Our first anniversary
Was absolutely gorgeous--
Of course it was,
Every day is gorgeous
With you.
But while that dinner was wonderful,
I've always remembered
The next few days
Better.
Because that was the time in which
We had our first fight.
Not our biggest, but
Most important.
That was when we learned how to
Talk about any problems
To fix what we could and
Understand what we couldn't.
I was so worried I would lose you
Those four days
And when we saw each other again
We both apologized
At the same time
And laughed,
Like we always did.
I told you I loved you and
You told me you loved me and
We talked for hours
And hours
And hours
And learned how to solve fights.
We've had bigger fights since
But shorter
And less hurtful.
And we've always made up after
And said
"I love you."
