Chapter 25: Chapter 21

The billionaire's ex-wife✓Words: 8118

Xavier's POV

I read the letter again processing the words. The more I read it, the more I doubted.

Cassie would never do this, she wouldn't just leave like this. I needed to find out what happened to her. I was going to get to the bottom of this. Two days had already passed and I hadn't had any sleep at all, I couldn't stop thinking about her.

Was she safe? Was she alright? No one knew.

We had already filed a missing report and the police were doing everything they could to find her.

I hired a private investigator whom I have a meeting with any moment from now.

If she really did leave me, I wanted her to face me and ask her why. After everything, I deserve an explanation.

The door bell rang interrupting me from my train of thoughts.

'Maybe it was the private investigator,'

I placed my fork on the counter walking to the door.

Opening the door, I saw a face I regretted.

Layla was standing in front of me wearing her usual tight skirt and a top that looked two sizes too small.

"What do you want?" I asked annoyed.

I have a lot on my plate, talking to her was the last thing I wanted.

"I just came to see you, baby. I miss you." she said.

I exhaled frustrated.

"I told you it's over, how do you even know where I live." I said in a clinical tone.

"You are one of the richest men in town. It's easy to find you." she said sarcastically.

"Fine, goodbye." I said

I was about to shut the door in your face but she stopped it with her foot, she pushed her way through the small space entering the house.

"I just want to say something important," she said quickly.

I had asked her to leave politely and now she had the nerves to enter my house.

"I want you out!" I yelled.

"Give me one minute," she pleaded.

Layla was a very persistent person, arguing with her to leave was not going to make her leave any sooner.

"You have 15 seconds," I said looking at my watch.

She smirked at me victoriously, I'm mentally rolled my eyes at her.

"I heard what Cassie did to you," she said working towards me seductively. "She is such a whore, I told you low-class whores couldn't be trusted..." She said.

I looked at her with a serious expression, planning a murder scheme in my mind.

She had the nerve to even show up after everything let alone talk trash about Cassie like this.

"I want you back, we were so good together. I miss that, I know you miss that " she continued. "I have what it takes to show you a good time, just let me make it up to you." She placed her arms around my neck.

"I want you to get out," I said moving her hands away.

"What? You just going to throw away an opportunity like this, because of that low life." She yelled.

"What you are is an opportunist, it's over between us. Cassie is the only woman I've ever been in love with, can't you understand that!" I yelled

"Xavier James Kingsley, I promise you going to regret this." she threatened.

"Just get out," I said

I opened the door wide for her to get out.

She glared at me before walking out dramatically.

I told her on countless occasions that it was over but she just couldn't get that through her brain.

I walked to the living room picking up the letter again. I know this will only make me think more about her but I couldn't help it. I was addicted to her. This was the only memory I had left of her.

Daniel barged into the house, a few guys following after him.

I had just finished a meeting with a private investigator. He was just as useless. He seemed to know only as much as we did.

No one knew where she was or heard from her, for all we know she could have been out of the country.

Daniel was holding a folder wearing a serious expression.

I placed the glass of whiskey on the side, standing up from my seat.

"Did you find any information?" I asked.

"Yes, I ordered a handwriting analysis for that letter." He paused. His expression suddenly changing. "It's possible that someone else wrote that letter. I think she could be in danger." He said.

I felt my soul drop.

How could I have possibly thought that she would have done such a thing. Once again, I allowed the doubt to take over. All this while someone could have possibly kidnapped her and I was too busy allowing that letter to consume me.

"I have my best guys looking for her along with every police department in the city. I can assure you that in 48 hours you'll have her here." Daniel said

Two of the guys Daniel walked in with went into the room she was last seen in to try and get any clues about her disappearance.

I picked up the glass of whiskey, throwing it on to the floor in frustration

"You need to calm down Xavier," Daniel said.

"How can I, Cassie along with my unborn children could possibly be in danger. It's been 2 days!" I yelled.

Daniel's phone rang, he looked at the screen, an eyebrow raised.

He answered the phone stepping away.

"Hello," he said answering the phone. He listened to the caller nodding his head.

"It's the head of the Police department, I think you should talk to him." Daniel said handing me his phone.

I grabbed the phone out of his hands then answered the call.

"Mr Kingsley, we have--" he started.

"I don't care about whatever you have to say!  I just want you to find my wife. I'm giving you four hours." I yelled into the phone.

I hung up the phone then handed it back to Daniel.

Daniel shook his head at me in disbelief.

I should have never left her side.

I always manage to f**k things up.

'Could my mother have gone this far. I knew she wasn't one to give up easily,'

Whom ever responsible for this was going to pay for it.

My phone rang bringing me out of my thoughts.

I walked to the kitchen ignoring the call.

I was starting to feel light-headed and dizzy so I made myself a cup of coffee instead to boost my energy. I could hardly close my eyes for 2 seconds. How could I even think of sleeping when my children could be in danger.

"Coffee is bad for you," Daniel said sarcastically.

"I need it, it's only my fifth cup today." I said honestly.

"It's only 12:00." He said looking at his watch. "You shouldn't drink that much."

I ignored his comment walking back into the living room. My cellphone was still ringing.

Anyone important would call me on my house line.

"You should answer that," Daniel said.

"It's no one important," I said.

The phone continued to ring. After a couple of minutes I was certain this person wasn't going to give up until I answered the phone.

The ringtone was getting really annoying.

I grabbed my phone off the counter. I looked at the screen to see it was a private number. Suddenly I felt a cold chill down my spine.

"Who is this," I answered the phone nonchalantly.

"Xavier," the caller said softly.

Immediately I recognised her voice.

It was Cassie, her voice sounded beaten down and out of life.

"Cassie, how are you." I said I felt the adrenaline coursing through my veins as her voice brought me back to life.

"I'm great," she answered. I could hear the sadness in her voice.

"Where are you? I'll come and get you now." I said

"That's what I'm calling you about," she paused. She exhaled deeply as I waited impatiently to hear her voice again.

"I want you to stop looking for me," She said.

Suddenly my heart stopped at her words. I had definitely heard wrong.

"What?," I said softly

Daniel looked at me arms folded, listening in on our conversation.

"I want you to stop looking for me Xavier. I don't want to be found. Wasn't that letter enough for you. Why won't you just let me be happy," she snapped.

My heart broke into pieces listening to her.

"Cassie, you don't mean that. Please just come home, everything will be alright. Our children---"

"They were never yours," she interrupted. "Just leave me alone. You are the cause of everything wrong in my life." She said.

She quickly hung up the phone before I could respond.

The phone fell out of my hands onto the floor.

I had just heard it, all the hope I had left in me was crashed into pieces.
