Chapter 3

After that, Jason left and I decided to bake some cookies.

My weekend resorted in Lauren and Anna coming over on Saturday, which ended up with them sleeping over. On Sunday, they both left at 12, and I decided to go to the gym.

My dad finally made his appearance on Saturday night, claiming he came home Friday night but I was asleep.

Which I completely doubt because I stayed up until 2.00 am watching a bunch of movies.

Next thing I know, it's Monday morning. And I over slept. Again.

Running downstairs, I start heading towards the kitchen and see a glass of orange juice on my island, with a note beside it.

Left early for work, see you tonight - Dad

I clench my jaw, and crumble up the paper. Moments like these, make me feel like I lost both parents, not just one.

Tossing it in the garbage, I grab a water bottle and put it inside my Jansport bag. Looking in the mirror, I check my appearance, which contains grey sweats and a white t-shirt. I shrug, and put my messy curly hair in a bun on top of my head.

I swing my bag on, and head outside. If I leave now I could get there with a couple minutes to spare.

As I shut the door to my house, Jason exits his. Once he looks up, his eyes lighten slightly and waves.

I'm about to awkwardly wave back until I see his door open again. Of course.

Lucas emerges from the house, and I immediately glare at him. As he can sense my eyes on him, he turns my way and smirks.

"Princess is out finally out of her castle I presume?" He mocks.

He's been calling me princess since he deemed that I wasn't a good enough friend for him. Of course he means it offensively, being called a princess is like being called a brat. Which I'm not.

I give him a tight smile, "Apparently so, but your balls still haven't dropped, have they?"

His smirks is swiped off his face, and the glare I'm so used to returns, "Oh trust me babe, they've dropped," he gives me a mocking grin and continues, "why do you always bring my balls and dick in our conversations princess, want to explore?"

I clench my jaw and point my finger at him, "You are unbelievable you know that right? Why do you always have to be an ass? It's like you're incapable of doing anything nice."

He sneers at me, "Well you aren't an angel either, Emma." I stare at him at shock, and finally notice that we barely have any space between us. When did we move closer?

"Guys! You have to stop arguing. You're like a married couple, but instead of the makeup sex, you just have more arguments," Jason says as he walks up to us.

Once he reaches us, he pushes Lucas back and glares at him, "Stop starting with her Luke. If you're annoyed by her so much, why do you start all the arguments?"

Lucas has no words, and responses by glaring at Jason. I tilt my head to the side, and raise my eyebrows. He rolls his eyes, "You're not all innocent in this," and he walks away.

Jason scratches his neck, and I notice a flush on his face, "I would ask you if you wanted a ride, but considering the scene that just happened..."

I shake my head, "No. I'd rather get run over by multiple vehicles, than get in a car with him," I say the last word with much disgust.

He nods his head slowly, an understanding smile coming out, "I get it. I'll, uh- see you later?"

I tighten my mouth and nod, "Okay. see you in class."

At that, he walks to his car, and I see him arguing with Lucas as he pulls out of his driveway.

I shake my head and begin making my way to school.

♡

As I'm walking into school I take out one earbud, and look around the school. I hear a bunch of conversations, but one that stands out is a huge group of girls in the far right corner, "Oh my God, he's coming this way. Do you think Lucas likes straight hair or curly hair?" She says and she's smoothing her pin straight hair.

Her dark, curly haired friend smirks, and touches her hair, "He likes curly hair. We- we fooled around two weeks ago at Ashley's back to school party, and he kept on grabbing my hair." She blushes at her statement.

Jeez, why do they even care?

Zoning out of their conversation, I hear another one, of course relating to Lucas and his abs, "I hear he works out for 3 hours a day. I saw him stretch once, and his shirt went up, and oh my God. His v- line. His abs. I swoon to this day."

I roll my eyes and decided to plug in my headphone in again. Why are girls in this school so in love with him? They have more testosterone then boys.

Once I get to my locker, I spot Lauren and Anna on the other side of my locker. Lauren's back is to me so I decide to scare her.

I put my index finger to my lips, and tell Anna to be quiet. She grins, and continues talking about different types of chocolate.

I smile, and grab Lauren's shoulder, jumping up.

She yells, and turns around, immediately hitting my arm.

I stare wide eyed at her, and begin laughing, "Shut up! You know I hate getting scared."

I raise my hands up in surrender, reversing my steps until I'm near my locker, "Sorry! Sorry," I smirk at her before continuing, "But you yelled so high pitch it was so funny."

She clenches her jaw and hits my shoulder again, "Shut it!"

I laugh, and put in my combination, "Okay, okay!"

Anna smiles, and skips towards us and continues her conversation about how milk chocolate is better than dark chocolate.

She finally finishes her story when we get into class, but she only stopped because Mrs. Carlton called her out on her speaking.

As I sit down at my seat, I see the girl who was previously sitting beside me, isn't anymore. I furrow my eyebrows and look around. Where is she?

The bell rings, and the last couple students enter before an unfamiliar blonde girl enters.

The teacher smiles and tells her to come up.

"Everyone, this is Jasmine... Rider was it?" The girl she introduced as Jasmine nods, Mrs. Carlton nods before continuing, "She's a couple of days behind, so any volunteers to catch her up?"

I look around the class and spot a couple of guys with nasty grins on their faces, raise there hands. Deciding to be nice, I raise my hand, "Great! Jasmine, sit beside your guide, and work helper, Emma."

Jasmine gives me a friendly smile, and walks to the seat on my left, I smile, and introduce myself, "So why are you coming a week into school?" I ask.

As Jasmine's unpacking her stuff she shrugs, "Parent's wanted to keep me to themselves for another week and decided to book a last minute trip."

I smile sadly, "Sounds really nice- spending time with your family I mean."

She nods, and gives me small smile "It is. They work a lot so they try to be with me as much as possible."

"Girls! Quiet!" Mrs. Carlton says over her shoulder. I zip up my lips in imitation and throw the key away. Jasmine quietly chuckles, and I whisper, "If you want, you can join me and my friends for lunch."

Jasmine eagerly nods, "Oh yeah, thanks for offering. I was really scared I was gonna reenact the scene on Mean Girls where I eat in the bathroom stall... And probably end up crying."

I laugh, and shake my head, "Well you're safe from that for now."

♡

I guide Jasmine to her second period before going to English. Afterwords, Lauren and I walk to her class to pick her up.

Once we meet with Anna, we grab our food and take our seats. Finishing my food, I look at my phone and see there's about 30 minute left of lunch.

Looking up, I wait for Lauren to finish speak, "Guys, I'm gonna show Jasmine around before next period. Okay?" They both nod, and I add, "Anne, if I don't have a chance to meet you before class I'll see you there." She responds with an okay and waves goodbye, Lauren following her lead.

Jasmine and I get our stuff and exit the cafeteria, "So right when you exit, we have the trophies here. As you can tell, our school's good at swimming."

She nods, raising her eyebrows, clearly impressed.

As I'm talking about the school, she quickly interrupts me, "I'm sorry, but how do you know all of this? I thought you said this was your first year too?"

I nod, a grin spreading on my face, "Right? It's been almost a week since I've been here and she chose me. But it's okay. I know my stuff because my sister went here and I always went with my mom and her to her parent-teacher meetings. Not to mention I came here in grade 8 for the tour," she nods, and I quickly add, "Oh, forgot to mention that I used to live here, but moved... Then moved back obviously."

She laughs and nods, "I figured."

Just then, I here a low whistle coming from behind us. Pausing, I turn my body around and see Lucas eyeing Jasmine.

Jasmine turns around just then and widens her eyes.

Lucas walks up until he's in front of her and puts his right hand on the locker beside her stretching himself, "What's your name gorgeous?"

She blinks repeatedly, before looking away, "Uh- Jasmine."

He smirks and looks my way, "Jasmine, like the princess, but you're more ho-beautiful."

I widen my eyes, and immediately begin doing an eye workout, consisting in me rolling my eyes 1,000 times.

She looks down, and I see a blush forming through the wall of blonde hair she just made. I shake my head, not believing she's actually falling for all of this.

I shake my head, "You can never keep it in your pants can you? She's been here half a day and you already can't help yourself?" chuckling, I continue, "I was right, how much HIV's do you have now anyway?"

He didn't answer so I turned to Jasmine, "I'm sure he'll want to show you the way, but if he wants to leave you-he's used to doing that- you know your way around."

She waves, and I walk in the other direction. A couple seconds afterwards, I begin hearing heavy foot steps behind me, "Emma!" I turn around and raise my eyebrows.

He stops in front of me and glares at me, "What the hell is your problem?"

I widen my eyes, "My problem? Are you serious? You are the biggest man whore I've ever met! You're sleeping with random girls, flirting with people you just met."

Shaking my head is disappointment, I stare up at him in disgust, "What happened to you?"

A nasty look spreads across his face, "Well at least I'm not a fucking prude. You're so prideful, stubborn, and- and, oblivious. A guy could, and would not ever be interested in you. If someone was, I would be seriously worried for their mental health."

I stare at him at shock, and push back the tears threatening to leave my eyes. I honestly thought time-to-time I would be alone, but hearing it from someone else?

I clench my jaw, and a tear betrays me as it streams down my face slowly. Pulling back my hand, I begin to aim to slap Lucas across the face until he catches my hand mid-air.

He pulls me closer to him and his eyes follow the tear. Some sort of emotion is behind those beautiful blue eyes I used to love so much, but it quickly disappears.

He looks down to my lips, and that's when reality comes crashing down.

No. I take my hand out of his grip, and look at him one last time before walking away. Once I've turned the corner, I hear a loud slam on the lockers, and I stop walking for a second.

I look down and wipe my face, removing all of the evidence of Lucas's success from getting to me.

Turns out Jasmine is in my Fitness class too, but I wasn't in the greatest mood to talk. Thankfully she and Anna got along good, so they had each other to keep company while I was too busy over thinking things as usual.

Once I got to Chemistry, I dropped my bag on the floor a sat down at my seat. I think my face has a permanent frown plastered because I can't seem to remove it.

As my teachers talking about our next lesson, I look outside the window and spot Lucas's eyes on me. I stare at him for a second, and am the first to look away at our staring battle.

The bell rang shortly after and I grabbed my stuff and left. Going to my locker, I picked up my math textbook, and started heading the the stairwell.

When I opened the door, there wasn't any students to be found. As I'm walking down the first couple steps, the doors below the second level open.

"She's infuriating!" A familiar voice yells.

Lucas.

"You're the one who's picking fights Lucas," Jason retorts. Yes! Thank you for pointing out the obvious to him.

I can just imagine him shooting glares at Jason, "Well someone has to push the little princess off her throne."

Jason, being the defender he is, retaliates, "You have to let whatever you have with her go. She's not starting with you. Plus we're supposed to be keeping our distance, remember?"

Lucas then scoffs, "Oh please, don't get me started on the whole distance thing. I know you're talking to her Jason. Well trying to. Seems like our little princess is stubborn to forgive you."

"I'm trying to see if she knows, Lucas!" Jason shouts.

Knows? Knows what?
