The next day, Ophelia drove to the Chambers Mansion after seeing Zachariah off to work. The butler, Mr. Harley Jordan, greeted her with a smile.
âYouâre finally back, young madam. Madam has been asking about you these days.â
Ophelia got out of the car and responded with a smile. âHow is she? I miss Momâs cooking a lot as Iâve been away for a month. Thatâs why Iâm rushing back.â
Mr. Jordan chuckled. âSheâs in good health. Sheâs bored sometimes, as both master and young master are busy with work.â
âMom wonât be bored now that Iâm back.â
Ophelia stepped into the house, with stiletto heels clicking with every step.
Located halfway up the hillside, the Chambersâ mansion villa covered a vast area of over a thousand hectares. As for the Chambers family members, it was quite simple. Mrs. Helena Chambers had a son and a daughter. Her son was Zachariah and her daughter was Savannah. Mrs. Chambers was in her sixties, but thanks to her extensive skincare routine, she resembled a woman in her early forties.
Apart from Savannahâs prejudice against Ophelia, the Chambersâ family was wonderful to her, especially Helena. She treated Ophelia as she did her daughter. However, she didnât know that her son and Opheliaâs marriage was based on a contract.
Ophelia loathed parting with Helena even after the divorce. Helena didnât have the usual arrogance often seen in wealthy women. She was easy-
going, dignified, and magnanimous. Talking to her was as natural as breathing fresh air.
âMom,â Ophelia called out sweetly to the woman sitting on the sofa.
The woman wore delicate makeup and a simple yet elegant dress.
Seeing that it was Ophelia, Helena smiled courteously and said, âYouâre back, Ophelia dear! Come and sit beside me.â
Ophelia walked over and snuggled next to Helena on the sofa.
Helena looked at her from head to toe and said, âWhy are you getting thinner?â
âThatâs because I didnât get to eat your cooking and was starved.â
Delighted by her sweet words, Helena laughed. âIâll cook some of your favorite dishes later for you to make up for the weight loss.â
âYouâre the best, Mom,â Ophelia said pleasantly, as if she were Helenaâs biological daughter.
âYouâre far beyond the age of kissing up. You make me sick,â a sickly sweet female voice called, and Ophelia knew who it was without turning her head.
âSavannah, sheâs your sister-in-law. How can you say that?â Helena asked with a frown.
Savannah snorted coldly, and said, âHow is she my sister-in-law? Sheâs just a woman bought by my brother.â
Helenaâs expression darkened visibly as she frowned. âSavannah, stop talking like that or you will regret it.â
Savannah sat down and crossed her arms with a huff.
Rather than get angry, Ophelia smiled at her sister-in-law. âSavannah, I heard from Zachariah that you went to Paris. When did you get back?â
To avoid Helenaâs wrath, Savannah replied reluctantly. âThe day before yesterday.â She smiled as if thinking of something pleasant, gloated, and continued in a sadistic tone. âSister-in-law, do you know who I saw in Paris?â
Ophelia became instantly alert. Savannah only addressed her as âsister-in-lawâ when she had wicked ideas brewing in her mind.
âYour friend?â Ophelia asked tentatively.
âI bumped into Cora. Sister-in-law, you know who she is, right?â Savannah asked excitedly. âNo, of course you donât know her. She is no other than the exââ
Throwing her a deadly stare, Helena interrupted. âSavannah, what on earth are you talking about?â
Shrugging, Savannah responded, âMom, Iâll be outside taking a walk. The air here is too stale because of someoneâs presence.â
Before anyone could respond, Savannah walked out as if there was no one else in the room.
Helena sighed and turned to Ophelia. âOphelia, don't mind her. Savannah was just too spoiled by us.â
Ophelia smiled. âSavannah is only in her early twenties. Itâs normal for women to be rebellious at that age.â
Helena patted Opheliaâs hand, feeling more affectionate toward her. âOphelia, youâre far too kind. Please donât take what Savannah said to hear. As for Cora, you can act as if she doesnât exist.â
Ophelia wasnât stupid enough to ask who Cora was and thought it best to avoid the subject. âWe are a family, Mom. I wonât let Savannahâs words bother me.â Ophelia said, even though she knew the so-called âfamilyâ would soon fall apart.

The Vixen's Man ï¤15 âI always knew you were a sweet girl,â Helena said, growing even more fond of Ophelia after hearing her reply.
Ophelia chatted with Helena for the entire morning and joined her for lunch. Helena was a little tired in the afternoon and went to take a nap. So Ophelia took the opportunity to go outside for a walk, and Savannah followed her.
âOphelia, don't assume that just because my mother likes you, you can become my sister-in-law forever. My brother always has Cora on his mind.
Donât count your chickens before they hatch,â Savannah mocked her.
Ophelia shot her an elegant glance and replied with a smile. âSavannah, I donât know who you are talking about. Donât forget, Iâm still your brotherâs wife. As long as weâre together, Iâm still your sister-in-law. I suggest you mind your words.â
Savannah looked at Ophelia mockingly and sneered. âMy sister-in-law? I don't think youâll hold that title for much longer. Only my mother is kind enough to treat someone like you as a daughter-in-law. You have nothing at all.â
After a pause, Savannah continued. âA Cinderella like you shouldnât dream of marrying into a wealthy family. If you divorce my brother now, you may still get considerable compensation. If you wait too long, youâll end up with nothing.â
Opheliaâs smile deepened as Savannah spoke. âThank you for your reminder. I considered divorcing your brother at first. But now, I believe Iâve changed my mind.â
Ophelia turned to walk back to the house, her steps light.
