Chapter 100: Chapter 89 - Accompany her new boyfriend

XG 89 - Accompany her new boyfriend

The days go on with Wong Xue Guo continuing to train, going out to kill zombies and gather supplies. At the end of the day, she would return to the lab and sleep like the dead. Exhaustion and Mr. Rabbit does chase nightmares away.

She had spent overnight outside of the Musihada laboratory three times, but those overnight stays never allowed her to rest well. Often, she would jolt awake in the middle of the night by something that only exists in her mind, or by small animals passing by.

Other than Wong Xue Guo and Chen Yibo, the group members always changed between Suzie Yap’s bodyguards and her father’s gang members. She had also gotten closer to Lan Yan, who did not mind sharing some of Charles Wong’s stories.

She had not seen much of Do Eunhyuk's group. The latest news she heard was that Do Eunhyuk formed a team with his daughter to hunt zombies and gather supplies whenever he was not needed in the lab.

Other than improving her zombie-slaying skills, Wong Xue Guo had also started to take Korean language lessons from Chen Yibo.

“I can teach, but I do not have the necessary books,” Chen Yibo said.

“No need. I just need to know how to handle conversation and understand what they say.”

"I will try my best to help you learn. If you find it hard, you can just ask me to help you translate."

"That's only if you plan to stick by my side forever," Wong Xue Guo retorted. Although Chen Yibo always tagged along with her whenever she went out of the base, she could see the research department was getting busy and he was often asked to help out.

“I will be there whenever you need me,” Chen Yibo promised. He had said it without reluctance or even spent time thinking it over.

She should have been happy about it, but there was a slight pain in her heart with the strange thought that his words were not exactly what she wanted. Before she could analyze that feeling further, she pushed it to the back of her mind. The instinct that was connected to the desire to protect herself told her not to examine it.

“Did the research on the gene make any progress?” Wong Xue Guo asked, not wanting to continue the previous topic any further.

“Progress… they named the gene ‘Alpha’.”

“Alpha?” Why does that term immediately bring forward the image of werewolves? She must have read too many werewolf romance stories. “Why do they name it so?”

“They reasoned that the gene could grant people with ability closer to God. Those with activated genes would be the new humans, bringing everyone to the new world. This apocalypse is their new beginning and the gene is their salvation. We are in generation Z, and the next generation is Alpha, so they used it.”

“How cheesy. Did no one disagree with it?”

“No. They liked it.” And so the name sticks.

After Chen Yibo agreed to teach her Korean, it became their daily routine of training or scouting for the most part of the day, and then return to the base, took a thorough shower before meeting up at her room to study.

At first, Chen Yibo disagreed as it was her private space, but with Suzie Yap supervising them in the living room, he relaxed his guard and agreed. He also noticed Mr. Rabbit sitting up on her bed and smiled after knowing it was given by Charles Wong.

It was another day of Chen Yibo believing Wong Xue Guo was truly loved by her parents and being happy for her.

As days went on, with her reflex getting better and better after experiencing field training, Wong Xue Guo could more or less predict who will be her next rotating teammates, after removing the latest names of those that had unfortunately passed away.

But she never predicted Choi Yerim would be today’s teammate.

Today, Choi Yerim was dressed in a pale yellow coat, looking sweet and youthful. Just like any other Korean lady, she has a smooth, glossy face, looking nice to touch. Not even Suzie Yap, who had used a lot of money on her face, had ever achieved such a poreless, smooth, and moist-looking face.

Although she was her mother’s love rival, Suzie Yap never mentioned anything else about Choi Yerim, perhaps hoping not to interfere with her daughter’s judgment. And so Wong Xue Guo assumed everything else to her own liking. With Choi Yerim’s sophisticated look and preferring softer color clothing, she was categorized as a scholar rather than a fighter type.

Wong Xue Guo’s assumption was spot on because Choi Yerim joined today’s team for two purposes. One was to search for some medicine the lab was running out of and the second was to accompany her new boyfriend.

Surprisingly, her boyfriend was Jackson, one of the core members of the research. He was also the one from the United Kingdom with his previous team suspected to have secretly researched genetics. Among the eastern people, he and L.L. were the most easily spotted, with their impressive height and blond hair.

With two researchers on board, it means the other members would need to protect them, thus they had more members joining their group.

For a moment, Wong Xue Guo really wanted to opt out of today’s team. She even looked at Kang Xunsu pleadingly, but he just grinned, not allowing her to slink away. If he needs to play bodyguard, the little princess should join in the fun too.

“Okay, let’s decide who will be in Team A and Team B,” Kang Xunsu called everyone to gather.

With their larger number, they will need two cars to set out, hence Team A and Team B.

Without asking, Wong Xue Guo and Chen Yibo were immediately slotted into Team A, led by Kang Xunsu. L.L. was not joining them today and was replaced with Vihaan to join them in Team A and their last member was Hong Yan, Charles Wong’s left-handed man. Today, his elder sister did not join them, so Wong Xue Guo and Choi Yerim were the only females in the group.

The leader of Team B was one of the guards stationed around the lab. Beom Seok volunteered to join the team, treating it as a change of view before returning to his guard duty. He had a very short buzz cut that could not protect him from the winter, so he was spotted with a cap. The rest of his team were people Wong Xue Guo was not familiar with.

Each team will be guarding one of the couples, making things easier for them to focus on.

Today’s target location will be Sinnyeom hospital, one of the places with a large number of zombies. It was also one of the survivor bases Do Eunhyuk’s group had mentioned. If possible, they do not want to encounter that group of survivors to avoid unnecessary trouble, but their researchers need something only available in that hospital.

"Can't we take the same car?" Choi Yerim pleaded, her hand clinging onto Jackson's arm.

"My girlfriend is afraid. Why don't you let her stay with me until we reach the hospital?" Jackson tried to bargain.

Despite the sappy scenery, Wong Xue Guo was happy for Choi Yerim to have a boyfriend because it means her father has one lesser tail. It also made her glad that she could finally act more naturally around Choi Yerim without constantly being on guard and suspecting what she wanted to do whenever she tried to start a conversation.

Choi Yerim was a sensible person and should have finally thought wisely to give up on a married man, but strangely, his married status had never deterred Choi Yerim in the other timeline.

The only change between both timelines was Wong Xue Guo’s presence and likely to have changed Choi Yerim in this timeline.

In the other timeline, Choi Yerim knew Charles Wong had a wife and a daughter, but his married status failed to keep her away because she had only seen Suzie Yap and not the big daughter.

Second, Charles Wong was able to maintain his looks and also have a charm that could capture young ladies’ hearts. Thus, Choi Yerim could not stop herself from falling for Charles Wong, thinking that if he could fall for her, it means his love towards Suzie Yap was not strong enough.

But in this timeline, she had seen the young adult Wong Xue Guo, strongly impaling the knowledge of Charles Wong being a father into Choi Yerim’s brain, thus she did not let herself continue being attracted to Charles Wong.

"Brother Xunsu, it's just a small request," Wong Xue Guo spoke out for Choi Yerim.

Kang Xunsu was also too lazy to argue and time was tight. "Alright, alright. You two can stay in a car."
