Chapter 409 Biological Mother Melanie woke up from a nightmare.
In the dream, she and the boy were trapped in thick smoke, unable to find a way out. She kept coughing until she coughed herself awake.
âItâs okay... Iâm hero..â
The voice that entered her ears was, surprisingly enough, Jeffreyâs voice.
Melanie was startled. She opened her eyes abruptly, and indeed saw that familiar face. Tears welled up in her eyes. âIâm not dreaming, right? Is it really you?â
She reached out to touch his face.
âItâs me... Iâm here...â
Jeffrey held her hand in return, looking at her tearful eyes. His eyes were crimson as he frowned in worry.
âWhat happened?â
Seeing Jeffrey, Melanie instantly found a pillar of support. She calmed down, and her first reaction was to reach for her belly.
âThe baby?â
âThe baby is fine.â
Jeffrey gently covered her slightly cool fingertips, warming them. âDonât worry, heâs very well.â
âBut I inhaled a lot of smoke...â Melanie still had doubts.
âThe doctor said heâs developing well, and all the indicators are normal. Our child is strong.â Jeffrey said, and his face softened. âYouâre not even three months pregnant. The doctor said if there were any problems, the child wouldnât have survived. But since heâs so strong, it means heâs fine.â
Melanie breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the child was fine. Otherwise, she would live in guilt. At this thought, tears flowed out of her eyes.
Jeffreyâs brows furrowed deeper. âWhy are you crying again? Are you feeling uncomfortable?â
She shook her head, wiping away tears. âIâm just scared. What if I didnât protect him well...â
âBy protecting yourself, you protected him. You did well,â Jeffrey comforted her softly.
Melanie sniffed, trying to control her emotions that were on the verge of getting out of control. She started to analyze the mysterious events. âHow was I saved?â
âAfter hearing that the York estate caught fire, my people arrived a step too late. When they came, you were already saved by someone else. I found you in this hospital,â Jeffrey explained guiltily.
âWho saved me?â She was puzzled.

+15 BONOS Jeffrey shook his head. âThe surveillance footage during the time you were brought to the hospital had been erased. The medical staff said the people who processed the procedures for you wore hats and masks, making it impossible to see their faces.â
âWas it a man or a woman?â Melanie asked again.
âThe nurse said it was two men.â
âThere was no woman?â Melanie frowned. âI remember there was a woman, the one giving orders...â
âHow do you remember?â Jeffrey held her hand, accompanying her in recalling her memories. He was afraid she would exert herself too much.
Melanie closed her eyes to recall, and then shook her head. âIâm not sure if it was a dream or reality. Oh right!
She suddenly remembered something, and asked eagerly. âWhat about the boy? Was he captured?â
âHe wasnât found anywhere,â Jeffrey answered. âAre you saying that the boy was in the room with you when the fire broke out?â
âYes.â Melanie nodded.
She told Jeffrey the complete story of how she secretly went to see the boy, and how the room caught fire and was locked from the outside.
After Jeffrey heard that, he shook his head. âMy people didnât see him, and there were no signs of struggle.â
That was strange.
Melanie furrowed her brows. Even if she assumed that the conversation between the man and the woman in her memory was a dream, her memory of being trapped in the room with the boy was absolutely real. The boy was really there. She also heard someone grabbing him and threatening him.
How could it be...?
âWhat about the Yorks? Did they find him?â Melanie asked.
Jeffrey still answered in the negative, âIâve been with you all this while. I didnât pay attention to anything else.â
At that moment, William entered quietly. Seeing Melanie awake, he sensibly lowered his head to stand aside. Jeffrey turned to ask him if there were any movements in the Yorks.
William replied, âOnly Elder Gibson is causing a scene in the York family. There are no other movements.â
âWhy is my master there?â Melanie asked in confusion.
âWhen he heard that a fire broke out and that you were trapped, Elder Gibson searched for you with me. He left only after confirming that you were safe. William said he drove back to the Yorks and is now demanding justice for you,â Jeffrey explained.
âYes, Mrs. Morgan. Elder Gibson seized an opportunity. The Yorks started a fire without any reason, and it just happened to implicate you. Considering your previous encounter with assassination at the Yorks, Elder Gibson 213:
+15 BONOS Melanie lowered her gaze, feeling warmth in her heart.
Unexpectedly, her master was the obedient potential sonâinâlaw in front of Mr. York for one moment; the next, he would create chaos at the York family for her.
He was truly a good master.
âThis time, I wonât let the York family off, either.â Jeffrey gritted his teeth, determined.
âAre you going to make a scene there as well?â Melanie smiled. âItâs enough that my master seeks justice for me. I want to ask you, do you know who the boyâs mother is?â
âThere are too many women around Harlow, and his recent gossip isnât grabbing much attention anymore,â Jeffrey said.
âThe boy is ten years old. Judging from this, Harlow and the boyâs mother were probably together about ten years ago. At that time, Harlow wasnât even thirty years old. Can you investigate?â Melanie asked.
She remembered that the elegant and sharp woman had said that the boy was her son.
If that wasnât a dream, the boy must have been rescued by now, and was probably with his biological mother...
