âCan you take me to the two people after the Antique Fair ends?â Casper suggested.
Victoria shifted her gaze onto Casperâs face and scrutinized it. âWhere is that pretty secretary of yours?
Why didnât you bring her along?â
Casper coughed several times. âThere might be chaos today. I didnât bring her along because Iâm worried sheâll be in danger.â He was feeling a little fearful. Victoria canât fancy Elena, right?
Victoria pulled out a delicate hand fan and fanned herself. âOh, you care about your secretary so much.
Why donât I see you treating me so well?â
Casper was covered in sweat at that point. âWerenât you the one who stayed here willingly? And Iâm staying here by your side to give you full protection.â
Suddenly recalling Victoriaâs identity, he wondered if he should pop the question that was on his mind.
âGive me full protection? Casper, youâre so scrawny and weak. How powerful can you be?â Victoria teased, poking her finger into Casperâs chest and feeling his chest muscles.
Of course, she meant that as a joke. It was impossible for a member of a gang who could take down the entire Firewolf Chamber of Commerce to be a useless person.
Casper, whose chest had been touched by her, did not know what to feel. Am I benefiting from this or am I being taken advantage of?
âYou know what? Youâre so handsome that I bet no one will realize your real gender if you dressed up as a woman,â Victoria added.
âCome on. Donât make such jokes, Ms. Stalling. Why would a guy like me dress up like a woman?â
Victoria said, âI didnât expect you to be such an old-fashioned person. Itâs already the twenty-first century. Thereâs nothing weird about men dressing up as women. Guess what? One of the sons of a prestigious family that is coming today is a homosexual.â
Casper shuddered. âReally? How did you know about it? Iâm sure his family will try to hide this fact if they found out about it.â
Victoria chuckled. âThis kind of news can never be hidden. Besides, the more prestigious a family is, the more likely it is for them to have such individuals.â
Casper made a mental note of the information.
Victoria led him out of the main hall and took a seat in the banquet hall. That was where the bidding was going to be held.
âApart from the antiques contributed by a few families, some people from Pine Street can trade in their antiques here, too. As long as their items are valuable, theyâre allowed to bring them in. Usually, this will bring in one or two folk antiques, which could be the highlight of the Antique Fair.â
âVictoriaâs Chamber didnât feel like a big place when I first came here. I didnât expect it could contain so many people.â Casper scanned the businessmen walking around in the main hall. If he were to include the employees of Victoriaâs Chamber, there were about three hundred to four hundred people there.
âI took over the two shops on both sides and renovated them just for todayâs Antique Fair,â Victoria explained. Suddenly, she patted Casper on the back. âThere, thatâs the Yaeger family, one of Horingtonâs most powerful underground forces. Theyâre just a little below the Lanes, and their second daughter married the Lanesâ second son.â
As Casper listened to her, he saw an elderly woman making her way through the main entrance. She seemed to be in her seventies or eighties and had a crutch in her hand. One could tell that the crutch was worth a fortune at a glance. On top of that, she had a big emerald ring on her thumb.
Standing beside her were two youngstersâa man and a woman. Both of them were good-looking, and they each had at least one ancient accessory.
âIs the son of the Yaeger family the homosexual you were talking about?â As Casper followed behind Victoria to greet them, he felt slightly worried after glancing at Ryan.
Victoria smiled. âNo. That woman beside him is his wife, the daughter-in-law of the Yaeger family.â
Soon, both of them arrived before the elderly woman. Tony, too, had brought Winston over to greet the Yaeger family. After all, both of them were powerful families and in-laws. Hence, it was only reasonable to exchange some pleasantries.
âMr. Lane, why didnât you bring my daughter, Sylvia, along?â Catherine Burton complained to Tony, looking displeased.
âTodayâs event is the Antique Fair, not an event hosted by our families. Why would I bring so many people along? Are you missing your daughter already, Old Mrs. Yaeger?â
Tony and Catherine exchanged some pleasantries while Casper listened to their conversation. Looks like one of the daughters-in-law who looked down on me at the Lane residence is from the Yaeger family.
As soon as Ryan spotted Victoria, his eyes lit up. To be more specific, his gaze was fixated on Victoriaâs ample bosom.
Meanwhile, the woman beside him noticed her husbandâs behavior, yet she dared not say anything.
Instead, she smiled awkwardly and greeted the others.
âLong time no see, Mr. Yeager.â When Victoria noticed Ryanâs gaze, a hint of disgust flashed past her eyes. Still, she put on an elegant smile, looking not the slightest bit upset.
âLong time no see, Victoria. Why didnât you accept the piece of emerald I gave you last time? Is it not good enough?â asked Ryan.
He spoke so arrogantly as if he had given Victoria the entire earth.
Casper was baffled. Heâs flirting with Victoria in front of his wife? Itâs as if the latter doesnât exist to him.
I canât imagine whatâs it like at home when heâs already ignoring his wife in public. Based on what he saw, Casper could picture the womanâs status in the Yaeger family.
What a bastard!
When Casper made a comment about Ryan in his heart, the latter noticed him, as if he had heard Casperâs thoughts.
It was at that moment that Ryan realized Casperâs arm was held by Victoria. He frowned at the sight.
Where did this broke-ass come from?
Surprisingly, he reached out and grabbed Casperâs arm, wanting to take it out of Victoriaâs embrace.
Idiot!
Casper made another comment about him in his heart. He did not bother to be polite and swatted Ryanâs hand away.
The latter froze for a moment, as he did not expect Casper to actually hit his hand. Right then, Ryanâs reckless behavior was activated, and he kicked Casper.
Is this guy nuts?
Immediately, Casper kicked Ryan, sending the latter flying backward. The bodyguard standing behind Tony was stunned to see Casperâs move. It took a lot of strength to send an adult man flying backward.
Moreover, Casperâs move was swift. It showed that he was an expert fighter.
âHow dare you hit me? Someone get him!â
Ryan pulled out his phone, looking as if he was about to summon someone. However, he looked so ridiculous that even Catherine could not bear it any longer.
She yelled to stop him, âDo you think your behavior is appropriate? Step back now!â
Ryan shot Casper a glare and ran out of the hall.
âIâm sorry for not educating him properly. Please be tolerant of him. Then again, though my son is impolite, this⦠friend of yours mightâve attacked a little too powerfully, donât you think?â
Noticing Victoria holding Casperâs arm, Catherine addressed him as Victoriaâs friend.
However, her words made Casper slightly upset. Your son was the one who attacked first. And now youâre saying my attack was too strong?
