Chapter 428 A Smart Person The bodyguard standing behind Linda said, âMs. Yancey, weâve called the police. Theyâre on their way here.â
âWhat use will they be?â Linda shrieked, clearly displeased.
The police would come, open the case, interrogate suspects and investigate the matter. Even if they manage to find the stolen diamonds, so what?
Could her show wait till then?
âMelanie, what do you mean?â
Linda was pinning all her hopes on Melanie.
Melanie sniffed out the entire safe thoroughly, and turned around to say, âI smell a lingering scent on the safe, which smells like a mix of perfume and tobacco. If you can gather everyone here and line them up with a gap in between each person, Iâll be able to quickly pinpoint who touched that safe. Thatâll make the matter easier to investigate.â
Lindaâs eyes lit up. âHow could I forget the talent that you are?â
She chuckled, and instructed the bodyguard behind her, âMake everyone line up and await checks!â
âYes!â
The bodyguards split up to maintain an orderly queue. Melanie led Annie and Linda to an empty room, where all three of them sat down.
Now that things were quieter, Linda turned to look at Melanie and asked, âHow confident are you about this? There are so many people here. Iâm sure itâs not easy to identify the scent!â
Lindaâs rightâhand man suggested, âWhy donât I call Mr. Wright and Ms. Murray who are the prime suspects here, and let you see if they are the ones?â
âDonât,â Melanie said with a quick shake of her head.
âWhy not?â Linda could sense that something was wrong.
Melanie blinked, and said, âTo be honest, I didnât smell anything just now.â
âMiss Melanie, are you joking?â Lindaâs rightâhand man yelled anxiously.
Linda lifted her hand, signaling for him not to interrupt Melanie.
+15 BONOS Melanie went on, âI wanted to sniff out a scent, but I suppose the safe mustâve been placed below the vent. All the scent would have been blown away, leaving nothing behind. I decided to change tact instead.........â
Her voice petered out, but Linda knew what she meant. The corner of her lips lifted as she instructed, âMake sure they donât make things difficult for Mr. Wright and Kelly Murray. Let ther queue as long as they want.â
âYes, miss!â Her rightâhand man more or less figured out what was going on, and left to make the necessary arrangements.
âItâs just going to be tough on you, having to sniff out so many people even though youâre just putting up an act.â Lindaâs gaze softened as she smiled at Melanie. âIâll have someone prepare refreshments for you. You can stop anytime you feel tired.â
âItâs an honor to be able to help you, Ms. Yancey,â Melanie smiled, brightly and sincerely.
Very soon, the queue was ready. All the security guards and construction workers involved in preparing the show walked into the room one by one, and drew close to Melanie so that she could smell them.
She waved everyone else away very quickly, until it reached Kellyâs turn.
The moment Kelly walked in, the strong smell of her perfume filled the entire room, so much so that Melanie and Ms. Yancey couldnât help but pinch their noses.
âMs. Yancey, Iâm afraid we might have to switch rooms after this,â Melanie said helplessly.
Linda waved someone over, and instructed him to make the necessary arrangements. She looked up at Kelly and said, clearly displeased, âDid you apply more perfume?â
âIyes no wait, Ms. Yancey, I really didnât go near that safe. I donât even have a clue what your jewelry pieces look like!â
Kelly started sobbing out of panic. The thought of Lindaâs threat to make the thief wish he were dead made her almost faint out of fright.
âAre you worried I might take this chance to take revenge on you in Ms. Yanceyâs name?â Melanie asked.
Kelly looked at Melanie with rage in her eyes, but she didnât dare to say anythingâwhich was akin to a tacit agreement.
âLeave the room, donât waste our precious time!â Melanie said with a wave of her hand, and the bodyguard dragged Kelly out of the room.
+15 BONOS Melanie and Linda then shifted to another clean room.
âAre you sure itâs not Kelly?â Linda asked Melanie. âShe looked even more guilty, having reapplied her perfume.â
âInclude her in the list of suspects for now, but I think itâs not likely that itâs her. She has neither the guts nor the intellect to do so.â
Melanie explained. âEven if sheâs trying to cover things up by reapplying perfume, thereâs no need to go overboard with it. As if sheâs worried that I canât sniff out the issue.â
Linda nodded. âThe one who stole Sun and Moon must be a smart person.â
Melanie nodded in agreement.
After sniffing out a few more people, it was Mr. Wrightâs turn to enter the room. He stood up straight to allow Melanie to sniff him, and even explained himself, âThis cologne of mine is from a longâestablished brand which Iâve been using for decades. Ms.
Yancey, you probably know about it too.â
âYes, a man like you is surely a smart one. Smart men wonât do something so foolish. You may leave now,â Melanie said as she glanced at Linda.
Linda immediately caught on, and instructed her rightâhand man after Mr. Wright left the room.
Find his family members and restrain all of them!â
âYes, miss!â
Her rightâhand man immediately set off to instruct his team.
When he returned, he couldnât hold back his curiosity and asked, âMiss, I smelled it for myself just now. The cologne Mr. Wright was wearing is indeed the brand that he usually uses. Why do you suspect him?â
âNot a suspect. Iâm sure itâs him,â Melanie corrected him calmly.
