XG 97 - Her father's warm chest
Really, they had dealt with quite a number of living corpses, and they even have a backup team helping from attacking the enemies from the other side.
So why do Wong Xue Guo still get stuck in this situation!
She had been too occupied with fighting the dead corpses and allowed them to unknowingly surround her, steering her, until she had gotten out of the room where her team members would be far away to save her.
Chen Yibo and Hong Yan had noticed her current predicament and struggled to break away to get to her, but the remaining corpses were suspiciously more agile and smarter than before. Perhaps it was because the controller could focus more now that the number they needed to control was lesser?
"Oh, Motherfucker," Wong Xue Guo breathed the words out like prayer and pulled out her gun.
She was pretty sure the short pause of the corpses around her was because the controller did not expect she would switch weapons at such a time. It gave her more time to shoot at the corpses' hearts first before moving on to decorate them with bullet holes.
If someone thinks that her gunsmanship was terrible since she always used her sword to fight, they were deadly wrong. It was not that she was terrible, she just does not like the inconvenience of it.
Her gun allowed her to regain more space around her and she switched between her sword and gun to continue maintaining the distance. Bending low, she swiftly swung her sword and chopped off a few legs while using her gun to hold them back from reaching her. At this time, she suddenly thought that her mother's weapon of choice was quite splendid. With two kitchen knives, these legs and hands will be much easier to chop off.
With a gun in her right hand and a sword in her left hand, she nearly broke out of her dangerous cage but the remaining zombies became more dexterous the more zombies died. The result of their increased dexterity also increased the number of injuries on her.
There was a sharp sting across her cheek from someone's claws which also destroyed her mask. Grinding her teeth, she bore with the pain as she continued to defend and attack, but her movement became noticeably slower with her increasing injuries.
This was perhaps the worst state she had ever gotten since the apocalypse outbreak. Her confidence that she could avoid getting so much injury after starting her training dropped like a landslide.
"Erk!" Someone delivered a kick onto her stomach, strong enough to have her kneel halfway down. Her sudden breakdown on defense had the corpses gotten closer to her.
She vaguely heard someone yelling her name, but she could not digest what they said. Her sword had dropped somewhere and there was only a gun left in her hand. Soon, there were no more bullets and she could only fight with a small knife that exposed her to closer contact with the corpses.
Dodge, kick, punch, stab.
She did all four of them by instinct honed through fighting, refusing to back down and surrender to her fate. Forcing herself to train was mainly to protect herself instead of troubling others as she waited to be rescued!
As long as she still has her hands and legs, she can still fight!
Since earlier, she had been thinking of what she had that the enemy feared her, even more than they feared Vihaan. She had noticed the corpses paid more attention to her than Vihaan, and she does not believe it was because she was the weakest person in the group.
An easy prey could be killed anytime, especially when she frequently left the base. Only Vihaan had rare chances to come out and harder to kill with his ability. So why would the enemies waste their resources to out her first?
The fortune teller, or someone with a unique ability, must have seen something in her future or regarding her potential ability. It must be something more fearful than Chen YiWen's time manipulation and with lesser restrictions than his.
While it was tempting to just let them bite her until she awakened her gene and trashed them all with her 'fearful' ability, she also knew the line between gaining power and death was just a step difference.
How could she gamble her own life when her parents had sacrificed theirs to get the chance to give everyone and her a second chance to live?
Her suspicion that her ability was something the enemy was terrified of was further solidified as the corpses surrounding her did not bite her, but chose to punch, kick and scratch her slowly to her death. Their heads were careful to keep a distance from her flesh and their attacks were so forceful that she nearly vomited when they hit her torso area.
Her whole body ached like crazy and it bloody hurts!
Strangely, knowing they would not bite her had her laugh out loud. Her eyes flashed deviously as she started fighting in a style similar to a street thug, no longer afraid of getting close to them. If there was a brick or anything lethal around her, she would have grabbed it in the heat of the brawling mood and smashed their head into a plup.
It would be even better if their thrashing accidentally had her gene activated naturally!
Fighting with her life at risk, abandoning every worry, and letting her body fight without restrain. The thrilling excitement of fighting was accidentally discovered by her.
This was the scene that fell onto Charles Wong's eyes when he and his men killed the corpses blocking their way. The bloodthirsty and devil may care smile was so hauntingly similar to his wife during her wild days had the hairs on his arms stood up. In his memory, other than the familiar smile and bloody scene, everything else was different.
His wife was the one that beat up people but their daughter was getting beaten up instead.
Was she planning to commit suicide?
Charles Wong's steps quickened and his shot was even quicker. Wielding two guns, he broke apart the corpses that were ganging up to beat up his daughter. He grabbed the back of Wong Xue Guo's jacket and swung her around until she stood behind him as he viciously stomped the chest of the corpse that had punched her and emptied his bullets onto another poor corpse.
How dangerous. If she had not zipped up her winter jacket, she would have slipped out of it.
The rest of the backup team swarmed up to help the others deal with the remaining corpses. Charles Wong was confident they could handle the rest and turned to look at his daughter to check whether she was bitten or not.
It was rather foolish of her to fight recklessly against zombies.
The scowl on his face froze when he saw a pair of eyes filled with grievance and sorrow as they started spilling tears. In a burst of uncontrollable emotion, Wong Xue Guo hugged her father's thick waist in a spontaneous decision, just wanting to be coaxed out of her fear of nearly dying.
To her surprise, Charles Wong did not push her away but neither did he reciprocate her hug. However, he still let her hug him. He only moved her head and limbs around to check for any injury.
Since her father did not push her away, she used all her remaining bravery to shamelessly continue to cling to him like a sticky child, pressing her face onto his hard torso. It was a little hard to breathe, but the familiar cologne worked wonders to calm her agitated emotions. With his presence, it was crazy to think she would be safe, yet her heart insisted and even enslaved her mind to follow its belief.
Her ears strained to listen to every sound but her attention was a little distracted from her father's steady heartbeat. Oh, to think there would be a day where she could hug the Papa Wolf without permission and was not scolded! There was never a memory she could remember that her father had ever hugged her before. Even if there was, she was sure that would be her newborn self.
Could it be that he was only angry when she was close to his wife but does not care when she gets close to him? In conclusion, acting spoiled to Papa Wolf was okay, but do not approach his mate? Their daughter of eighteen years, who was too afraid of getting close to her imposing father, had subconsciously tried to get close to the 'softer' parent, but it only had her step onto Charles Wong's territory!
But what if it would be Suzie Yap's turn to get jealous if her husband and daughter get closer? What happens then? Who will be the victim?
Charles Wong caught his daughter sorrowfully sighing and asked, "Are you bitten?"
She shook her head, treating it as her answer. Pausing for a moment when she noticed there were no obstacles when doing so, she only then realized her spectacles was not seated on her nose.
Who would have thought her spectacles could last for nearly two months post-apocalypse? There was no need to read text these days, but it will be troublesome to identify zombies with her poor eyesight. At least it had fought resiliently alongside her for two months.
When Hong Yan finally found the chance to approach them, Charles Wong immediately shot him a displeased glower. "Hong Yan. Did I not tell you never to let my daughter get in danger?" Wong Xue Guo could feel the tremor as her father spoke.
Hong Yan lowered his head in guilt. "I'm sorry. I was not paying attention."
There was another set of footsteps approaching them. "Uncle Charles, I'm also at fault for not protecting Xue Guo well."
Wong Xue Guo's arms tightened around her father's waist after recognizing Chen Yibo's voice. But she did not react to anything else and chose to play mute and deaf.
Her tiny response was noticed by Charles Wong. He eyed his silent daughter, who was strangely resembling his wife even more when it comes to attitude. Even the way of getting angry at the man she likes was the same.
"Deal with her injuries," Charles Wong grumbled. If this was the man his daughter liked, he would have to accept it.
Besides... The boy was rather similar to the younger him that had just met Suzie Yap.
"Xue Guo, let me deal with your wounds?" Chen Yibo asked tentatively, similar to someone that believed he was in the wrong and wanted to make amends.
Wong Xue Guo knew very well that he was blameless, but the little girl in her heart that stubbornly believed Chen Yibo was hers, was angry that he did not protect her.
When her rationality seized control again, she pulled away from her father's warm chest reluctantly. "Okay."
