Chapter 393 Taking It Back âIf purely from a doctorâs perspective, my recommendation is to not have any babies. Forever.â
The doctor then said in a neutral tone, âBut sheâs already pregnant now. Thatâs all... up to you.â
Melanie clenched her fists tightly, her heart thumping.
She had already made all the necessary preparations. As soon as Jeffrey said he wanted her to abort the baby, she would escape! She would escape far away... Even if she had to change her whole identity, she would never let him find her!
The office was very quiet, so quiet that the silence in the corridor made her own irregular heartbeat deafening. She finally heard Jeffreyâs voice a long while later saying...
âThatâs her child. Her opinion on this is the most important.â
Melanieâs grip instantly loosened. She didnât hear it wrongly, right?
âMr. Jeffrey, our families have been acquainted for a very long time. Please allow me to be straight with you. I know that her heart once belonged to Emma, and she donated it to her. If she were in danger during the pregnancy, a normal pregnant mother would still have the chance of choosing to save the mother or the child. But in her case, she would most likely end up dead with the baby. And then, Emma would forever disappear from this world...â
âEmmaâs already long gone from this world.â
Jeffreyâs voice was shaking slightly. âThat heart had already melded with Melanie a long time ago. It now has her memories, her thoughts. It no longer belongs to Emma, not for a long time...â
âYouâre saying that...?â Even the doctor was shocked.
âI only realized it afterward, and thatâs why we have so many misunderstandings between us. If sheâs really in danger, but I donât care about her but only that heart, am I still human?â Jeffrey asked calmly.
âThat means youâre not going to tell her that you know sheâs pregnant?â
âShe can make the decision. All I need to do is to watch over her.â
Jeffreyâs voice returned to how reassuring it was usually. âIâll ask the other doctors from the other hospitals to get prepared in secret so that theyâll tell her about the hidden risks when she goes over for her checkup. If she decides to keep the child after considering everything, then Iâll use everything I have to protect them.â
âItâs fine if you want to protect them, but you should protect yourself first. If you get another wound infection, even the gods canât save you...â the doctor warned him.
Melanie could feel the sadness inside of her as her fingers holding the door trembled slightly.
She slowly turned around and walked back into the ward, her vision blurred by her tears. The path forward had been shattered into countless fragments.
+15 BONUS Minutes later...
When Jeffrey got back to the ward in a wheelchair, Melanieâs emotions had returned back to normal.
âYouâre awake?â he asked in shock.
William pushed him, and he looked at her warmly. âDo you still feel any pain?â
Melanie said nothing as she hugged the blanket in her arms.
Jeffrey stood up from the wheelchair and held his stomach as he sat on the bed. William left when the chance presented itself.
âWhat is it?â
He looked at her almondâshaped eyes. âAre you still worried about me? Iâm fine now. I was simply getting some fresh air just now.â
âWhy did I faint?â Melanie asked without raising her head..
âYou worked too much. It was from fatigue,â Jeffrey said. âThe doctor said to take more rest and work less.â
He was really hiding it from her...
Melanie didnât dare to raise her head, worried that he would see her tears.
She didnât know if it was because of progesterone. But when she thought back about all the awkwardness and the misunderstandings between them, she felt especially upset and she couldnât stop her tears.
She tried to suppress her sobs and asked, âWhereâs the divorce paper?â
Jeffrey was speechless.
He pursed his lips. In the end, she still wanted a divorce. He gritted his teeth and said, âI told you. I wonât sign that thing!â
âWhy are you being so aggressive?!â
Melanie raised her head and said, âI donât care if you want to sign it or not, but I signed it! Now, I want it back!â
Jeffrey realized that she had tears on her face, and they were still flowing down her cheeks, one drop at a time...
He instantly frowned deeply, as he wasnât sure what to do. He was so distressed that he said, âWhy are you crying? Come on, Iâll give it to you if you want it...â
When he was about to wipe her tears away, he suddenly realized what she meant and was stunned before saying, âAre you saying... you donât want a divorce?â
