They rarely got along as well as they were. Ophelia cherished the time they were together. Unfortunately, Zachariah had already fallen in love with another girl and always neglected Opheliaâs efforts to please him.
âMr. Chambers, I heard a man with coarse hair would love their wives dearly. You must be a good man caring for your family after marrying Ms.
Fletcher.â
Zachariahâs eyes squinted as he enjoyed Opheliaâs soft hands playing with his hair.
He spoke in a low voice. âWhy do you say so?â
âItâs just a feeling in my heart,â Ophelia chuckled.
âAre you jealous of her?â Zachariah asked tentatively.
Ophelia put the hairdryer down and hugged Zachariahâs neck gently, like a beautiful snake. She breathed in the smell of his body wash on his body with fascination and responded seductively.
âMr. Chambers, am I allowed to be jealous?â
Zachariah raised her chin and stared into her eyes. âWhat do you think?â
Ophelia looked at him directly, and her eyes were full of affection. âMr. Chambers, youâve devoted all your love to Ms. Fletcher. If Iâm jealous, youâd probably think I was trying to make trouble with no reason to.â
Zachariah let his hand fall away from her chin and shifted away from her. A bitter expression filled his face before he responded.
âYouâd better keep that in mind. As long as you abandon any thought you shouldnât have, youâll get more money than youâll ever need after the divorce.â
Ophelia laid down obediently and gave him a charming smile. âMr. Chambers, you are so generous. No wonder none of your girlfriends have any complaints after breaking up with you. Money really can stop scandals.â
Zachariah just glanced at her. âGo to sleep.â
Ophelia crawled into his arms and embraced him as usual, like a proper couple would.
Zachariah patted her shoulder subconsciously and whispered, âJust go to sleep. You act too much like a child.â
Zachariah fell asleep soon after their conversation, but Ophelia couldnât sleep at all.
In the warm, yellowish light, she looked up at Zachariahâs charming chin and whispered. âZachariah, even if you care about me for just one second, I wonât give up and leave this love triangle. Iâm your wife, but I have to give in to a woman who hurt you badly. You even believe sheâs innocent. Why are you so careless?â
Zachariah was sleeping soundly and naturally didnât hear or answer her.
Ophelia closed her eyes and continued her thoughts in her mind. âZachariah, Cora is not as innocent as you think. I donât want you to get hurt again.
But you probably wonât listen to me.â
Zachariah had become an enormous part of Opheliaâs life while Cora was nothings but a deadly poppy for Zachariah. He knew it was poisonous but still craved its sweetness.
After all, it seemed that Cora had already won as she showed weakness and pretended to be poor.
*****
Around seven in the morning the next day, Ophelia woke up, quietly got out of bed, and took a quick bath. Then she put on only an oversized t-shirt and went downstairs.
Mrs. Miriam was going back to her sonâs house to look after her grandson, so she was preparing their breakfast.
She cooked oatmeal over a low burner, fried two delicious eggs in a pan, and prepared lots of fresh fruit. When the oatmeal became soft and thick, she knew the breakfast was almost finished.
After living with Zachariah for four years, Ophelia knew his taste quite well. Although he could have breakfast any way he wished, he often preferred a lighter fare. He often went to nicer restaurants for business meetings. However, for personal dinners, he always took Ophelia to smaller, family-owned restaurants.
She once made fun of him and said he lived two different lives, including his meals.
As the heir of Chambers Group, no one dared to laugh at him even when he went to any restaurants for business gatherings. Besides, family-owned restaurants werenât inferior to chains. Local dishes were diverse in flavor, and you could always find delicious, inexpensive, and nutritious foods there.
It was a pity few people took the time to taste such wonderful local food.
She remembered Zachariah's response. âIt's not about eating and drinking. It's a way of life that successful people should have.â
