Chapter 668:
Caught in the act, Marina halted, turned slowly, and managed a strained smile. âJust heading up to change, Kyson, no big deal.â
Her weak explanation did little to assuage Kysonâs growing suspicions of her involvement in the ordeal Kristopher was alluding to. His brow furrowed. âCome back down.ânoveldrama
Despite his youthful looks, Kyson commanded authority as a school principal and now looked particularly formidable.
Marina protested weakly. âKyson!â
Yet, Kyson remained firm, his voice chilling, saying, âReturn here now.â With great reluctance, Marina made her way back down, each step seeming to weigh her down.
Upon reaching the bottom, Kyson addressed Carrie directly, saying, âWho locked you in the bathroom? I can represent your interests to the Webster family.â
Carrie caught the hostile look in Marinaâs eyes, confirming her earlier doubtsâMarina was indeed as reckless as she appeared.
Feeling no need to protect anyone, Carrie detailed the entire ordeal calmly. After she finished, Kristopher chimed in, âIf I hadnât come along when I did, she might well have ended up unconscious.â
Horrified upon hearing of Carrieâs fall from the third floor, Reece and Arion rushed to her side and meticulously checked her for injuries.
To their amazement, she appeared completely unharmed, yet Reeceâs face was still etched with worry. âWeâre leaving for a CT scan right now.â
Carrie flexed her arms and legs, chuckling. âReece, look at me, Iâm totally fine. Heâs just overreacting.â
She avoided mentioning Kristopher by name, instead referring to him simply as âhe.â
For once, the Morrison brothers agreed with Kristopher. âBeing cautious isnât an overreaction! Head injuries are serious!â
Love sometimes felt burdensome. To her cousins, she seemed more breakable than glass.
Carrie stood her ground. âTrust me, Iâm okay! Iâm not fragile, and besides, I landed on Kristopher. Heâd be in worse shape if anyone was hurt.â
She feared this incident might lead her cousins to overprotect her even more.
Arion looked over at Kristopher, saying, âHeâs tough. Youâre not built like him.â At a loss for words, Carrie could only marvel at her cousinâs glaring double standards.
Meanwhile, Marina, joining Kyson, voiced her skepticism. âHow is that overreacting? It was only from the third floor. Sheâs a country girl, used to handling much tougher situations.â
Kristopherâs response was a slow, cold glare at Marina.
A cold smirk appeared on his face, though his eyes remained detached. In a chilling tone, he said, âMiss Webster, if you believe itâs an exaggeration, why donât we go there now? You can experience a headfirst fall yourself.â His tone was cold, carrying an implicit threat.
Marina flinched, turning to find Daxtonâs icy stare fixed on her as well. The sensation sent a shiver down her spine, prompting visions of Daxton looming in her mind.
