XG 128 - Not wanting to lose his hard-earned muscles
Wong Xue Guo went to do another gene activation rate testing, and since Miu was here, they got the result quickly again. Miu had truly worked hard.
The directors and senior researchers gathered for a meeting, including Wong Xue Guo, the subject of their conversation. However, not all were in attendance as most were needed to keep an eye on the beta experiment of gene awakening that had started two days ago.
The question as to why Chen Yibo ate dry biscuits was answered.
The testers needed a lot of food to successfully activate their genes, and most of them tend to eat more than eat less to avoid failing the awakening. Thus, everyone had to prioritize the food for the beta testers, no matter how disheartening it was. As the son of one of the directors and the founder of the lab, Chen Yibo does not need to, but he still kindly volunteered his food.
To Wong Xue Guo's joy, her experiment was a success. Her activation rate had jumped to forty-seven percent!
Director Chen was reading her health report as he shared his thoughts. "Woojin's ability is similar to creating a stimulus similar to a life-threatening event that triggered the Alpha genes naturally. His ability to bring out a person's fear is similar to a person facing dangerous events personally."
Miu had awakened her ability in a car accident, which was the same accident that claimed her parents' lives.
Grandpa Song does not remember exactly when he had gotten his good luck ability but guessed it was from a bad motorcycle accident.
There was no valid justification as to why Wong Xue Guo's activation percentage would increase after being healed by Suzie Yap. It could also be a delayed reaction, unstabilized aftermath of being exposed to Woojin's ability. Either way, they could only wait for Suzie Yap's return before they could test if her ability would be helpful in activating the Alpha gene.
Chen YiWen tapped a copy of Wong Xue Guo's report on the table. "Now, we must take note of any side effects using this method of activation. Currently, Xue Guo has no decline in her physical health, but her bones are getting stronger with her healing speed getting a little bit faster. The most obvious decline would be her mental health."
Everyone in the meeting room immediately turned to look at Wong Xue Guo, who smiled unfazed. "I can withstand it. My mentality isn't that bad. Since my Alpha gene had awakened halfway, it would only be natural to use me to test whether Woojin's ability could completely activate my gene."
"She is indeed right. And she looks fine to me," said Director Choi, also Choi Yerim's grandfather. "It is better to continue using a person that has been exposed to this method halfway than asking another person to try."
Being an eighteen year old and without her guardian around, no one could veto Wong Xue Guo's decision. As for Chin Chun, his silence indicated he did not disapprove of her decision. So Chen Yibo could not prevent her from participating in the experiment. He glanced at his elder brother for help, and only got a tiny head shake.
Even if Wong Xue Guo wanted to immediately fly to her parents to help them, she was more useful in awakening her genes than not. So she decided to patiently finish solving the mystery of gene activating under the exposure of Woojin's ability.
"Woojin is allowed to stay if he agrees to help with the experiment?" Teacher Jang asked in joy. "I will talk to him!"
"Teacher Jang, do make sure he understands that if he refuses, or plans to do something against us after agreeing, we will not spare him and you," Chin Chun notified in advance.
Teacher Jang might be a good guy that sincerely wished to help his student, but he was too soft-hearted and easily agreed to whatever Woojin said. While it was true that Woojin was allowed to have his revenge, that does not excuse him for harming innocent people.
"I know. I will do my best to speak to him."
While waiting to see whether Teacher Jang could get Woojin to work with them, Wong Xue Guo found a good spot to sit and charge her phone at the same time. She opened the family group chat and saw there was a new message from her mother.
Suzie Yap: Baby, mummy and daddy need to deal with something, so we had to leave for a few days. Take this time to rest and don't go out. Chin Chun will handle everything in the lab on our behalf, so don't worry.
If Chin Chun had not told her anything, she would be stewing with worry over where and what her parents were doing.
Xue Guo: Mother, Father, I'm awake. Mother, thank you for healing me.
Xue Guo: Woojin, the student with the ability to evoke fear from a person, was tested to be able to activate the Alpha gene. Currently, elder brother Chin Chun is speaking to Woojin in hopes to get his cooperation.
Her finger paused above the virtual keyboard. Should she say she was the first testing participant?
Anyway, it would be better for her to say it first before others informed them in a brutal manner.
Xue Guo: As my activation gene's rate is currently the highest among those that had yet to participate in the beta test, I'm the selected tester under this new awakening method. Elder brother agreed that I should activate my genes first before flying to Zinnia to meet mother and father.
Xue Guo: We still could not make contact with Grandmother.
Seeing the entire page was covered with her own message, there was a small thought that this group chat was like her tree hole.
Kang Xunsu and L.L. walked out of the testing room and got her attention.
"How is it?" Wong Xue Guo asked curiously.
"I don't have it, Beom Seok does not have it either, but L.L. does not want to awaken his gene," Kang Xunsu said and grabbed the chair beside hers to sit on, finally giving his leg and arms rest from moving around with the crutch. His face had lost some of its colour from the strain.
"Why not?" Wong Xue Guo turned to look at L.L.
Even before, she had known that Kang Xunsu does not want to activate his gene so he does not bother checking whether he has that gene or not. His reason for not wanting to lose his hard-earned muscles was ridiculous.
But as they had been exposed to Woojin's ability, the researchers wanted to check if their gene was activated as Wong Xue Guo's genes do. Besides, Kang Xunsu currently wanted another way to join the frontlines.
"No reason," L.L. said and did not bother elaborating.
"His gene only activated two percent and he does not want to be exposed to Woojin's ability again. He also does not want to use the other method. Scaredy cat," Kang Xunsu teased.
"There's still plenty of time to activate my gene even if I change my mind later," L.L. said.
"How about Nana and others? Are they still choosing not to?" Wong Xue Guo asked.
"Boss' entire gang had gone to Zinnia country so none of them was able to participate in the beta experiment. Some also pulled out their names because of fertility issues."
Wong Xue Guo was speechless. "In this current world, they are still worried about fertility issues?"
Kang Xunsu poked her forehead. "What do you understand anyway, kiddo? Anyway, about your dear Nana, she joined at the last minute and got into an argument with Smoker. The others in the group do not have the gene."
Wong Xue Guo gasped softly and unconsciously lowered her voice. "Did they break up?"
"Not so serious. Smoker will never break up with her."
All of them had known that Nana has the gene while Smoker does not. Nana had chosen not to activate the gene because of that. "So why did Nana change her mind?"
Kang Xunsu sighed. "Isn't that because of your parent's ability? Your father's metal manipulation is so impressive and your mother's healing ability is so awesome. How could it not shake other people's hearts?"
"Talk properly," L.L. told off Kang Xunsu.
"Long story short, she had seen Madam in a distraught state when you got impaled by the thick as heck stick. Nana fears that one day she might be the same as Madam, going crazy with helplessness if anything happened to Smoker. Being worried by his girlfriend had Smoker's manly pride took a great blow from it."
So it could be said that Nana finally signed up for the beta experiment to get stronger to protect Smoker.
"How about Aurora?"
"She doesn't have it either. She had followed Madam to Zinnia." Kang Xunsu's tone was a little off when speaking about Aurora.
Wong Xue Guo recalled that Kang Xunsu got rejected. He seemed to be still sour about the matter and she pretended to not notice it.
"From Madam's case, it was proven that wishing what their ability to be had actually worked in influencing the outcome," L.L said.
After all, in the future timeline, Suzie Yap was supposed to have super strength ability, but now she got healing ability instead.
