Chapter 322 Youâre Not The Boss Melanie felt uneasy. That night, she called her mother.
Eliza was pretty close to Damonâs wife, Cynthia, and she knew some people in Damonâs company quite well. After updating her mother about the situation, Melanie requested Elizaâs help to secretly find out about Lena and her familyâs situation in Willowfort.
The next morning. Melanie received news from her mother just moments after she woke up. Her mother found out that Lena pleased Damon very much. His soft-hearted nature made him pity her plight right now. He allowed her to work in his company, going so far as to assign her the position of a department head.
She also heard that Lena would be working at the office today. Melanie had a feeling that her meeting with Damon today would be fraught with challenges.
Melanie prepared her materials, and hailed a taxi to Thousand Acre Exhibitions office building. On her way there, she gave Damon a call.
âDamon, are you at your office right now? Iâm coming over. I want to discuss an exhibition collaboration with you.â
âI have something to attend to, and Iâm not in the office right now. Look for the department head. Sheâs in charge of liaising with you,â Damon said matter-of-factly.
Melanie blinked. She asked frankly, âIf Iâm guessing correctly, the department head youâre referring to is Lena, right?â
The silence on the other end affirmed her guess.
Melanie sighed.
âPerhaps youâd tell me that harmony in the family is of utmost importance, no matter what I say. I have no idea what Lena and her family told you and what you believe, but youâve worked hard your entire life for this company. Youâve been running it well.
âYouâve never asked for a share of the pie of Jones Enterprise, despite its growth. Iâm sure you donât want to see her compromising Thousand Acreâs interests, do you?
âTo be honest, I need your help with a perfume exhibition this time. But if you let Lena liaise with me, believe it or not, she will reject me on your behalf and go back home with a truckload of excuses to explain why she did that.â
âLenaâs been performing well at work recently, and has been very obedient. Will she really do as you said?â Damon said âdoubtfully.
âDamon, why donât you come back to the office and listen to it for yourself? If youâre right and Lena has really turned over a new leaf, I wonât make things difficult for her from now on,â Melanie said firmly.
T LL:
L.ildina and calmly told the front dock the reason for +15 BONUS Melanie wasnât surprised by that at all. She had expected this all along. Given Lenaâs petty mind, she certainly wouldnât be early in meeting her in a bid to show her whoâs boss.
Melanie calmly took out her laptop. She started working while texting Mr. Smith over the phone, choosing photos for the exhibition backdrop.
Lena finally came one hour later.
She had thick makeup on, her hair was styled in an Updo. She was clad in branded office wear.
âOh, if it isnât my dear sister! Had I known it was you, I wouldâve pushed away my earlier appointments and come to meet you first.â
Melanieâs eyes grew cold, and she said unceremoniously, âDid you just buy this pair of shoes yesterday? Are they biting your feet? You look silly walking in them.â
âYouâre as observant as always,â Lena said with a wave of her hand, hiding the frustration growing inside.
Melanie had no intention of sparing her, âAre these new clothes youâre wearing for the first time? Theyâre not your style at all.â
âYou still remember my style, Melanie? Oh, yes! I used to be a starlet under your wing in the past. That naturally cannot be compared with the professional manager that I am right now,â Lena retorted.
âNothing much seems to have changed. Whether a starlet or a manager, youâre ultimately still working for Damon,â Melanie said proudly as she made her intentions clear. âQuit putting on a show in front of me, itâs exhausting. I have something serious to discuss today.â
Lena looked around her and turned around to shutter the windows. âWhat is it?â
âI want to work with Thousand Acre Exhibitions on a perfume exhibition.â
âWhen is it?â Lena asked without even looking up.
âNext week.â
âWeâre not available next week.â
Lena looked up, a firm look of rejection in her eyes.
âWhy is the company not available?â Melanie asked, fully expecting Lenaâs rejection. She added with feigned persistence, âThe perfume exhibition is a highly anticipated event, and the perfumes Iâve concocted have drawn much public attention. I want to work with Damon firstly because I think highly of Thousand Acre Exhibitions as a stable and reliable company. Secondly, I want to achieve a win-win situation with Damon.â
âWow, this is my first time hearing someone speak in such a self-righteous tone when asking for a partnership. You make it sound as if weâre begging for a chance to work with you instead!â
Lena smiled wickedly.
âWell, pardon me. Weâre in the peak season for exhibitions right now, and the schedules of all of our departments are packed.
Thereâs no slot whatsoever for any new exhibitions. Find another company.â
+15 BONUS âLena, I hope you understand that weâre talking business right here. Itâs best that you donât bring in our personal grudges.â
Melanie glanced out the windows, and said steadily, âDamon might not know the terrible things you did in the past, but I do.
Since heâs willing to give you a second chance to turn over a new leaf, you should treasure it and prioritize the companyâs interests in all things.â
Lena raised her voice, âSave your lecture for your employees in Jones Enterprise! Quit acting like youâre the boss of this place!â
