Sam's POV

"What are you doing?" I asked as Colby paced his office, a cigarette between his lips.

"Thinking." He mumbled and continued walking. "That's unusual." I said with a laugh. "Ha." He said then looked over at me.

"What are you thinking about?" I asked and raised my brows. "I think we should have a party." He said causing me to squint.

"A party for what?" I asked as he shrugged. "We're clearly getting nowhere with trying to find Adam. Maybe a party will draw him in." He said as I sighed.

It has been nearly a week since Julia 'left' Colby. He likes to think that he's fine about what happened, but I know something was wrong.

I knew it was killing him that she was gone and this party was going to be a distraction for him.

I wished that he was more concerned about the fact that Julia left so suddenly but I couldn't make him admit it.

It had to have been destroying him.

"You really think a party is a good idea? Shouldn't we trying to get Jules back?" I asked as his jaw clenched.

"Sam." He said causing me to roll my eyes. "Colby." I said and and squinted at him.

"You're gonna get punched in the face if you don't stop." He said as I chuckled. "Do it." I hummed, knowing he wouldn't.

"Why do you care so much, Sam? You didn't stop me when I wanted to do the same thing." He said as I nodded.

"Yeah, and you warned people that you were doing it. Julia was telling Kat how much she loved you hours before she left you. It doesn't make any fucking sense." I said as he clenched his jaw.

"I bought her a phone, Sam. She took it to get away." He explained as I nodded. "Track her phone then. Prove that she ran away." I said as he groaned.

"Fine." He said then grabbed his phone. He typed into it for a second before he raised it to face me.

"See. Spokane." He grumbled, showing me that her phone was tracking in Spokane.

I felt my heart sink slightly, knowing that I was wrong.

Julia really did just leave.

"Okay. Sorry." I said then sat back in my seat. "You should be." He said then sat down.

"I'm thinking a party on Saturday." Colby said, changing the subject. "Sounds good." I said then grabbed my phone.

I couldn't believe that Julia would leave Colby like this. Something still felt off about the situation, but just like last time, I had to let it go.

It wasn't my relationship so it shouldn't effect me like this.

"If you want to invite your gang and the girls, feel free." Colby said as I nodded. "Don't be mad at me, man." He said causing me to sigh.

"I'm not mad at you." I said quietly. "Something just doesn't seem right. I know you don't want to talk about it but I can't shake it." I said with a sigh.

"Yeah. Even if something else was going on I still can't go searching for her. She knows that. As much as it's killing me, I can't put her more at risk than she's already in." He said then closed his eyes.

"What if she's in trouble, though?" I asked as he shrugged.

"She made it back to Spokane. I'm sure she's trying to settle back into a normal life. I don't blame her." He said then cleared his throat.

"Anyways. We should probably go out and look for Adam." He said and stood up. "Okay." I said then stood up.

I couldn't understand how he was being so calm about all of this but I had to assume that it was because he loved her so much that he would sacrifice his happiness for her to feel free.

I couldn't blame him.

I was spent the rest of the day going around town, trying to find Adam. When we finally found him, we followed him around until we decided to meet up with Will.

"Mr. Brock." Will said with a nod as we walked up to him. "How have things been?" Colby asked with a serious tone.

"He seems to be preoccupied with things.  Never stays in the same spot for too long." Will said as Colby nodded.

"I want to capture him soon. I'm getting impatient." Colby said as I nodded. "He's been teasing you guys for too long." I said causing Will to laugh.

"He's a little shit. When do you wanna grab him?" Will asked as Colby sighed. "We're having a party on Saturday. So, after that." He said with a nod.

"A party for what?" Will asked as Colby shrugged. "I don't know. I've been bored." He said then crossed his arms.

"Good enough reason." Will said as his phone rang. He sighed and looked at it, hanging it up instead of answering it.

"Who was that?" Colby asked lowly. "Jeremy. I'll call him back when we are done." Will said as colbh squinted at him.

"Why would Jeremy be callling you?" He asked as Will shrugged. "We've known eachother for a while. Sometimes he calls just to talk." Will said as Colby nodded.

"Alright. I'll see you tomorrow." He said then looked at me. "Let's go." He said then led the way to the car.

"Do you trust him?" I asked as we got in the car. "About as far as I could throw him." Colby mumbled and watched him.

"Are we following him?" I asked as he nodded. "You know me so well." He said with a laugh.

We spent the next couple hours following Will around. He surprisingly didn't do much, but he stopped at a big house that Colby didn't recognize.

"What's he doing?" I asked as we watched him walk to the front door. "I don't know. This could be on the drug route. Looks like a nice house." Colby said as he intensely looked at the house.

Will went inside for a couple minutes before coming out again.

"Drug run." Colby said with a nod then sighed. "I'm bored with this." He said then looked over at me. "How long are you staying?" He asked as I shrugged.

"Whenever you want me to leave. I'm worried about you." I said as he chuckled.

"I'll be okay, as long as she's happy then I'm okay." Colby said with a sigh. I knew he was trying to actually mean that, but I could tell he was hurting.

I couldn't blame him but it was hard to believe that he was okay with this.

Even if Julia was safe and sound at her house in Spokane, it didn't mean she was out of danger.

No matter what, she was going to be targeted. There were too many people who were out to get Colby and she was the easiest way to get to him.

I understood that he was trying to show the crime world that he didn't care but if he knew that someone was after Julia he would do anything to protect her.

That's why he was shutting this whole thing down.

He couldn't show any remorse and he had to try and prove to everyone that they were done.

Julia left him and he couldn't chase after her even though he fully wanted to.

"How would you feel about me sending someone to check on Julia?" I asked causing him to sigh.

He was contemplating it in his head before he slowly nodded.

"Yeah. Don't have them talk to her or make her aware of their presence...someone just needs to make sure she's safe." He said after a minute.

"Of course. I'll send them to check this weekend since it's a crazy week without me there." I said then started texting Jake to let someone know that was the plan.

"You don't have to stay here with me, ya know." Colby said as I nodded.

"I know. I just care about you and hate to admit it but I miss your smart ass mouth." He said causing me to laugh.

"I don't know what you're talking about." He said with a serious tone. "Yeah, okay." I said sarcastically.

I loved the relationship Colby and I had. We had been best friends for a long time and I knew he would do anything for me.

And I would do anything for him.
