Chapter 5
Just like Rachel Green, I'm a pushover.
Well on the brink of being one anyway.
On Thursday, Anna begged and begged me to come with her to go shopping, but I believe I held my own before I cracked.
She was making me feel really bad.
Lauren threatening to take my Kindle and smash it into pieces with a 10 pound sledge hammer did not change my decision at all.
So today, the day before the party, I'm gonna go shopping and not even shop for myself.
Fun.
Once I've brushed my teeth, I walk over to my dresser and pull out a pair of black leggings and a light blue t-shirt.
I pull on the elastic that kept my hair in a tight bun, resulting in my hair cascading down my shoulders.
My hair seems to look nice today, so I decide to just let it down for the day.
Plus, I'm too lazy to do anything with it.
Checking my clock, I realize I'm a couple of minutes early before my dad begins to call me down.
At that thought, I go down the stairs. Halfway down, I pause when I spot my dad taking out the orange juice from the fridge.
Just as he's finished pouring it into a glass, I'm about to continue walking until I see him pull something out of his suit pocket.
Looking more closely, I realize it's a clear round glass bottle, with a dropper and clear liquid inside.
He unscrews the cap, and drops exactly 3 drops inside of the orange juice. Once it's closed, he puts it back in his pocket, and begins stirring the cup with a spoon.
A million questions starts pooling in.
Has he been putting something in my drink this whole time?
What's in the bottle?
How long has he been doing this?
"Emma! You up yet?" My dad shouts once he's finished preparing my orange juice. Or whatever it is now.
Clenching my jaw, I stomp downstairs, ready to confront him. What could that thing possibly be?
Once I'm near the kitchen, the doorbell rings, stopping my tracks. I look between my dad, who's now sitting at the table, reading on his phone and the door.
Deciding on not to keep the person behind the door waiting, I walk up to open it. I'll confront my dad later.
To my surprise, Lauren's on my front porch with a huge grin on her face. "Let's go hoe! I'm driving today!"
I'm about to decline, because last time I was in a moving vehicle with my dear friend, she almost hit a women with a baby. But considering how I don't want to speak to my dad about his actions, or drink what has known to be my favorite drink. I decide to accept her offer.
Trying to conceal my nervousness, I slowly nod and smile. "Okay, let me just grab my bag."
Looking back into the kitchen, I notice my dad is still engrossed by whatever he's doing on his phone.
I quickly put on my black toms, and grab my school bag from the corner.
"Bye Dad!" I shout just before I close the door.
I wish I could see the shocked look on his face.
Once I'm seated in the passenger seat of Lauren's navy blue 2011 Lexus ES 350, I see my house door swing open, revealing my dad's shocked expression.
He yells my name just as Lauren reverse out of the driveway, hitting the trashcan across the street in the process.
I exhale in relief. I was saved by the bell... Literally.
Confronting him now would have been a risky move. He could have lied, and I could have believed it.
Thank God Lauren came when she did.
I need to try getting that bottle. Try to see if I can figure out whatever it is.
And whatever it's meant to do to me.
â¡
Friday escalated the same as every other day.
Jason tries to make conversation with me instead of reviewing our homework in the group Mrs. Carlton put us in.
Lauren complains about Dylan and his fuckboy ways during lunch, and Lucas is being unnecessary as usual during last period.
Well, if possible, more unnecessary.
Finally, the last bell of the day rings, dismissing the class.
As I'm packing up, I check around the room, only to see more than half of the class left.
"See you tomorrow, Princess," I hear someone whisper behind me. I quietly gasp, and turn around, only to see Lucas wave my way with a smirk on his face. As usual.
Anna, Lauren, Jasmine and I decide to meet at the steps in front of the school, so I decide to drop by my locker before going there.
Once I've finished grabbing my Calculus textbook, I go to the front entrance, and immediately spot Anna in the crowd.
I grin and run up to her. I place both of my hands on her shoulders and jump up.
"Attacker!" She shouts as she spins around, pepper stray in hand, and ready to be used.
I cover my face in fear. "No, Anna! It's me!"
I peak through my fingers, and see her blush in embarrassment. "Sorry Emmy. My dad's gave this to me a couple days ago and made me watch some pretty scary movies about girls being taken. I'm scarred. But what's up!?"
I look at her wide eyed. He dad's honestly really scary. Her mom is the nicest person in the world, but Anna's dad is those stereotypical dad's who will literally beat up anyone who hurts her.
First introductions were made when I was five, and I'm still scared of him.
Getting out of my thoughts, I look up at her and grin. "Sounds like him. Where's Jasmine and Lauren?"
"They left. I told Lauren I'd drive you because I know how you feel about her driving."
"Oh thank goodness. After this morning, I don't wanna go in a car with her for a while," I exhale in relief.
Let's just say, hopefully that dog crossing the street still has four legs.
When we both get in her car, I call Lauren and she tells us she's parked outside my house demanding me to open the door and give her food.
I roll my eyes and tell her that we'll be there in less than five minutes.
â¡
True to my words, we arrive in three minutes.
When Anna and I get out of the car, a very jumpy Lauren exits hers, followed by a giggling Jasmine.
Once I've unlocked the door, Lauren pushes me aside and raids my fridge.
Anna and I both laugh as we're walking in the kitchen. I stop mid-laugh just as I see Lauren pull out my stash of dry beef salami.
No. No, no no.
I snatch it out of her hand and hold it against my chest as I glare at her.
"Emma. Give me. The. Salami." Lauren demands.
"Nope. Not happening Laur. You eat my food, but you're not eating this."
Her eyebrows raise at my statement, a smirk starting to form on her lips. "We'll see about that, won't we?"
Just before I can register, she grabs it from my hand and flees out the room.
I stand at my spot in shock as Anna and Jasmine laugh. I quickly focus myself back on the topic in hand.
Getting my salami back.
I enter the living room and see Lauren about to open the package.
That's when I fly.
Not really, but I dive onto the couch and grab the bag.
â¡
Lauren and I spend the next 10 minutes wrestling until Anna intervenes. She snatches it out of our hands and throws it to Jasmine.
Who then opens up the package and puts a couple on the plate for Lauren to munch on.
Lauren and I refuse to make eye contact for the remainder of the time at my house.
Why Me? Because of embarrassment. Her? Probably trying to not kill me.
Once we've all munched on something, we leave our school bags at my house, and leave.
Just as I'm locking the door, I began to hear a chorus of wolf whistles behind me.
Rolling my eyes at my friends behavior, I turn around giving them a playful glare.
Only to stare at the back of their heads.
Looking to the house next to mine, I spot thing one and thing two. Oh, and thing three as it seems.
I walk to my group of friends and stand beside Jasmine. Them, thinking it's their queue to attack, walk up towards us.
Dylan smirks as he walks over to Lauren while she's rolling her eyes.
Jason looks uncomfortable as always, however walks up to Anna.
And Lucas? He goes up to Jasmine with a mischievous smirk on his lips. Once they're all at their target, I slowly back away.
I stop mid step when I see Jasmine giving Lucas a glare. He simply rolls his eyes, and faces his direction to me. Lucky me.
He strides over to me, with the same smirk on his lips. And I instantly feel like he's the predator, and I'm his prey.
He's right in front of me in a matter of seconds, leaving only half a meter of space between us.
I hesitantly take two steps back, and he tilts his head to the right slightly.
"How was your day, Princess? Enjoyed the present I left in your locker?" The cocksucker asks me.
I give him a murderous glare, and tightly smile. "Yeah I really appreciated your gift, Lucas. Pussy's Guide on How to Get Laid. Nice. Asshole," I whisper that last part, however by the look on his face, he heard me.
"You'll need all the help you can get," he sneers. Oh little does he know.
I give him an innocent smile, and cross my arms over my chest. "If that's what you believe, then alright!"
I turn my focus to Anna, Lauren and Jasmine. Lauren seems to be on the brink of killing Dylan, but Anna and Jasmine are having a conversation with Jason.
I roll my eyes and look back at Lucas.
He smiles at me, and lifts up his right hand. For a split second, I believe he's going to hit me, but even he isn't capable of doing that.
However, he brings it over to a loose strand of my hair and tucks it behind my ear. I stare at him with caution as he leans down, bringing his mouth near my ear.
"Are those goosebumps I see? Pathetic."
I clench my teeth and push him away. I seemed to have pushed him hard because he goes back two steps and almost trips.
He's about to take another step forward, but I punch his shoulder before he gets a centimeter closer to me.
I walk towards the girls, and grab onto Lauren and Anna's hand. I push them forward, and Jasmine follows behind.
Once we're all seated in Anna's car, I open the backseat window, and give them an innocent smile until my gaze connects with Lucas.
Before I have a chance to stop myself, I give Lucas my middle finger. I then kiss the tip of the finger, and fling it towards him.
Just as Anna puts the car into drive, I see Lucas pretend to catch it, and hold to against his heart.
Then he begins to travel down until his hand is in front of his dick and does the action of a hand job.
I clench my teeth and close the window.
The whole ride to the mall, I think of ways of how to kill that blue-eyed asshole.
â¡
A couple of minutes later, we reach our local mall.
After going into a handful of stores, Anna finally decided on buying a grey skater dress, and Jasmine bought a navy blue cocktail dress.
A little too fancy for a house party in my opinion, but if she wants to dress up, who's to stop her?
Both Lauren and I agree to shop in our own closets. I'd rather not buy an outfit I'll only wear once. Plus, dresses aren't my thing anymore.
"No you're gonna buy something!" Anna yells at Lauren, as I'm trying to cover up my laugh.
"But I don't wanna!" Lauren whines. Which is the exact moment a snort comes out from me.
Lauren glares at me, and points an accusing finger at me. "What about her? She's not buying anything either!"
"Well... Because I'm too lazy to annoy both of you. And annoying you is so much more entertaining," Anna giggles.
Lauren rolls her eyes, and looks at a store nearby. "Fine. But I'm buying a skirt. I'm not buying a dress. That's final."
Anna claps, and drags Lauren to the store to purchase a black skater skirt.
10 minutes later, we all leave the mall and head back to my place so Lauren can pick up her car.
"Bye guys!" I shout as Anna and Lauren are reversing out of my driveway.
Jasmine sticks her head out of Lauren's passenger side window and waves.
Anna rolls down her window. "You better decide what you're wearing tomorrow before I come over, or I'll make you wear a dress," and then she's off.
Once I can't see both of their cars, I run inside and pick what I'm gonna wear before Anna demands me into wearing a dress.
â¡
I woke up the next day around 12.00pm and saw a post-it note on my mirror.
Remember to drink your orange juice sweetie!
Gonna be home late tonight, don't wait up.
- Dad
I crumple up the paper and throw it in the trash.
Once I'm in my favorite navy blue sweats, and grey t-shirt, I head down stairs and go into the kitchen, only to see the infamous glass of orange juice.
I lift up the glass and take a sniff of it. Smells like orange juice.
I push it back on the counter, and groan. How am I gonna figure out what the liquid is?
Checking the time on the stove, I see it's only 25 after 1.00pm.
Shrugging my shoulders, I decide to make hot chocolate with mini marshmallows.
Walking over the the living room, I set it down on the table and I agree to just watch something on Netflix.
â¡
Three episodes later of The Vampire Diaries, and many tissues later, the doorbell rings.
I clean my nose one more time, and throw out all of the tissues that have been collected on the table.
Shuffling to the door, I open it only to see an annoyed Anna, and a familiar looking guy.
Wait that's not any guy... That's Anna's brother.
Although they don't have many similarities, as they take on both of their looks from each of their parents, they both have their mom's green eyes.
Jacob's piercing green eyes, dark hair, and sharp jaw could make any girl swoon.
However, Anna seems to want to stick a finger down her throat at the thought of it.
Jacob stares at me, slowly going down my body until his eyes meet mine once again.
"I didn't believe you were back. Had to see if my dear little sis was being honest about her where-a-bouts," he says as he noogies her.
She crunches up her nose and shoves him away. "Okay, you saw your crush. Leave now. Or I'm gonna tell mom you were whoring yourself out. Again."
I widen my eyes at Anna's tone. She's the most innocent, and pure out of all of us.
Her brother must really bring the worst out of her.
"And I'll tell dad you finished his frosted flakes," he retorts.
"Ugh, you're unbelievable!" Finishing that, she enters my house, and slams the door on his face.
"Hey Emma, you know my number. Call me if my psychotic sister wears you out," he shouts from the other side of the door.
I suppress a chuckle that's threatening to escape and Anna begins banging her head on the wall beside the door.
Once I'm chuckled out, I place my hand on her shoulder and turn her around. "Hey are you okay Anne?"
She rubs her forehead, a small pout forming on her lips. "Jacob. H-he sleep with this girl. On my bed. My bed Emma! I had to wash my sheets three times to remove the stains. And the worst part? I was napping on the couch downstairs while he was doing it! He's impossible!"
I don't know whether to give her my support to kill him, or to laugh again.
I go with Option A.
Reaching up to her, I grab both of her shoulders and hug her. "Don't worry Anna, he'll grow out of his phase... One day."
After a couple of seconds, she exhales and pushes me away slightly, giving me a small smile. "You're right. My dad got over it, so will he."
She then swings a black hanging garment bag so it's resting over her shoulder. How did I not notice that until now...
"Let me put this in your room, and start preparing for the party!" She shouts excitedly as she runs up the stairs.
â¡
At five on the dot, I hear non-stop knocking on my front door.
Rushing downstairs, I swing the door open, only to see Jasmine, fear written all over her face.
"You were right. H-her driving - how? How did she get her license? I should have listened to you. Oh God," she rambles.
Just then, Lauren runs up to my front porch, clearly out of breath. "I'm sorry! But it's not all my fault. He wasn't supposed to cross the street!"
"It was his right of way, Lauren!" Jasmine shouts. She shakes her head in disbelief, and walks upstairs. "I need alcohol," I hear her mumble.
I look back at Lauren, and give her a disappointed look. "You really need to practice more."
I grab her hand and push her inside, then I shut the door. "Let's go. Anna's already getting ready."
"Oh no," Lauren groans.
"Oh yes, " I begin to laugh and I drag her up the stairs.
â¡
We finish getting ready right at 8.00pm.
Anna's wearing the dress she purchased yesterday with grey toms, with minimal makeup. Jasmine is wearing her navy blue dress, and black suede lace-up heels. But she's wearing a bunch of makeup, which I can't name half of.
Lauren is wearing her black skater skirt, and dark grey t-shirt, which is tucked in the skirt. Matching it off with some black combat boots.
Me, however? I'm wearing a white plain t-shirt, with lace on the bottom, and black leggings. Finishing it off with lace-up booties.
I put on some mascara and lip balm with some color, and Lauren doesn't have any makeup on at all.
Finally in the hair department, Anna curled her hair, and Jasmine straightened hers. Lauren and I kept it natural.
Her, because she claims she's not impressing anyone. Me? I'm lazy.
I think I've come to the point in my life where laziness takes over everything.
"Guys, you ready?" Anna asks in front of my bedroom door entrance.
Lauren, Jasmine and I look at each other than stare at Anna, slowly nodding our heads.
Why do I feel nervous about tonight?
Anna grins, and grabs my hand. "Okay, let's go."
â¡
Almost 3.00am, and my flight to go back home is tomorrow.
I feel dead inside.
However, I made a promise, and I intend to keep it!
By the way, I think next week will be the last chapter for two weeks because I'm going back to school soon so I have to prepare all of my assignments.
Please understand!
See you in the next chapter xx
