âI told you not to mess with me. But no, you wanted to prove how courageous you are. What happened to that courage? It went down the drain, didnât it?â
Claire kept looking at the document in front of her. Even if she had cunning things to say to Zara, it was pointless.
The truth was, she had lost. She lost the battle she boastfully jumped in, hoping that she would win because she was the one who was married for two years to the man she was fighting for.
It was him who made her lose. So it would be dumb to speak now
She quietly scribbled her signature on the document and dropped the pen on it.
âTake my advice, Claire, now if you want to live a peaceful life then donât cross our path. Hunter and I are inseparable. You will only get disappointment and more defeat if you try your luck with my man again.â
My man? Claire was flummoxed to
o hear that.
Before she reacted with words, both the official and Hunter returned. He looked between her and Zara grimly. As if trying to find what they were talking about.
The official didnât let him dwell on it as he handed him two signed copies of divorce certificates. Hunter thanked him and he exited his office with Zara and Claire as some couples were lining outside his cabin to register their marriage.
âClaire,â Hunter called her name as he forwarded her copy of the divorce certificate.
She literally snatched it from his hand and whirled around to leave. However, his calloused and hot fingers seized hold of her wrist again.
âLet go, Mr. MacIntyre Claire said sharply.
She felt him move behind her. He stopped with his chest pressing on her back. Goosebumps cascaded along her spine. Not. that he had any right to stand this closer with her, she forcefully withdrew her hand out of his touch and turned to eye him, murderously.
âWeâve been married for two years. Canât you wait until we exchange our parting words? Why are you in a rush?â
âI donât know you anymore. And thereâs no need for any parting words. Remember, you eagerly wanted this!â She flashed her copy of divorce certificate in front of his eyes.
âCelebrate our divorce consider me dead.â
Hunter opened his mouth to rebuke, âIâm sorry, Claire. This is happening because of me. I shouldnât have come between you two.â
He blinked his eyes and scowled at Zara who said those words,
âYou didnât come between us, Zara, Donât say that again. He frowned.
âNo matter what you say, Hunter, the truth will remain as is that came in between you two. Can you please move a little so I can speak with Claire. She stepped ahead, between Claire and Hunter.
Zara took Claireâs hand and squeezed it apologetically in her holl as she spoke, âClaire, I know you hate me for this, but please, donât hate me a lot. I swear I tried to stop this divorce. But Hunter wonât let me go.

âI am a woman too and know what it feels like to be separated from the man you love.â Zara smirked as she squeezed Claireâs hand tighter.
It was visible that she was doing this to rub a mountain of salt on her freshly incurred wounds.
Claire was about to pull her hand back and snap at her that she heard Zara say, âIf it wasnât for his stubbornness then I wouldnât have agreed to marry him today.â
âMarry him today?â Claire repeated those words, her eyes stalling on Hunterâs face in disbelief.
âYeah, he insisted that we get married today itself. Though I told him we can do it some other day, he wants it today.â Zara pulled her hand to her chest and continued in her deceitfully inpocent voice, âPlease, donât blame me for it. Claire. I donât want us to be enemies in the future because of our marriage. Itâs Hunter who wanted all of this. Otherwise Lâ¦
Claire was too numb to hear anything ahead. She blinked back the tears forming and smiled.
âCongratulations to you both then.â
âThanks. By the way, can I ask you something if you donât mind
Yanking her hand out of Zaraâs clutch, Claire locked eyes with Hunter as she replied to Zara
âWhy not?â
âHunter didnât buy me a ring. I mean, he intended to buy a new one for me but then we remembered that the rings you and he exchanged were my dream rings. They were designed for our wedding. Although he has his wedding ring, the one that was mine is on your finger⦠Zara trailed off, causing Claire to bring her eyes to her.
She arched her eyes, allowing Zara to go ahead with her demands.
She already said so much. Why was she hesitating now?
âSo⦠If you donât mind-
âWhy will I mind? This is your ring. It was made for you. It belonged to you always. Iâve been unknowingly cherishing stuff that wasnât mine from the start. Claire sneered without taking her eyes off Hunter.
She took off the ring with her other hand and slapped it on Zarak palm. She was violent. But still, neither Zara nor Hunter reacted to it
Iâm sorry, Claire, I didnât-
âI hope you donât get treated like me. Have a happy married life.
Hunter swallowed hard over those words. He was about to move Zara aside and talk with Claire when she spun around and exited. He kept staring unless she disappeared from his sight, leaving his heart pounding.
Swallowing again, he regarded Zara with a steely gaze, confidential.â
Why did you tell her about our marriagelâfold you it would be
He ran a hand through his hair. Since he assured Zara that he would marry her, she had been bright and joyful. Her health has recovered completely and so to keep it that way, when she asked when they would get married, to prevent her from bothering him again and again with the question, he said that it would be on the same day he and Claire receive their divorce certificate.
Now as he thought about it, a heavy feeling seuled in his chest. Why did he say it to Zara?
Above all⦠Of all people, Claire had to know it first. He felt his heart racing in his chest, thinking about what Claire would
think now.

âAnd the ring.â He heaved a heavy sigh. It was clear that he was controlling his irritation. âI told you I ordered a similar ring for you. You didnât have to take it from her, Zaraâ
Zara lowered her head as tears formed in her eyes, Iâm sorry. I didnât mean to offend you or Claire. I just thought,â She sobbed. âI just
âGod!â He hugged her and caressed her hair. âThatâs fine. Iâm not blaming you.â
âI should have understood. Claire must feel so bad about it. While she just got divorced we are getting married. I also took the ring from her. She must have many memories attached to the ring.â
âI am so stupid. I shouldnât have done it. I will go after her and apologize.â Zara said as she tried to release herself from the hug.
