Jason whispers behind me as we're walking.

Letting Lucas walk past me, I turn around and wait for Jason to reach me. "What's up?"

"Just... if you see anything sketchy, let us know, so we can leave okay? I really don't want one of us to end up shot," he says, looking at me with a little bit of fear.

"Don't worry. And why are you worried? You're the one who wanted me to come anyways," I mumble.

"Cause I want to experience this with you. You came back almost 3 weeks ago and I feel like we haven't bonded," he smiles sadly.

"Well we haven't bonded since before my 16th birthday," I retort angrily, but grimace when I realize why we haven't really bonded.

"Sorry... let's just go inside before we lose Lucas," I whisper just as I turn around to follow Lucas.

Once we're inside, Lucas is in the front waiting for both of us.

"Did you guys fuck in the bushes or something? What took so long?" Lucas irritability says next to me. I elbow him in his rib cage hard as I'm looking around my surroundings.

The halls are a dark beige, and have red splatters on the wall - which I really am trying to believe isn't blood.

"Lucas, you and Emma check out the right side. I'll go left," Jason tells Lucas, and I glare at him.

"Wait, what about you?" I ask him.

He gives me an easy grin and looks between the both of us. "I'll be fine. Try not to kill each other okay?" Without waiting for my response, he walks away.

Damn him.

I slowly turn around and face Lucas's smirking face. "Wipe that look off your face Scott," I demand, walking around him.

"Anything for you, Princess," he says arrogantly, and I instantly wanna turn around and smack the smirk off his face myself.

♡

I lost that fuckface.

After looking into many empty rooms with him talking my ear off, he suddenly disappears.

Asshole.

I try finding my way back by walking into another hall I believe I walked through before, however I come to a stop when I realize I wasn't here before.

Just as I'm about to turn around to retrace my steps, I notice a soft light coming from under the door on the right side.

Slowly walking to the door, I reach the doorknob and slowly turn it open.

Imagine my shock when I find out what's inside.

Although the lights are off, the computers inside brighten up the room.  There is computers on top of computers, and all of that under televisions. All with what the security cameras are catching around all the local places.

I walk closer and look around the desk that's in front of the monitors. But there is only stacks of paper of the underground pipelines.

I bend my knees, and check the drawers on the right side to see if I can find anything interesting, however come to a halt when I see what's inside a black folder.

A picture of me and my mom at graduation.

A picture my dad was cut out off.

Who has this picture?

No, how do they have this picture?

I release a shaky breath and slowly put it back inside.

Why does someone have a picture of me and my mom?

"Emma! Where the fuck are you?" I hear someone whisper loudly.

I quickly shut the drawer and stand up straight just as Lucas's body fills the door frame. "Are you okay- what the hell?"

He walks next to me, and stares at the monitors with confusion. "Who the hell works here?" He whispers to himself.

"Lucas?" I touch his shoulder after a while.

His eyes shoot to mine and then to the exit. "We have to go, Jason's waiting in the car."

I look down and I see his hand twitching. "Are you okay?" I ask softly.

When he doesn't answer, I look up and see him looking at me hard, clenching his jaw in the process. "Let's go."

♡

I didn't end up telling them what happened.

So what if a random person has a picture of me and my mom from two years ago and my dad is cut out of the picture? Don't people do that now?

Once Lucas and I went inside the car, Jason started complaining about what a waste the trip was, and demanded to find something more interesting.

We're in front of my house in 20 minutes because Jason was speeding most of the time, and once he dropped me off at my house, he sped away, going God knows where.

The next day was spent with me working on my homework in each of my classes. However, right before I was going to give myself a bathroom break, I get a phone call from an unknown number.

"Hello?" I ask as I'm folding my leggings on my bed.

"Do you like scary movies?" I hear a raspy voice on the other line.

I raise my eyebrows and stop folding. "Oh, yes. But I actually love erotic movies more. You know the one where the guy gets on top of the girl and-"

"Okay, okay! I get it, you horny, horny girl," someone laughs.

I chuckle. "So who is this?"

"Come on Sunshine, I don't sound the same to your other lovers, do I?" Adam mocks hurt.

"Why hello Adam. Now, how did you get my number?" I ask once I remember I never gave it to him.

"I have my ways," he says. I can see his cockiness from here.

I sigh, and sit down on my bed. "What do you want Adam?"

"Go out with me," he asks, however I have a feeling he's demanding it as well.

"I'm good," I chuckle lightly.

"Come on! What did I deserve to get this cold shoulder? I thought we bonded?" He whines.

"Well, I was drunk Adam," I chuckle. "My side of our bond was under the influence of alcohol."

"I'm not hanging up until you agree to go out with me," he states.

"Well, I could always hang up," I look down, and smile behind my hair.

"You wouldn't dare!"

"Oh, I would."

"Well, then I would just go to your house and serenade you with a boombox and the best hits from the 1980's," he chuckles through the line.

"Oh no, what ever will I do?"

"Come on Emma," Adam says desperately.

I begin thinking for a moment - which is never good might I say - and decide to give him a chance.

"Alright, fine," I chuckle when I hear him whoop.

"Perfect. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 1.00pm. Wear something... sporty."

"Alright," I drag out.

"Okay, bye Sunshine," he says softly.

I remember something, and quickly stop him from hanging up. "What is it?" He asks.

"How would you even know where I live?" I smirk.

"I told you. I have my ways."

♡

The next morning, I wake up at 10.30am and decide to take a shower.

Although I take showers at night, I guess today could be a little different.

True to my word, I wear a black sports bra, with black shorts.

I look in the mirror feeling uncomfortable being half naked with a guy I barely know, so I grab a baggy grey t-shirt I usual wear when I push myself to go out on runs.

Just as I'm sliding my feet into my Nike's, I hear a honk coming from outside.

I grab my phone and put money behind my case. I remove all my other stuff from my key chain and go outside to lock the door.

Once that's done, I put my house key into my shoe.

Looking up, I spot Adam leaning against his car with a grin on his face. "Ready to go Sunshine?" He asks me as he's walking up to me.

I smile back to him and nod.

He goes inside the car quickly and turns it off. Once he comes back out, I finally notice the backpack he's wearing. "What's going on?" I ask slowly.

"We're going hiking," he grins as I widen my eyes.

♡

"Alright, time for a break," he states as he slides off his bag.

I gasp for breath, however I stop breathing altogether when I take in the view.

It's beautiful.

We were walking inside the forest, and felt like we've been walking for hours, but it probably was an hour.

"How did you know there was a view like this?" I ask as I see him pull out a picnic blanket from his bag.

"Found it when I moved here... I was really stressed, and as I was running in the forest, I didn't realize I'd gone to far until I reached here. It's pretty amazing," he smile and I nod in agreement.

You could see everything. The beach, houses, buildings, the university. Everything.

"Come on, sit," Adam says from behind me.

I look away from the view and notice he pulled out food for us to eat.

Chicken nuggets, sandwiches with lettuce and baloney inside, and fruit punch.

"It's  weird combination, I know. I just didn't want to bring any food that would be too cold and would taste bad," he begins to defend his reasons but I shake my head, still looking at the food.

"No, no. It's fine. It's perfect," I look up and smile at him. "Let's eat?"

He grins, nodding, and I make my way to sit next to him.

♡

"That was amazing," I express.

"Oh yeah it was. Wanna do it again?" He asks, turning his head to look at me.

"No, no. I'm tired," I fake a yawn and he chuckles.

He sits up and rummages' through his bag while I'm still lying on the grass.

"Are you too tired to eat this?"

I turn around, and to my complete and utter surprise, he's holding a box of a dozen red velvet cupcakes.

"Oh... my... God..." I couldn't close my mouth. All I could do was stare at him in admiration. No, I was staring at the cupcakes in admiration.

He laughs and opens the box. "You sure you're tired?"

"No! Give me the cupcakes fool!" I yell.

He laughs and sets it down next to me before turning around. "I think I have napkins somewhere in here..."

I rub my hands together and lick my lips excitedly. "Oh I won't need it."

Suddenly, the thing that I never thought would happen at this time, happened.

The cupcake was flown into the air, above my head.

♡

*Pats myself on the shoulder for almost falling asleep while writing, but didn't*

Okay, here it is! Chapter 9. So sorry for such a long chapter!

So... I need to tell you guys something.

I'll try my very best, but me posting on time next week is a big question mark. On Thursday (aka today), Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I have a bunch of family stuff going on.

And no that's not an excuse, but honestly, my mom will need me while she's mourning, and so will my family members.

I'll try my best to update next week, but as of now, I'm not sure if it's 100% gonna happen.

Anyways... I'll see all you lovelies in the next chapter xx
