Chapter 18

I'm woken up Friday with a slight breeze easing through the crack from my windows I left open last night.

Slightly shivering, I flutter my eyes open to look at my clock, which rests on my nightstand.

Once I see it's 6.57am, I decide to just wake up now — it's not like I'll go back to sleep anyways.

I sit up, ready to go to the bathroom to freshen up when a scream erupts from me.

In the corner of my room, I find Lucas leaning against my wall.

"What the living hell are you doing here!" I whisper loudly as I sit up higher so I'm resting back against the headboard.

"Was planning on scaring you, but I thought me just standing here would be scary enough," he smirks, and I narrow my eyes immediately at his confession.

"You really are Satan's child, aren't you?" I ask, dead serious.

Instead of answering, he sighs and takes two long strides before he's by the head of my bed.

He flops down on my left so he's resting on his stomach on my. Fucking. Bed.

My mouth opens, ready to shout out a bunch of curses when Lucas turns his head to me, letting me see some emotions he usually closes off to people. "You ready for tonight?" He asks, indicating my date with Adam.

And by date, I mean me being Sherlock Holmes and trying to find any evidence of his and Jasmine's tasks. Or even who they're working for.

Realizing I didn't respond, I clear my throat and look up to my ceiling to avoid his intense gaze.

"Yeah I guess. I haven't thought about it as much honestly." Or at least I try not to.

Lucas doesn't say anything for a while, so I look down to see his eyes still on me.

I'm so used to his icy blue gaze, that I'm completely shocked when I see a hint of worry in his eyes.

I furrow my brows slightly, but before I can ask him what's wrong, he speaks. "Jason and I are gonna be outside his house and around the corner the whole time," he says, relieving me from the constant fear I was having about tonight.

A weight feels like it's suddenly lifted off of my shoulders, and I smile softly. "Thanks Luke," I whisper, licking my lips at the sound of his nickname I used to give him that is so foreign to me now.

Lucas opens his mouth to speak when my phone by my nightstand rings.

"You better be up Emma Sullivan!" Jason shouts once I pick up on the third ring.

"Well I answered didn't I?" I raise my eyebrows even though he can't see me.

He scoffs. "Like that stopped you before? You answered when I called but apparently fell back asleep — which is totally messed up because you can't... or so you claim," he gasps dramatically and I roll my eyes.

"You're so weird Valentine. Now let me change, I'll be there soon," I reassure and he scoffs again before hanging up.

"I'm not that bad, am I?" I ask and Lucas sits up as he chuckles.

"Sure Princess, whatever helps you sleep at night."

Lucas, swings his long legs off of the bed, and stands up. He looks over his shoulder and smirks. "See you downstairs."

I wave awkwardly just as he turns back around to leave.

Lucas shuts the door behind him without looking back, and when he does, I release a loud sigh.

I need to control my hormones.

Shrugging off all my thoughts about Lucas, I quickly make my way to my bathroom.

♡

I'm dressed and ready to go 15 minutes later.

I'm wearing comfy black shorts, along with a loose baby blue t-shirt.

Once I've slipped into my black flats, I grab my phone from my desk and jog down the stairs, only to find Lucas waiting for me against the wall across the staircase.

My lips are eager to give him a smile, but I shove that feeling away.

We may not hate each other as much as we did last month, but our dislike is still prominent.

The only difference between now and then is that we have some stuff in common.

Being a witch is one of them.

Lucas raises his eyebrows and tilts his head slightly to the side, where the kitchen stands.

I furrow my brows slightly, and look to where he pointed.

My father, who's matching with his navy blue suit and khakis, in the kitchen.

He stands still when he sees me on the last couple steps. "Emma," he breathes out.

My jaw tightens, and Lucas immediately makes his way to me. "Let's go?" He asks, and I nod tensely.

"Emma we need to talk," my father shouts from behind me as I'm reaching for my bag next to the front door.

"All due respect sir, but she doesn't want to speak to you. And if I were you, I would just give her some space," Lucas says quietly behind me, and my father grunts.

"You don't know anything son. Since when are you the voice of my daughter? From the last I've heard, you both hate each other. Extremely," my father states smugly and I look down to my feet and furrow my eyebrows.

How does he know that? I've never told him.

"And although that is true sir, she hates you more now than she hates me. So I would recommend for you to stay away," Lucas says, his voice lowering during his speech.

My father doesn't say anything after that, and before I know it, Lucas is behind me. He moves his hand to my side, and he grazes my waist before opening the front door from behind me.

No words are spoken between us as we walk across my lawn to Jason's house.

"You both came into my house without the sound of you both yelling at each other? Weird," Jason laughs when we both walk into his home.

"Is Emma here, Jason?" Daniella, Jason's mom shouts from the kitchen.

Jason widens his eyes and quickly turns around so he's not only facing the kitchen, but blocking my view as well. "Nope sorry mom! She can try your cupcakes tomorrow!" Jason shouts back.

My eyes widen, and my mouth is hung open in shock. I'm about to shout back that I'm here, but Lucas comes from behind me and closes my mouth shut with his hand.

I try getting out of his grip, but he wraps his other arm around my waist. I try to wiggle out of his grasp, but it only results in me getting closer to him, and him gripping my waist tighter.

I clench my jaw before I stick my tongue out and lick his hand. "That doesn't do anything for me Princess," Lucas whispers in my ear.

I groan. "Also, I didn't wash my hands when I was in the bathroom at your house," he adds on, and my face twists in disgust as I spit inside his hand.

"Fuck, Emma!" Lucas whispers loudly as he removes his hands off of me.

My smile widens, and I spin around to find Lucas rubbing the hand I spit on, on Jason's sweater.

Jason groans from behind me. "Oh great."

Jason shouts goodbye to his mom, and shoves the both of us out of his house.

Once we're outside, I turn around to glare at him. "Why wouldn't you let your mom give me a cupcake? A cupcake, Jason. You know I love those," I pout, and Jason sighs.

"You would want seconds, then thirds, then fourths. And by the time my mom has no more cupcakes, we would have missed first period," Jason admits, and I shake my head.

"Jason freaking Valentine. You better save me 6 cupcakes. If not," I drag my finger across my throat, and Jason gulps. "I will end you in a painful way."

Jason stays silent, and looks behind me, probably giving Lucas the she's crazy look.

"Well... I was gonna tell you both, my car is at the shop because it needs an oil change so my dad's dropping me off. And his car doesn't have a backseat Em, so you're gonna have to go with Lucas," Jason sends me a pitiful look, but I know inside he's cheering at the fact of me and Lucas being in the same space without anyone else.

I look up to the sky. What did I do to deserve this life?

"Oh stop praying, Princess. My car's over there, lets go," Lucas tugs my hand and I spin around to find Lucas's jet black Porsche Boxster Spyder, one of his seven cars.

I roll my eyes, and go into his 2-seater car.

Once I'm seated in the passenger seat, Lucas mumbles a goodbye to Jason before rounding the car to sit on the drivers seat.

"Let's just not talk for the next couple minutes," Lucas states dryly, and without looking at me, he starts up the engine.

That won't be a problem.

♡

Lucas and I left his car in silence. We both walked next to one another but didn't say a word.

My hands itch to do something, so I pull out my phone and click on YouTube to find a video to watch while I wait for class to start.

When I click one of Shane Dawson's recent conspiracy videos in glee, I hear a small intake of breath from behind me.

I stop walking and turn around. Once Lucas notices I'm looking at him, he stops as well. "What?" I ask, not understanding why he's being so weird.

"You like watching conspiracy videos?" He asks, and furrow my eyebrows as I nod in agreement.

Suddenly, a large grin replaces Lucas's usual smirk, causing his prominent dimples to appear.

Oh dimples. Swoon.

Why doesn't he smile more often? Maybe I'd like him more as a person if he'd smile.

"Yeah, that shit's amazing," he admits, and I can't help but smile along with him.

Maybe we have something else in common.

"I know right! And the theories Shane comes up with is the best!"

"My favorite was the one he posted in July, with the movie theories," he says, and I nod my head in agreement.

"Me too! I also like the closet game he did with his friends," I add on and his smile broadens.

Lucas gets ready to speak until someone suddenly stands behind me. I turn to the side and see Adam giving Lucas a smile, but I know it's fake from a mile away. "Lucas, what a nice surprise," Adam tilts his head, and stands next to me so our bodies are touching.

"I wish I could say the same Lockheart," Lucas says, any proof of the smile that was on his face, has vanished.

Adam's expression changes instantly. "You know Lucas, you should probably run along now. You're not wanted, right Sunshine?" Adam looks down to me and I widen my eyes.

I shake my head and raise my hands in surrender. Don't bring me in this boys.

Once Adam realizes I'm not gonna back him up, he looks back to Lucas with a smug look on his face. "You know Lucas, I realized how sad your life is. You lost one best friend, and you're on the verge of losing the other," Adam says.

I look down to my feet. What the hell is he talking about?

"Who I'm friends with is none of your concern man. Maybe you should put a leash on Emma if you're so protective of her," Lucas spits out, and Adam wraps his arm around my waist.

"I don't need to. As long as I know she's safe from you, I know she's fine," he tilts his head and smiles.

"Safe from me? I'm gonna fucking kill you," Lucas growls, taking a step forward.

I stand in between both men, and shove them back a step. "You guys are being ridiculous. Take a pill and chill the hell out," I ground out and I feel Lucas slowly relaxing.

Adam sighs, and touches the hand I rested on his chest. "You're right, sorry Sunshine."

He tugs my arm so I lose contact of Lucas, and Adam looks away from my eyes to look at Lucas. Suddenly, a smirk grows on his face as he looks back down to me.

"I missed you Sunshine," he whispers before leaning down to connect our lips.

Do not retract. Must make him think I'm his.

I shut my eyes, slowly moving my lips along with his, and he takes that as an invitation to lick my lower lip.

I keep my mouth closed, so Adam decides to move away from my mouth, looking at my lips as he does so. "Lets go, I'll walk you to class," he whispers, and I tightly smile.

Once there is some space between us, I mutter let's go. Adam stands ahead of me, and reaches out for my hand. After he's got a hold on it, he begins walking.

I look over my shoulder and find Lucas looking at the space Adam and I were just at with his fists clenched.

Just when I can't see Lucas anymore, I look forward and watch as Adam guides me through the crowded halls.

Before I know it, we've reached the staircase and are on the second floor in front of my Calculus class.

I take deep breathes to try to calm my racing heart from all that zig-zagging. Adam turns around to face me and let's go of my hand, which I then let it rest on my beating heart. "Jeez, you need to run for track."

"Oh there you are Em, you weren't at your locker," I hear next to me, and I turn to see Jason jogging towards me.

I send him a smile. "No, I'll go there later though," I admit, and he smiles, looking to Adam.

"Hey Adam," Jason greets, and Adam nods his head in acknowledgment.

Jason takes a long step so he's next to me. He rests his hand on my shoulder. "See you in class," he smiles before entering our homeroom.

"I don't understand your friend choices," Adam says, and I get whiplash from how fast I turned to face him.

"Excuse you?" I ask. Don't break character, Emma.

I change my wording. "What do you mean? Jason's great," I defend.

"It's not just Jason. But Anna, Lauren, Jasmine, hell, even Lucas," he rolls his eyes at the thought of them, and my mouth opens in shock.

"And your friends are any better? Who the fuck are your friends anyways? My friends are my family, so next time you talk shit and say why you don't get why I'm friends with them, maybe get to know them and see how amazing they are," I rant.

"My friends are older baby. Any honestly? I don't want you guys to meet," he admits and I raise my eyebrows by how he didn't even respond to my confession on how great my friends are.

He clearly takes that action as me being pissed off, so he immediately defends himself. "No babe, I don't mean that I'm embarrassed of you—"

I decide to interrupt him to get this conversation over with. "Oh but clearly you are. You know what? This conversation is over, Adam. Call me when you're not embarrassed to introduce me to someone you actually like. If you even like anyone," I send him a believable glare before turning on my heels.

As I'm walking inside my class, I hear him call out my name, and I grin.

Ah, maybe I should be an actor?

♡

I'm looking around our large cafeteria during lunch when I'm interrupted by Anna. "What's going on Em? Who you looking for?" She asks, looking around the cafeteria as well.

I clear my throat and pay attention to the food on my tray. "Uh, just looking for Jason. Needed to talk to him about something."

Lies. More like looking for Lucas to watch The Scariest Snapchat's Ever, which Shane posted a couple days ago.

Quickly deciding to change the topic, I turn to Lauren. "How's everything going with Dylan? Have you both spoken yet?" I ask, and Lauren just groans.

"No that piece of shit still hasn't said anything. Maybe he doesn't deserve my awesomeness. I should—"

"Lauren Camila Martinez!" Someone shouts on the top of their lungs, causing everyone in the cafeteria to quiet down.

I look around the large space and find Dylan on top of a table with a potted cactus in his hand. A grin immediately is stretched across Anna and I's face.

Lauren simply widens her eyes and sinks in her seat.

"I'm sorry for being a complete douche, and making you doubt the way I feel for you," he hops off the table takes slow, but dominating steps towards our table.

"I'm so sorry, baby. I hope you can forgive me," he frowns, and I just now realize that this is the first thing Dylan Parker has done publicly that wasn't a prank. Or that wasn't remotely funny.

This was the first time he was being sincere. In public at least.

Lauren realizes the big step he's taking, and without even controlling it, her lip tips up in a smile. "You're so stupid, Parker."

Dylan grins and lifts her up before placing a long kiss on her lips.

Everyone cheers for them. Including Anna and I.

♡

Chemistry was hectic.

For once, our teacher partnered Lucas and I together, and I actually didn't want to convince my teacher to move me.

Instead, we both sped through our assignment at ease and watched one of Shane's recent videos once we've finished.

For someone who is really arrogant, Lucas is extremely smart in Chemistry.

Does he still want to be a vet? I wonder, remembering all those times he helped save an animal.

When we were 7 years old, a dog was trapped in the fence, and hurt its leg. Lucas not only set him free, but let the dog he named Marx stay with him for a month.

He wanted to keep him of course, but when his father found out he and his mom were keeping Marx a secret from him, he threw the dog to the pound.

Although I wasn't friends with him when we were 11 years old, I heard from Jason that a bird hit its wing against a tree branch hard, causing it to fall down to the ground on full force. Lucas bandaged the wing up and nursed it back to health.

When Brandon walked into our class however, I left all my thoughts and memories from the past and focused my attention to Lucas.

Who looked like he was going to fly across the room and kill him.

Just before Lucas stood up, I rested my hand on his knee and hoped if he looked deep into my eyes, he would understand I don't want a scene to occur.

He thankfully did, and left Brandon alone. For now, at least.

Now, a couple hours later after school finished, I'm resting on my bed with my cellphone in my hand, re-reading Adam's apology.

Adam: I'm sorry Sunshine. I didn't mean it the wrong way, I want you to meet them soon. I hope we're still on for tonight.

I rolled my eyes, and texted back that we were.

When I look at the ticking clock on my nightstand, I hop out of bed when I realize I have to be at his house in 40 minutes.

I thank God I bought all the ingredients after school with Jason.

I quickly changed into a black romper with a lace trim, and let my hair fall down out of it's bun and into natural curls.

Lucas thankfully let me take his car for the night — seeing as though Jason's car was at the shop — and with the help of Jason, they both helped me pack the groceries in the trunk.

In less than 10 minutes, I'm outside of Adam's bungalow.

I take the three bags to the front of the house, and look over my shoulder to see one of Lucas's other cars by the end of the street.

I look forward and hide my smile.

I knock on Adam's large wooden door, and in five seconds, the door is wide open, revealing Adam, who's in a grey buttoned up shirt and dark jeans.

He smiles when he sees me, and immediately takes the bags out of my hands. "You look beautiful Emma," he admits and I blush.

"Thanks," I mumble, looking around the house to find anything weird.

Adam shuts the door once I've taken a step inside, and I realize that his bright white walls and furniture has not only no color, but no picture frames as well.

"Come on baby, let's get cooking," Adam shouts from his kitchen, which is also, white.

♡

Thank God I brought ingredients before getting here because the only thing his fridge contained was alcohol.

I used the ingredients I purchased to make chicken thighs with asparagus stuffed inside of them. Along side with Adam's favorite salad he previously mentioned to me.

I also purchased some chocolate cake for dessert.

We had small conversations while we were eating, but towards the end, we ate in silence.

And in that silence, I came up with my plan.

"That was amazing Sunshine. Now not only can you brighten my day, but you can cook one hell of a meal," he grins once we've both finished our food.

I take a bow dramatically. "Thank you."

He smiles and clears his throat. "So, I'll wash the dishes as a thank you for making this meal, and then we can bring out the cake. Sounds good?" He asks and I nod, smiling.

We both set the plates we've used next to the sink, and I look around the house. "Hey Adam, can I use the bathroom?" I ask as he turns on the faucet.

"Yeah just go down that hall, and it's gonna be the first door on your left," he points to where I should go and I mouth a thank you before leaving him with the dishes.

There is three doors on the left and two doors on the right when I've entered the long hall. I decide to start on the left and go from there.

So the first door on the left is the bathroom, so maybe the door across from it....

Locked.

I check the other door, which is also locked, and I furrow my eyebrows.

What the hell are in those rooms?

I'll check them out later. Now, I need to find his room.

I go to the right side and open the farthest door from the staircase.

Hallelujah! I shout in my head when the door creaks open.

Slowly opening the door, I take in Adam's navy blue room.

The bed's unmade, and the desk next to it is untamed with sheets.

Above the desk is a window, which reminds me to text the boys.

Emma: In his room, I'll let you know if I find anything.

Their responses come seconds later.

Jason: Stay safe Em.

Lucas: If you get caught, use your powers and take the bitch down.

I can't help but smile and their different responses.

When I hear Adam whistling from the kitchen, I'm shove my thoughts aside and make my way to his dark wood nightstand to see if I can find anything.

Once nothing is revealed inside, I slowly close it shut and make my way to his desk.

I ruffle through everything on his desk, but it all seems to be school work.

Under the desk on the right side, instead of the leg supporting it, there's three drawers. The first two are small, however the bottom drawer is almost three times the size as one of them.

One by one, I open each one. For the first two, all that it held was some of his phone bills, and a photo of a women and man standing next to each other, with what seems to be their 5 year old child on the mans shoulders.

They all have the biggest smiles on their faces.

I smile sadly, and gently put it back to its original place.

Once the second drawer is shut, I try opening the bottom drawer but it's sealed shut. I furrow my eyebrows and see that on the side, there is a lock that needs to have a key to unlock it.

Keys are for losers.

I raise my hand above the lock, and in seconds the last drawer is opened. Only to reveal 3 bouncy balls, a glasses case, and a baseball hat.

What the hell? Why is this even locked?

I lean back and internally groan. When my focus is back on the drawer, I realize that the outside of the drawer is much bigger than the inside.

My eyes widen and I quickly shove my hand inside to see if I can find a way to open the bottom of the drawer like in the movies.

When I feel a small string leading to under the base, I grin.

I shove all the objects on the other side, and pull the string, which pops up to reveal a large file folder.

I furrow my eyebrows and slowly take it out of its hiding spot.

Once it's fully out and on my lap, I see something else peaking out of the hidden spot.

My hands are back inside immediately, and without having to look, I pull out a gun.

Taking a sharp intake of breath, I check the magazine and the chamber, and see that the gun is fully loaded. Holy shit.

I put the gun inside the drawer slowly, and look down to the file that seems to be almost 10 inches wide of information.

I hesitantly open it, and the first thing I see is a photo of me and my mom.

I rub my eyes with one hand, and use the other to pick up the photo.

My mom and I stand next to each other, however Jessica, and my father, who were standing next to the both of us on either side is cut out. Someone cut them out. But why?

I put the photo down and look through some of the things on top of the large pile.

It has my whole life in this goddamn file, I've concluded once I've looked through some of the pages.

Everyone I know, my likes and dislikes, my school marks since JK, my addresses, my birth certificate. Everything.

Adam knew all about me before he even met me.

"I really wish you didn't have to see that, Emma."

Thursday, May 24th 2018 @ 6.00pm.

That is the next time I will post He's No Good.

I know that's less than 3 weeks until I post, but for the next two months I have so much work to be done before exams.

Trust me, the last thing I want to do is work, but I gotta get good grades, you know?

I will be writing notes hopefully for my chapters, but I won't have time to be active and write.

Maybe I will squeeze in some writing in between?

Ah I'll figure it out.

But anyways! I want to thank you for reading this chapter!

I didn't want to leave you with too big of a cliffhanger, but whoops?

I also didn't mean to write one of the longest chapters I've written so far, but it's okay. My parting gift to you :)

Thank you again for reading lovelies! I'll see you on the 24th xx
