Having Colby not around was starting to really take a toll on me.
Weeks turned to a month and I hardly saw him. By the time he would get home to me he would be so tired that we would hardly talk.
Some nights Sam and Kat would go to a hotel so Colby could at least sleep in the same bed as me but things were different.
I was terrified that Colby was pulling away from me again. I was scared he was going to leave me a note saying he couldn't do this anymore.
I was afraid he was going to continue working over time and that we would split up from it.
"Hey, Jules." Sam said as he walked into the bedroom. I was having some alone time, which I had more often now.
I tried to not let it show how upset I was about Colby's absence. It was not only annoying to be whiney and complaining to people who were far away from their homes.
Sam and Kat sacrificed so much to be here, it would be horrible to complain to them.
"Hey." I said quietly and looked up at him. "You doing okay? We haven't seen you much." He said as I nodded. "I'm fine." I said with a sigh.
"You know you can talk to us, right?" He asked as I nodded. "Yeah, I know." I said and pulled my knees to my chest.
"So what's up?" He asked and sat on the bed next to me. "I just miss Colby." I said with a shrug. "It's nothing." I said causing him to sigh.
"It's not nothing. It's understandable since you haven't really seen him in the past month." He said as I nodded.
"It just feels like he's pulling back again." I said and looked up at him. "I know it seems that way but he's not gonna leave you again." Sam said gently.
"You'd prepare me if he was..right?" I asked as he nodded. "I would. He told me that leaving you was the worst mistake he's ever made. He may be dumb sometimes but he won't make that same mistake twice." He explained as Kat came into the room.
"Hey, your phone is ringing." She said and held up Sam's phone. "Shit." He said then brought the phone up to his ear.
"Hey. Yeah. Okay, give me just a minute." Sam said then stood up and left the room. "That was weird right?" I asked and looked up at Kat.
"I don't question anything anymore." She said with a laugh then sat on the bed next to me.
"You've been quiet lately. Are you doing okay?" She asked as I nodded. "Yeah. I guess I'm getting cabin fever." I said causing her to laugh.
"Tell me about it, girl. I wish we could go and adventure." She said and laid back on the bed.
"Yeah, maybe one day we can. I'm sorry you're forced to stay here away from everyone." I said as she shook her head.
"Don't feel bad, Jules. I'm so glad we are getting to spend time together, I just wish the other girls were here too." She said with a sigh.
"I miss them all." I said as Sam came back into the room.
"Everything okay?" I asked as Sam nodded. "Yeah, Colby is on his way back." He said, causing my heart to flutter slightly.
It was almost nighttime but wasn't nearly as late as he usually was so I was very excited to see him.
"You're so in love." Kat said with a laugh. "Look at the goofy look on her face." Sam said and pointed to me.
"He's coming home early enough for us to actually hang out. I'm excited. Sue me." I said and crossed my arms.
"We're staying at the hotel tonight, so get your stuff collected." Sam said and put his hand on Kat's head.
"Ooooo. Okay!" She said then got up and left the room. "You're acting strange." I said and squinted at Sam.
"Not trying to be. I just want her to get everything together since Colby will be here soon." He explained.
"Right." I said as he chuckled and patted my leg. "You worry too much." He said as I nodded. "Do you blame me?" I asked as he shook his head.
"Not at all." He said as Colby walked into the bedroom. "Hi, sweetheart." Colby said and walked up to me.
"You're back so early!" I said and hugged him. "I wouldn't say ten is early, but okay." He said as Sam stood up.
"Have fun guys, we'll see you later." He said then turned to leave.
"Bye, Sam. Thanks for keeping me company." I said as he waved and left.
"I know you're excited I'm back, but I'm really tired." Colby said and brushed my hair behind my ear.
I tried to not let the disappointment show but my heart sank at those words.
"Yeah..we can just lay in bed until you fall asleep." I said as he sighed. "I'm sorry, Jules." He said quietly as I shrugged and sat on the bed again.
"It's okay. Come here." I said and patted the bed next to me. I watched as his face softened before he pulled his shirt off so he could lay next to me.
"You're the best, you know that?" He asked as I sighed, letting him pull me into his chest. "I'm trying." I hummed and rested my head on his chest.
"I just need to be well rested because we're going on a little trip tomorrow." He said causing me to scrunch my brow and look up at him.
"What?" I asked as a grin formed on his face. "Yeah. So I need you to pack yourself a bag in the morning before we leave. Can you do that?" He asked as I nodded.
"Yeah. I can do that." I said as he kissed my forehead.
"Where are we going?" I asked as he yawned. "Too tired. See you in the morning, darling." He said then closed his eyes.
I chuckled then snuggled into him a little more. I didn't know if I would be able to sleep, knowing Colby and I would be taking a trip in the morning.
If we're being honest, I didn't give a fuck where we were going. I could be brought anywhere as long as Colby felt it was safe and if he was with me.
I ended up laying awake for most of the night while Colby slept next to me.
I thought it was funny how he was able to peacefully sleep while I was laying awake, thoughts circulating my mind.
Before I knew it the sun was up and Colby was waking up.
"Good morning, beautiful." He said with a gravely voice. "Good morning." I whispered and looked up at him.
"How long have you been awake?" He asked with an amused tone. "Never slept." I said with a laugh.
"Excited about our trip?" He asked as I nodded. "I'm gonna pack." I said and started to sit up, only to be pulled back down.
"I just wanna lay with you for a second." He said and held me close.
"No fair." I pouted, looking up at him. "Only a couple minutes." He hummed, running his fingers up and down my arm.
It felt good to be able to lay in bed with Colby without him getting up in a rush to go to work.
Sure, I wanted to get on the road to go on our little trip, but I was perfectly content with staying in bed with Colby.
We laid together for a while before it was time to get up and start packing.
I didn't really know what to bring or how much stuff I needed, but I did my best as guessing.
Once we were both packed and ready, we made our way down to the car.
"Are we sure this is totally safe?" I asked as Colby nodded. "I'm one hundred percent certain it is safe." He said with a certainty that even I couldn't question.
"How far is this place?" I asked as we got in the car. "Nice try." Colby said with a grin before starting the car.
"It's already a surprise, you can just tell me." I said as he shook his head. "I don't really know how long it's gonna take to get there. I have to take a couple extra turns to make sure nobody is following." He explained.
"Where are we going?" I asked as he reached for my hand.
"Somewhere. Just us two." He said causing me to smile.
It has been so long since we have gone away together, and I was beyond excited.
I decided to not ask any more questions, there was truly no point to it because I knew Colby wouldn't tell me.
We drove for a long time, probably five hours, before we pulled up to a very familiar house.
The house that I knew as home in Spokane, Washington.
