Chapter 23-1 Danielle felt a little awkward, unsure how to respond. She and David had only just met and werenât particularly close yet. Still, it was obvious her parents and Logan were eager to see them married as soon as possible.
"Danielle, when you were kidnapped, it was a terrible blow to your grandparents and parents. You must have gone through so much all those years,"
Logan said, his voice heavy with emotion. "Weâre just so happy to have you back now."
He paused for a moment, then continued, "Now that youâre back with the Darling family, itâs a shame your grandparents are still in the hospital. If it werenât for you saving my life, I might not even be here today." Loganâs eyes grew misty as he spoke.
Danielle was about to respond, but Logan pressed on, "Youâve been through so much already. From now on, the Charrington family will take even better care of you. David may seem cold, but deep down, heâs a good man."
"I donât even use it that much," Logan muttered, knowing he was in the wrong.
Logan had recently developed a habit of staying up late scrolling through short videos on his phone. He was more addicted than any young man, completely ignoring the fact that he was recovering from surgery.
"Here. I made this medicine myself. Itâs mainly for heart health," Danielle said, pulling out a small bottle.
Loganâs eyes widened. "Danielle, you can even make your own medicine, huh?" He was stunned. To him, it felt like there was nothing Danielle couldnât do. He glanced at David, suddenly worried Danielle might find David lacking in comparison.
Meanwhile, David seemed entirely unfazed, unaware that Logan was silently berating him.
"Danielle, youâre incredible. Iâll make sure to take it on time," Logan said enthusiastically. "By the way, do you think I can be discharged now?" He was getting stir-crazy in the hospital.
"You can leave, but only if you promise to rest and stay off your phone," Danielle replied, her tone firm but kind.
"Okay, Iâll listen to you," Logan agreed quickly, his face lighting up at the thought of finally going home.
Danielle gave him a small smile and let the matter drop.
Outside the room, whispers and chatter filled the hallway as doctors and nurses exchanged observations about the pair.
"Mr. Charrington is so tall and handsome. Plus, heâs well-educated and from such a prestigious family," one nurse gushed.
"Did you see the girl with him? Sheâs stunning! That skin, those legs-she looks like she stepped right out of a movie," another added, unable to hide her admiration.
"Mr. Charrington and that young lady make such a striking couple."
"Iâve seen her before. She was the lead surgeon for Loganâs operation."
"What are you all chatting about instead of working?" Savannahâs sharp voice interrupted as she approached.
The nurses quickly greeted her. "Good morning, Dr. Watson. We just saw Mr. Charrington go into Loganâs room with a young lady. You know her-
sheâs the one who performed Loganâs surgery."
At the mention of Danielle, Savannahâs expression darkened. She prided herself on being the youngest doctor with numerous awards, but sheâd never felt so humiliated. Even Ethan wouldnât stop praising Danielle after that surgery.
Bitterly, she thought, âThat bitch just got lucky saving Logan, and now, sheâs clinging to Mr. Charrington!â
"She was lucky, and thatâs all. Now, back to work," Savannah said curtly, brushing them off before heading toward Loganâs room.
Inside, the sound of laughter filled the air until a knock interrupted.
"Logan, how are you feeling today? Iâm here to check on you," Savannah said, forcing a smile as she stepped in.
"Iâm fine. My future granddaughter-in-law already examined me. No need for another check-up," Logan replied, beaming with pride.
Savannah froze. "Future granddaughter-in-law? You mean this young lady?" She gestured at Danielle, struggling to hide her disbelief. When sheâd seen Danielle the last time, Danielle barely knew Logan.
"Thatâs right. Sheâs brilliant with medicine," Logan said, clearly pleased.
"Logan, weâre professional doctors, and we care about your health," Savannah replied, trying to sound composed but feeling her frustration boil. She believed that maybe sheâd have caught Davidâs attention instead if Danielle hadnât been in that operating room.
Loganâs face turned serious. "Are you questioning my future granddaughter-in-lawâs skills?"
Savannah quickly backtracked. "No, of course not. Iâm just concerned about your recovery. After all, sheâs not part of our hospital staff," she said, feigning a hurt tone.
Not A Small Town Girl (Danielle and David)
ï¤Chapter 22 But as she looked at Danielle, her resentment deepened. âWhy does everyone side with this bitch? Ethan even let her into the operating room that day!â she thought bitterly.
"Nathan, is the discharge paperwork ready?" David asked coolly, cutting through the tension.
"Yes," Nathan replied respectfully. "Everythingâs set. Logan is cleared to leave."
Savannahâs eyes narrowed. "Mr. Charrington, your grandfather just had surgery. Itâs better if he stays for observation a little longer," she said, trying to maintain a professional front.
Logan, now visibly annoyed, retorted, "My grandson and future granddaughter-in-law have already approved my discharge. Why are you trying to argue?"
Faced with Loganâs sharp tone, Savannah clammed up, though her eyes flashed with jealousy and hostility toward Danielle.
Danielle sighed internally, âWhatâs her problem? She caused a scene during surgery, and now, sheâs at it again.â
"Logan, letâs get going," Danielle said gently, stepping forward to help him. She didnât want him getting worked up over Savannahâs attitude.
Loganâs mood instantly lifted as he smiled at Danielle. "Alright, letâs go."
The group left the room together, leaving Savannah behind. She stood there, fuming. Her frustration bubbled over as she stomped her foot.
