Chapter 40: Connected?

FIGHT OF LOVE AND HATEWords: 5789

Theo and I were in Ava's room with the doctor who was treating her, while the others were in the adjacent room with the girl. When Theo received a phone call from Ava's phone, and the girl said, "We need help," Theo, Mr. Lopez, and I rushed out of the house towards the forest. We found the girl with cuts and dried blood on her body, and Ava on the ground with her eyes closed.

The weight on my neck made it impossible to cry or voice my words. I stood still until Theo shook me out of my trance with the girl beside him and Ava in Mr. Lopez's arms. Now, we are in Ava's room, waiting for her to open her eyes.

Mrs. Lopez entered the room "Theo, Liv, come downstairs and have dinner. Ava is will beokay now." But I didn't move an inch. Instead, I moved forward and sat on her bed.

"Liv—" Mrs Lopez tried but I stopped her. "I am not going anywhere, not until she wakes up. She needs someone, and I will be here," I said sternly, and after a few seconds, I heard the door closing.

I reached out for her hand and held it tightly, feeling the coldness against my palm. "Ava," I whispered, letting her name roll out of my mouth softly, as if I were scared to wake her up. Tears slipped from my eyes, falling on our joined hands.

I snapped back to reality when I felt her fingers move. I stood up and got closer to her, removing hairs from her face when her eyes met mine. I felt happy, alive that she woke up. But that happiness vanished quickly, remembering the events of our last night and our argument. I moved away, detangling our hands, and left the room.

Just before reaching the door handle, I felt a gush of wind and looked up to find Ava in front of me. She didn't say anything, just stood there staring at me. To be honest, I was a bit scared or maybe just startled by her.

"Your heartbeat is increasing," she said, looking at me. I noticed it, taking a step back. I tried calming down my heartbeat, but she reciprocated and took a step forward towards me but then stopped.

"Are you scared of me?" she questioned again. I shook my head. "Then why are you walking backward?" To be honest, I didn't have the answer to that question myself. I was too deep to notice she had said something. "You should go downstairs," she said walking past me. Still, my body was already in action; without thinking, my hand took hold of hers, stopping her from walking any further.

"Ava, I-I," I sighed. "How are you feeling?" I asked instead of what I really wanted to.

She shook my hand off her and turned to me, keeping a bit of distance between us. "I never got to apologize for how I attacked you last night. I–I didn't realize what I was doing until Theo pulled me off. I will make sure nothing like this happens ever again." She said, her eyes not looking at me and staring at the ground.

"Ava, it's ok—" I stopped mid-sentence hearing the door open. "Oh, Ava, goodness, you should be in bed. Why didn't you call anyone?" Mrs. Lopez said walking in.

"Mom, I am fine. I just wanted to have some fresh air." "Ava honey, are you–" "Maa, I am fine seriously. I just need some fresh air," she  said walking towards the balcony without sparing a glance towards them.

AVA POV

They are kidnapping girls... Young girls. For what? What are they even planning? We need to act fast.

"Ava," I heard her say when she shook my shoulder. I turned around to find her standing there staring at me. I just hummed for her to continue. "Ava, I wanted to talk to you," she whispered but stopped and exhaled, and I could feel her breath on my face. It showed how close she was standing to me.

"I wanted to talk—" Within seconds, I felt big muscular arms crushing me in a tight hug. "You are awake, thank god," Theo said pulling back, "How are you feeling? Do you need some blood intake, or should I call the doc? Do you want to lay down? Wait, are you feeling sick? Are your wounds all healed—"

"Theo, I am fine, really."

"I am sure she is fine. Theo, you are just panicking," Andrea said walking in with Liam behind her.

"How are you feeling, Ava?" Liam asked. "Good."

"Guys, how's the girl doing?" I questioned. "She is safe and resting in one of the rooms." I nodded my head.

"Hey, I just realized that I have seen that girl's picture at the station today on the Missing person board." I stated, which could be helpful for us. Andrea's face turned confused, and she and Olivia exchanged looks.

Andrea pulled out her phone and walked out of the room, assuming to talk to one of her colleagues. I started to walk back towards my bed to take a seat. During my walk, I might have lost my balance, and my stupid mind waited for me to touch the floor, but instead, I felt two strong, firm hands holding me, preventing me from falling. I opened my eyes and looked behind to see Olivia holding me, her eyes staring into mine with... with love?

I stood up straight quickly, moving away from her, resulting in me hurting my wound and groaning in pain. Within seconds, everyone was beside me, including her, holding my waist again. "I am ok, I am ok," I said moving away from her, but she had a firm grip on me.

"Stop moving," she exclaimed in frustration and helped me, leading me towards my bed. "Just because you are a vampire, you cannot move fast even when you are injured. You are not yet fully healed. Understood?" she said with full authority in her voice. I nodded my head, not daring to argue with her.

"You were correct; she is indeed one of the missing girls, a case where I am working on." Andrea said walking in the room.

"Do you think that the missing girls cases are somehow connected to these vampire murders?" said Liam.

"Possible. The only common thing between both of them is vampires," said Theo.

"Well, I guess we should talk to the girl when she wakes up," I said, ending the conversation.
