Chapter 377 Truffle Hunter Kellyâs face darkened with displeasure when she saw how the tables had turned.
âMr. Leo, thank you for the gown and jewelry you gave me. Many guests praised me for them.â Melanie said, raising her voice deliberately.
Leo smiled, and waved his hand. âYouâre the one who accentuated their beauty. Itâs a mesmerizing scene to see stunning jewelry worn by a true beauty!â
âJewelry pieces have collection value. Iâll return this set to you after tonight, Mr. York. Since you bid for and purchased it from an auction, Iâm sure you like it very much. You should be the one keeping it,â Melanie said.
âHuh? Why would I take back a gift that Iâve given?â Leo said, waving his hands profusely.
âAlright, then,â Melanie went on with a smile. âI wonât put you on the spot then, Mr. York. Why donât we make a promise to cooperate on the two Unraveling Enigmas perfumes? If the results arenât stellar, Iâll gladly return you this jewelry, okay?â
âYou have a deal.â
Leoâs eyes shone as Melanie reached out her hand. Both of them shook hands as a sign of their agreement.
Applause and congratulatory greetings surrounded them.
Melanie shot them all a smile as she turned around, and said, âIâm a little hungry after all that. Iâll go grab some food.â
The crowd started to disperse, but Kelly was still boiling with anger. She refused to leave the scene. Wouldnât leaving with her tail between her legs be implicitly conceding defeat?
Kelly decided to take that plate she put down earlier, and deliberately stood by Melanieâs side while taking some food.
Melanieâs brows furrowed out of surprise over the stubbornness and resilience of the Murray heiress.
She put down her cutlery, and looked at Kellyâs plate.
âThe texture of wagyu beef is great, but you shouldnât deny the nutritional value and.deliciousness of other cuts of beef just because of that. Whatâs more, the truffle on your plate is termed as the black diamond of the plant kingdom. Ms. Murray, I see youâve taken quite a bit of that. Seems like you enjoy eating expensive things. Do you think that only highâend things are worthy of your attention?â
âWhat else? Should I degrade myself and think that I am worthy of only cheap things?â Kelly had no choice but to grit her teeth and rebut Melanie.
âI wonder if you consider sows highâend?â Melanie asked.
âOf course not!â Kelly looked disgusted.
âDo you know how truffle hunters find truffles? They rely on little sows in rut who can accurately locate where truffles are.â
Melanie added confidently, âWhat you consider cheap is actually something that can help you +15 BONUS âIs what you said true?!â Kelly was utterly embarrassed, and decided to go all out in refuting Melanieâs claims.
âDo you not believe me, Ms. Murray?â
Melanie sneered, no longer bothering to hide her disdain. âThe reason why sows in rut are able to find truffles is because of the effects of androstenone. Go back and read up on the specifics. I donât want to waste my time explaining it to you.â
Kelly was utterly disgraced. Despite that, she refused to admit defeat and wanted to step forward and argue further with Melanie.
Just then, someone pulled her back and whispered into her ear, âWhat she said is true. Say more, and youâll risk embarrassing yourself further.â
That was when Kelly finally gave up and left. With every last one of them gone, Melanie took her plate and left.
She was enjoying her food, when Isla walked over and said, âMelanie, you looked brilliant saying what you said to Kelly!â
âShe started it first,â Melanie said indifferently.
âShe wanted to marry Leo and was rejected last year. Sheâs just trying to vent her anger on you,â Isla explained.
âI see.â
Melanie nodded in acknowledgement. She was still wondering when she had offended the Murray heiress.
While Isla stood on her side just now and was acting all naive and innocent right now, Melanie knew her true colors, and treated her courteously but without sincerity.
âHow beautiful!â
Isla had no idea what was going through Melanieâs mind, and continued prattling on while surveying Melanieâs gown.
âMr. York has such a good eye for clothes! Men, be they straight men or playboys, usually only dare to give clothes in black, white or red colors. But he gave you a dark green gown! You, a fairâfaced beauty!â
âBut Iâm sure Mr. York must have secretly taken note of your measurements. The gown is very fitting!â Isla suddenly smiled cheekily amidst her praises. âHe really likes you!â
âGiven the environment he grew up in, he has seen many women in his lifetime. Iâm sure itâs easy for him to tell at a glance,â
Melanie said, not wanting Isla to continue pairing them together.
âBut Mr. York has never had a partner before,â Isla rebutted.
Melanie blinked. That was true. Leo had remained single all his life.
