Chapter 669:
Fear washed over her, draining the color from her face. She quickly retreated behind Kyson, gripping his suit sleeve tightly.
She wondered how Carrie had managed to win over such formidable allies. At the same time, she secretly rejoiced that she had not listened to Alizaâs suggestion to find a man to ruin Carrieâs reputation.
The Webster family was deeply involved in both business and education, upholding a strict code of conduct. While Marina often acted the part of the pampered heiress, she harbored no true malice.
Her intent had merely been to frighten Carrie as a form of reprimand.
Kyson firmly pulled Marina from behind him, his expression stern. âMarina, are you involved in this?â
Marinaâs gaze shifted nervously. âIâve been upstairs all this time. How could I know what happened to her?â
Kyson saw through her evasion. He turned to his assistant, instructing, âCheck the security footage. Find out which maid escorted Ms. Campbell upstairs.â As he spoke, he gave Marina a piercing look, his voice harsh. âI offered you a chance to confess. If you wonât, and I find out, youâll be sent back to Izrosa permanently. Our family does not harbor such malice.â
Marina stared at Kyson in shock, her eyes welling up as she protested, âKyson, Iâm your sister! How can you side with her over me? Sheâs not even hurt. Why should I be exiled to Izrosa?â

Though his expression remained stern, Kysonâs voice softened slightly. âMistakes I can forgive, consequences I can handle. But I cannot stand by as you continually err and weave lies upon lies.â
Marinaâs emotions, stretched to their limit, finally broke.
Tears streamed down her face as she threw herself into Kysonâs arms. Kyson embraced her gently, stroking the back of her head to calm her trembling frame. âDonât be afraid,â he murmured. âIâm here for you.â
Once Marinaâs sobs quieted slightly, Kyson lifted his gaze to meet Carrieâs, his expression solemn. âMs. Campbell, Iâm not excusing Marinaâs behavior. Sheâs always been a bit naive and could never come up with such a malicious plan on her own. Iâll investigate this matter thoroughly, and once I have the full picture, Iâll personally bring her to the Morrison family to apologize.â
Marina peeked out from Kysonâs arms, her face streaked with tears and a hint of defiance. âI only wanted to scare her a little,â she said, her voice breaking. âWho knew sheâd try climbing out the window? If sheâd just stayed put for a while, I wouldâve let her out after the banquet ended.â Her words, though tearful, were a clear admission of guilt.
Carrieâs face remained calm, her voice even as she replied, âForget it. I didnât really lose anything. Letâs just move on.â
Marinaâs sheltered upbringing was evident. She was a classic example of a naive young lady who lacked the awareness to grasp the consequences of her actions.
But Carrie suspected someone else had orchestrated this incident. Her thoughts circled around Aliza.
Carrieâs eyes flicked toward Kristopher, rolling slightly in exasperation. Somehow, everything always seemed to circle back to him.
Reece, however, wasnât as forgiving. His cold gaze settled on Marina, his tone sharp and cutting. âI told you that Carrie is my cousin. Yet, you still treated her this way. Do you have a problem with me?â
