XG 177 - That's the charm of demons
"You only have this choice. Our agreement will be that I teach you how to use your ability well and you will kill Zene for me."
Wong Xue Guo caught on to a word. "Kill? Did you not say my ability will extract your genes from him? There is no need for me to do the deed when there's a long line of people wanting to kill him personally, right? Unless he could regain the gene by absorbing others?"
Scorn flashed across his eyes. "No. Without my gene, he will be unable to absorb any energy. But I want you to kill him with your own hands."
How vengeful.
There had to be more than breaking the contract to have a demon aim for Zene's life.
"Okay. I agree." She will just treat Zene as a zombie. "But if someone killed him before I did, there's nothing I can do, right?"
"If." That smile on his face was one she had never seen on her father. But if it was Charles Wong's gang members that saw it, they would tremble in fear, for it was a smile that would demand blood, sweat and tears from them, pushing them to the limits to complete his demand.
"Let's start with the first lesson now, shall we?"
Wong Xue Guo does not know what to expect from these tutoring lessons, but she certainly did not expect how perfectionist Mr Demon could be. Her newly bloom ego of having inherited the shadow was pummeled repeatedly until she was nearly as humble as a monk.
With no windows in sight, she does not know how many days, weeks or months had passed.
Fortunately, Mr Demon had assured her that when she returned back to her body, only a few seconds would have passed, or else the pressure of learning would kill her first before a zombie could.
Wong Xue Guo, who was a 'only want to pass' student, found it hard to adjust to the fast-facing and high-scoring training. She was satisfied with her result but not her demanding teacher.
She felt like she learned a lot, yet also not much with how many repeats she was forced to do. The one thing she could remember vividly was Mr Demon's voice that keep telling her to do it again, again and again. It was beginning to give her some sort of anxiety.
When Mr Demon finally allow her to 'graduate', she nearly cheered out loud. "Can I leave now?"
"What's the hurry? There's no difference even if you leave a little later."
"There is. My mental health."
Although this palace was huge, grand and dirtless, there was never once she could step out of this place. With no window or door to the outside, she had completely lost track of time and that feeling does not feel good at all. Even when she 'sleep', she only does it once she was exhausted.
She had almost forgotten the sounds of birds chirping, vehicles passing by and the smell of forest! This place gave her a suffocatingly trapped feeling that will drive her crazy.
Her guts told her that if she did not leave now, Mr Demon might tell her to stay longer and practise her already good skills to the master level!
"Humans and their fragile minds. You heard her?"
"What-" Wong Xue Guo suddenly disappeared from the place, her consciousness returned back to her body.
Mr Demon turned to an empty space. "You could have introduced yourself to her before sending her away."
The space Mr Demon was staring at distorted and a person in entirely white appeared. This person's gender could not be distinguished, with a pair of large white wings tucked in. The appearance of the Angel forcefully dispelled Mr Demon's disguise as 'Charles Wong'.
His real appearance was the polar opposite of the Angel, a mass of pitch black fog enveloped his pearly white skeleton like a long robe and pitch black marble eyes.
"There isn't a need to reveal me to her. Now that she left, I'm going to close this space."
With only Mr Demon's ability, he could not create this space for a human soul to interact with higher beings without getting severely injured. The Angel would be in charge of stabilizing this space, while the Demon pulled Wong Xue Guo's mind over to this space. That was why she sensed contradiction around the place, wrongly assuming that the grand decoration was to lower her guard.
"Did you not agree to work with the devil so that your little lambs can be saved?"
"There is no longer a need to."
"You are not collecting your part of the benefit in this contract? What a surprise."
"Sooner or later, she will save them at her own will." If God was not sure that Wong Xue Guo's character was not bad, he would not let the angel help her and the demon meet.
"Sooner or later? Your devotee will die or commit sin way before she reaches them. They are countries away from each other." Mr Demon snapped his skeleton fingers as if enlightened. "Could it be you found another loophole?"
Although Angels were beings that do not express their emotions, forever upright and forgiving, Mr Demon could still feel the disgust emitting from the angel's impassive face.
It was always fun to poke the pure beings' sore spots.
"Don't compare us with demons that test every single rule available," the angel said coldly.
Just as demons could not step onto the human realm, so did the Gods. It was to avoid unbalancing the scale and to prevent any forces to interrupt human natural development.
The previous disaster that wiped out nearly half of the human population should have taught them a lesson, but the demons never learned the right things. Not only that, the latest trouble they created was even deadlier and spread faster than a pandemic, wiping out forty-seven percent of the human population in less than half a year.
There was no sign of the disaster stopping at all.
It was the demons that discovered the first loophole and corrupted humans with their malicious whispers. It was also them that brought up the idea of having humans themselves protect the human realm, using this demon's flesh that was previously shared with a human that was the cause of the latest trouble to be used as the weapon against it.
This happened all because of the demons' fault but the Gods had to help in fixing things.
"But you lots are thankful that we did, or else the humans will perish," Mr Demon said without a hint of remorse for what he had caused.
If not because both Gods and Demons do not wish for humans to face extinction, they would not have worked together temporarily. After all, the Gods had urged every being in Heaven to find a way to save the humans, just as Hades was nearly about to boil Mr Demon's skull as soup condiment.
As a demon, it was praiseworthy that he brought so many negative emotions for his fellow hell beings to feed, but this was forcing humans into extinction! How could they taste such delicious emotions again if there was no more human? Ask the Gods to create more humans after the purge? Start human civilization all over again?
Hades nearly turn Hell into Iceland from thinking how long it would take again for humans to start breeding, use their brains and learn about the seven sins.
If that was not the only trouble, those beings from Heaven also figured out that demons have other ways to reach out to humans that they do not know of. Demons were now under tighter scrutiny, and ready to be stopped if they were caught.
"A typical selfishness of a demon," the angel frowned.
The angel was honest with his feelings, while the demon made an attempt to conceal them with a decent front, but at the same time purposely disgusts the angel with his fake friendly approach.
"That's the charm of demons."
"After the humans are saved, we will properly settle the account of your sin of sharing your flesh with a human." The angel no longer want to stay around and disappeared from the space, his task from God had been completed. His disappearance had the entire space to collapse.
Floating in an empty space without a speck of light, Mr Demon scratched his chin with his sharp fingernails. "Is it the time for Heaven and Hell's annual sparring?"
