Colby's POV
"You really didn't have to come." I said as I grabbed my keys. "Yeah, I really did." Sam said and followed me out of my apartment.
"I've been doing only boring things like staking out. You're going to have no fun." I said and made my way to the elevator.
"You know that's not why I'm here." He said with a sigh.
"I'm fine, Sam. Totally fine. Already over it." I said as he squinted. "Keep telling yourself that." Sam mumbled.
I knew he wasn't going to let up on me, but I really just had to get over it.
I deserved to be left by Julia after everything I did to her. It wasn't fair to keep her hostage when there was no end in sight.
Sam and I made our way to base then we went to my office. "Can I see the note?" Sam asked as he sat in the chair Julia usually sat in.
"Here." I said then slid it to him, keeping my eyes on my computer.
"Something doesn't seem right about this." Sam hummed after a couple minutes.
"She left, Sam. Just drop it." I said and started working on my computer.
"Did you even like...check the cameras or anything?" Sam asked causing me to groan. "Sam, stop it!" I snapped.
"No, Colby! You know Julia. You know how much she loved you and I know it would kill you if something happened you her." He said angrily.
"Fine. We'll check the cameras and you'll see that she fucking left. Then you can leave me the fuck alone." I said then pulled up the footage.
We watched the footage from outside of my office for a while before we saw Julia leaving the room and walking down the hallway.
"See?" I asked as Sam narrowed his eyes. "It just doesn't make sense." He mumbled as I rolled my eyes.
"She never forgave me and used me to hurt me. I don't understand what you're missing. I got her a phone and she fled." I said then went to go back to work.
"Maybe Kat can talk to her. Let me call her." Sam said as I rolled my eyes. "Whatever makes you happy." I grumbled then focused again.
"Hey, babe." Sam said into the phone after a couple minutes. "Yeah, I'm safe. I had a question." He said as I clenched my jaw, focusing on the computer in front of me.
"Have you talked to Jules today?" He asked as my heart jolted.
I hated how insanely in love I was with her. Even the mention of her name had me grabbing my chest from the pain.
"Really?" Sam asked with concern then looked up at me. "Hold on. Let me put you on speaker phone." He said then put Kat on speaker.
"Okay. What was she telling you?" Sam asked as I sighed and leaned back in my chair. "She was talking about how in love she was with Colby." Kat said as my jaw clenched.
"She didn't mention anything about leaving?" Sam asked. "No. Not even a little bit." Kat said as I sighed.
"She wouldn't have mentioned it, now stop talking about her or I'll kick you out." I said blandly then turned towards my computer again.
I was annoyed that Sam came here just to try and convince me to put my life and Julia's life on the line.
I wanted to look for her and not stop until I found her but it wasn't how this worked.
Julia knew that I couldn't chase after her.
I ended up zoning out, ignoring Sam and Kat since they were talking about Julia.
Once I was done with my work I stood up and looked at Sam.
"Are you coming?" I asked as he sighed. "Yeah, I guess." He said then stood up. "Are you really mad at me?" I asked as he shook his head.
"I'm just confused by you, man." Sam said with a sigh. "What do you mean?" I asked and leaned against the wall.
"You're madly in love with Julia and would do anything to protect her, but all the sudden you don't care enough to make sure she's okay." Sam said as I shook my head.
"The note is written in her handwriting. She obviously wrote it and left for whatever reason. I was madly in love with her when I left her, but I still did it." I said and crossed my arms.
"I guess you're right." Sam said with a sigh then put his phone in his pocket. "Great. Now drop it." I said then left the room.
Sam was always more optimistic about situations like this. He probably told Julia that it was a mistake and that I wouldn't actually do what I did.
I did do it though, and Julia did it right back.
I couldn't blame her. She was constantly in fear and was always in danger when she was with me.
Granted, she was probably in way more danger being alone but once again she knew the repercussions and I had to respect her decision to leave.
No matter how badly it hurt.
"Jeremy." I grumbled and knocked on his door. "Here." He said and opened it a couple seconds later.
"Sam is joining us today." I said blandly as he nodded. "The more the merrier. Thought you would at least take one day off." Jeremy said as I shook my head.
"Why on earth would I take a day off?" I asked with annoyance. I probably should have taken a day off but that would only encourage a mopey day and there wasn't time for that.
Adam was still on the loose.
"No reason." Jeremy said as we walked down the hallway. Jeremy was always a lot smarter than the other idiots that worked for me.
He knew when to push me and when to leave me the fuck alone.
When we got to the car I started driving us to our post for the day.
We were going to a junk yard that Adam was seen at often. I didn't know what he did here, but I didn't necessarily care.
As soon as we got there, I called Will since he was supposed to be on his post too. "Mr. Brock." He answered after a couple of rings.
"Are you stationed at your post?" I asked and kept my eyes focused on the junk yard in front of me.
"Yes, sir. He hasn't been spotted thus far." He said as I nodded. "I'll meet you at your post later. We need to discuss out next step." I said then looked over at Jeremy.
"Okay. Sounds good." Will said as I nodded and hung up. "I don't like him." Sam said from the back seat. "He's fine." I said and kept my eyes straight.
I have had my suspicions on Will in the past but he has proved that he can be trusted after extensive searching and questioning.
He was just kinda bad at his job.
We sat in silence watching for a while before Sam finally spoke. "I can't keep doing this." He said as I narrowed my eyes. "Nobody told you that you had to stay." I grumbled.
"No. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Julia ran away. I cannot believe you're just ignoring it." Sam said as I groaned and turned around to face him.
"Fuck off, Sam! You saw all the evidence yourself now just fucking drop it!" I yelled as he shook his head.
"Do you want me to fucking chase after her and do exactly what they want?! Is that what you want?!" I asked angrily.
"I want you to give a shit. That's all I want." Sam said as I breathed an angry laugh. "Do you think I'm just feeling nothing inside? I'm fucking hurt!" I said then clenched my jaw.
"Julia leaving me is fucking killing me but there isn't anything I can do about it, so just fucking leave it alone!!" I yelled as he glared at me.
"Suffer in silence then." He said and crossed his arms, looking away from me.
I didn't care that I pissed him off because he was pissing me the fuck off. Julia leaving was singlehandedly the most painful thing I have been through.
We fought so hard to be together so the fact that there was a possibility that it meant nothing to her and that she was just wanting to hurt me as bad as I hurt her, made my heart ache.
Part of me couldn't believe she would do that because she wasn't malicious like that, but she was really hard headed and it took her a long ass time to forgive me for doing it to her.
It was a possibility that she never forgave me to begin with.
