The Strongest Scalpel (3)
Bai Ye ignored the handmaidâs outburst. She grabbed the gold coin and returned it to Ji Fu, âGrandpa Ji, didnât we say weâll pay one silver coin for the scalpel? We donât need the sword.â
âLittle Ye?â The sword Ji Fu eyed was meant for Bai Ye as well. He did not expect to run into trouble while browsing for weapons in the marketplace.
He glanced at Bai Ye. A moment later, he decided it was better to follow her lead and retrieved a silver coin. The sword was returned to its original position on the table.
âThisâ¦Old man, didnât you hear? I donât want your silver. Please tell your granddaughter to return the scalpel. Our lady here has paid ten gold coins for it. You donât want to offend her,â the weapons dealer whispered into Ji Fuâs ears. He was offering them sound advice.
Bai Ye ignored the manâs advice and said, âGrandpa Ji, leave the coin and letâs go.â She took the silver coin from Ji Fuâs hands and dropped it onto the table. The pair turned to leave.
Bai Ye did not spare Yun Mengmeng a glance.
With her patience wearing thin, Yun Mengmeng shouted, âStay where you are!â
The guards that accompanied the girl marched forward and surrounded Bai Ye and Ji Fu.
âTsk, tsk.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âDo you peasants know who youâre talking to? Youâre stepping on the wrong toes, Lady Yun here is The Little Witch of Tong City!â
âLady Yunâs a prodigy! Sheâs a seventh-ranked practitioner at the age of 15. Sheâll definitely be a Mystic Warrior by the time she enters The Erudition Trials in five years. Sheâs Qingyunâs prodigy.â
The commotion at the weapons stall attracted the attention of nearby vendors and passersby.
Living up to her nickname, the little witch, Yun Mengmeng, gave her orders. âArrest these ill-mannered peasants!â
The weapons dealer tried to persuade Ji Fu. âCome on, just leave the scalpel behind and apologize to the lady. You donât want to end up in Tong Cityâs jail cell.â
As the crowd gathered around them, a smirk appeared on Bai Yeâs lips.
Her training with the Scripture of Bai rewarded her with enhanced sensation and other skills which she was not able to practice due to their constant traveling. She was very keen to try out her new offensive abilities.
âStep aside.â Despite her eagerness to use her newfound skills, Bai Ye did not want to appear savage. If they heeded her request, she would not raise a hand against them.
Unhappy that her dramatic outburst was ignored, the handmaid shouted at the guards, âWhy are you just standing there? The lady said to arrest them!â
The four burly men moved. Among them, there were two ninth-ranked practitioners, one seventh-ranker and another eighth-ranker.
A group with this composition would be regarded as a strong team, especially when all four members moved at once.
Their opponents were a young girl who appeared malnourished and an unfortunate old man.
The onlookers gave the pair condoling looks. There was no doubt they would be captured by the guards. âTheyâre toastâ¦â
Just as Ji Fu contemplated which two men he should take on, something unbelievable happened.
