Ji Fu’s suggestion came as a surprise to Bai Ye. The beautiful devil she met in the forest appeared in her mind. The man must have known she would end up participating in the trials.

“This way, there’ll be less danger and you’ll have a chance to interact with the Dark Spiritual Energy. There is one problem, you’re not of age to enter The Erudition Trials,” Ji Fu commented.

According to the rules, the participant had to be 16 to 25 years old. Bai Ye was one year shy of the qualification.

Bai Ye shook her head to get rid of the silhouette of the man in her mind. With a calm expression on her face, she asked, “How do we go about that?” She was not too worried as she had the jade participation badge.

Ji Fu did not know Bai Ye had a participation badge. He exhaled deeply then said, “I’ll take you to the Examination Board. In exchange for a favor, they should be willing to overlook a small detail like this.”

“Really?” Bai Ye was interested in any alternative option. She did not want to rely on the man’s gift, especially after the little furball’s advice.

Ji Fu calculated the days and said, “Don’t you worry. Go to bed, we’ll set out first light tomorrow. If I remember right, the trials begin in half a month. The registration will close three days before the start of the trials, so we have another 12 days to prepare.”

Bai Ye frowned at the news. She would have preferred to leave the village after her grandfather’s burial.

“Your grandpa would not mind. Grandpa Qin will ensure the procession goes smoothly,” Ji Fu reassured Bai Ye. He knew she was a filial child.

Bai Ye nodded and bid Ji Fu goodnight.

As soon as Bai Ye left, Yao Cuihua entered the room. “You’re letting her go? She’s still a young girl and after the tragedy, she—”

Ji Fu shook his head and cut in. “No, she’s no longer a little girl.”

Yao Cuihua was confused at first, then a realization dawned on her. “You mean…”

“Yes, I believe she’s our little master now. It seems she has inherited the Bai family’s spirit and become its next host,” Ji Fu said.

The middle-aged woman was skeptical. “The spirit accepted her?”

The man nodded. “Why else would she ask for Dark Spiritual Energy? The spirit must have started the energy transfer. From today onwards, Bai Ye is our new liege.”

Yao Cuihua remained unconvinced. “I remember it took her grandfather three years to tame the spirit. Are you sure she has the spirit under control?”

Unknown to them, the spirit was the one who approached Bai Ye. There had been no doubt it would accept her as its host and the whole process was painless for the girl. The spirit was reliant on Bai Ye.

If the elderly couple knew, they would be shocked.

“Send word to Qin Ban, the next spirit host is born. She must be protected at all costs. Also, we will launch an investigation into Bai Zhan’s death,” Ji Fu announced. There was an intensity in his voice and aura that hinted at something more underneath his farmer appearance.
