XG 133 - You are not afraid of gene overdose?
Once everyone was in attendance, Chen YiWen started the meeting.
"Firstly, these results are obtained from the observation between Director Wong and Madam Suzie's report with Miss Wong. It's also with the help of Madam Miu's ability that we could get Xue Guo and Woojin's health reports ahead of time. If anyone is doubtful about the result, please wait until tomorrow for the actual test result to come out."
"I don't need it." Director Park fought a yawn. "The majority of us had seen how accurate Miu's ability is. Quickly share the result so that everyone can rest and resume working with full energy."
"Director Park is considerate, so let's start with the main points. From what everyone had known, activating the Alpha gene would result in extreme weight loss, getting white hair, stronger bone density and a higher infertility rate. She does not feel extreme hunger either. We will see if the low side effects will continue until her gene activation rate hits 100%."
The researchers from other departments could not resist switching their attention to discussing the new result among themselves, especially regarding the lack of weight loss issue. Their enthusiasm naturally interrupted Chen YiWen's report.
Some female researchers were cheered up as awakening naturally means their infertility rate would not hit rock bottom zero! Although now they were thinking that having children was a burden, that does not mean they wanted to seal that door permanently.
What happens if they regret it in the future?
Even a high school kid could see which gene activation method was more in their favour. Thus, most researchers that had the intention of awakening their gene were siding with Woojin's method.
"Everyone, quiet down! Researcher Chen is not finished yet!" Director Park scolded, slamming the report document onto the table and succeeded in having the meeting room go back to silence.
"Thank you, Director Park. Now, let's talk about Woojin's health report. We had actually done a health check on him once he got here, and the second one after the experimentation with Xue Guo. Between two of his reports, he had lost 3.9 kg. We could not see his hair condition, which he had dyed black to hide the white colour. He also said he feels tired and hungry after the experiment."
Chen YiWen actually feel a little embarrassed that no one had the thought of waiting for Woojin's health report test to come out before having him proceed with the trial experiment. It was even more embarrassing when the test report showed side effects had appeared from Woojin instead of Wong Xue Guo, where the latter was the one being experimented on.
No one had thought Woojin would suffer anything other than exhaustion from using his ability. None of their Awaken people had experienced such symptoms from power overuse.
Chen YiWen looked around, meeting everyone's eyes before saying the last sentence. "His symptoms are similar to a milder version of gene awakening from using the booster gene method."
A researcher took in a sharp breath. "Are you saying the more he uses his ability, the 'weaker' he will get? Or is it the opposite, where his ability is getting stronger?"
"From Mr Vihaan, Madam Miu, and Mr Do, we learned that they feel hungry and tired after using a large amount of ability. It's similar to using too much of our strength. But they did not lose weight like Woojin's case."
"So Woojin is a special case?"
"We can't conclude anything until we have run more similar experiments. But Teacher Jang had told us that Woojin never suffered weight loss when he overused his ability previously, not that they bothered to weigh him with a scale."
A man with a small ponytail and spiky beard raised his hand. "I would like to volunteer to activate my Alpha gene using Woojin's method."
"Researcher Taekwon? You want to start the second experiment without waiting for the first tester to complete it?" Director Choi asked.
"Yes. By now, Tester 1 had already activated more than sixty percent of the Alpha gene and there are no obvious side effects. We will need another tester to do a more detailed comparison."
"Fuck, Taekwon, you are not afraid of gene overdose?" The researcher beside researcher Taekwon blurted out.
"I strongly believe that natural awakening would not cause a gene overdose," Taekwon sounded rather confident. "I also have a strong mentality and I won't be brought down by my fears easily."
Seeing that Taekwon willingly volunteered, it was certainly better than having no one volunteer. The beta testers using the booster gene method had a hundred percent success, but the amount of food each tester consumed was equal to their base's one-week consumption.
It was a truly expensive method!
Wong Xue Guo followed the small team of researchers to Woojin's cell, wanting to see the process.
Kang Xunsu was forced to rest by L.L and since the lab's security was tight, she could go around without a bodyguard. Only Chen Yibo followed her, as Chin Chun was not interested and he had other things to do.
Teacher Jang was feeding Woojin when they arrived. When Woojin heard that there was a second tester, his expression was full of reluctance, but according to the agreement, he had to do his part.
"Can't it be tomorrow?" Teacher Jang asked worriedly, as Woojin still has a headache.
"We need to confirm certain things sooner than later. Just use your ability on Taekwon for at least five minutes will be enough."
"But Woojin is-"
"Teacher, I can do it," Woojin interrupted Teacher Jang's words. "Five minutes is okay. After that, no more."
Woojin does not plan to use his new ability. It should be enough to satisfy these people with his normal ability. He was not ready to share his new ability and he had not even told Teacher Jang about it.
The others also know it was hard for Woojin and did not make more demands.
Wong Xue Guo watched in interest as the experiment started. Taekwon started with a confident expression, but as the process continue on, his expression revealed cracks to unearth the fear underneath. He persisted to uphold his word, but it was just after one minute that he started having cold sweat. The second minute passed and his face and lips were deadly pale.
Reaching the third minute, the monitor let out a warning beep and Woojin let go of Taekwon's hand once a researcher stopped them.
Everyone stared at the trembling Taekwon that had tears in his eyes and then at the unaffected Woojin. Woojin finally felt that things were going right on track when he did not feel worn out from using his ability. However, there was a slight panic when he thought of using his new ability.
Taekwon slowly regained his composure and wiped his tears away. "How long did I last?"
"... Three minutes," his friend answered after a moment of pause. He secretly felt that his buddy had lost his face, as Miss Wong had lasted under Woojin's ability for more than fifteen minutes, and that was the second round on the same day.
As his colleague expected, Taekwon's flimsy confident expression cracked apart after hearing that.
Chen YiWen told Taekwon to do the health test and head to rest before approaching Woojin to ask him questions. Contrary to his state after a session with Wong Xue Guo, Woojin was in a good state and does not feel exhausted. Even his weight remained the same.
In disbelief, another researcher raised her hand to volunteer and Woojin agreed since his condition did not deteriorate from the session with Taekwon.
To their fascination and horror, the female researcher's hair slowly turned white and her chin became a little sharper after lasting a little over four minutes under Woojin's ability. Again, Woojin's condition was the same.
Hana, the female researcher, rubbed her stomach. "I feel very hungry." She was quickly sent to have food after getting samples for her health test.
"Taekwon's gene is activated to 29 percent, there are 12 strands of white hair and he lost 2 kg. Hana's gene had 56 percent activated, lost 5 kg, and about a quarter of her hair turned white."
Wong Xue Guo remained mute for a long time after Chen YiWen reported the result before slowly saying, "So... is there something wrong with me?"
This newfound discovery sparked another intense debate.
