Nova, Madeleineâs editor, darted a worried glance at Madeleine and told her, "Madeleine, have a good talk with Mr. Harrison. Iâll get back to work."
Madeleine nodded.
Nova left the room Mr. Harrison said as he was playing with the ring on his middle finger, "Take a seat."
Madeleine sat down submissively.
Madeleine pinched her own fingers nervously, mustered her courage to look at him and asked at last, "Mr. Harrison, why would you dismiss me? I thought weâve worked together well."
Mr. Harrison smiled seductively and gave her an ambiguous answer. "If I didnât do that, would you be sitting here in my office?"
Madeleine was totally confused to hear that, slack-jawed.
It seemed that Mr. Harrison enjoyed her stupefied look, and the smile across his face widened. "Madeleine, have you ever been told that youâre so adorable?"
Mr. Harrisonâs question baffled Madeleine.
Madeleine couldnât think straight for a moment, her mouth wide open.
"Whatâs wrong? Are you nuts?" The manâs deep and mellow voice drew Madeleine back to reality.
Staring at his sexy face, Madeleine blushed like a schoolgirl. In fact, she could remain calm when facing Zachariah and Tassach, but she stressed out when facing the man in front of her. Each time she came face to face with him, her heart would jump into her throat while her brain stopped working, as if she had become someone else.
Madeleine took a deep breath, rubbed her palms against her thighs anxiously and forced herself to calm down. "Mr. Harrison, why would you dismiss me? Donât my books sell?"
Mr. Harrison simply smiled, which puzzled her even more.
"Youâve been avoiding me all the time. If I didnât do this, would you have come to see me?"
Now Madeleine was entirely at loss. It was true that she had made many excuses to avoid the man before, but that was simply because she didnât enjoy the feeling of having butterflies in her stomach. This man was too charming and seductive, and she didnât want to throw herself at his feet. The only way to stop this was to keep away from him.
He was just like heroin, and anyone close to him would be attracted by him uncontrollably. Madeleine, nonetheless, didnât think they were from the same world, and that was why she kept avoiding him.
In Madeleineâs view, her distancing herself from this man shouldnât have provoked him.
"Mr. Harrison, I think there must be some misunderstanding in this. I donât avoid you on purpose. Itâs just that I can talk to my editor if I have any problems regarding my books, and she will deliver my messages to you. Itâs not that I donât want to talk to you. It didnât occur to me that you would be bothered by this. Iâm so sorry."
Suddenly, Madeleine explained in earnest.
The man folded his arms on the bureau and leaned over, which made him closer to Madeleine. Madeleine even felt that she could smell the unique scent of his hormoneâs.
"Mr.... Mr. Harrison..." stuttered Madeleine.
"Call my name."
Now Madeleineâs brain failed to function. She wondered how things would turn out like this. The relationship between her and the man before her was the boss and his subordinate, and they were not close enough so that she could call her bossâ name.
"Mr.... Mr. Harrison, youâre kidding, right?"
The man seemed to enjoy teasing Madeleine. He ran his fingers through her hair, which threw Madeleine into a trance.
Staring blankly at Mr. Harrison, Madeleine blushed like a schoolgirl again.
"Madeleine, have you ever been told that you look so beautiful?"
Madeleine blushed even more furiously. It was when she heard him chuckling that she realized she was fooled by this man.
Annoyed and ashamed, Madeleine asked in a grim voice, "Did you have fun fooling me, Mr. Harrison?"
The man leaned back in his chair and replied, "Yes, I did. Your reactions were fun."

The Vixen's Man ï¤15 Madeleine was more at a loss than angry. Her relationship with the man before her was simply the boss and the subordinate, and she had never expected him to be interested in her.
She didnât come from the same world as his. He came from a rich family. He established his business on his own and developed it without his familyâs support. He was in the same league as Zachariah and Tassach, but more charming than those two.
"Mr. Harrison, I think we have some real business to talk over." Madeleine took a deep breath and pretended to be calm.
"Arenât we already?"
Madeleine was a little frustrated. This man couldnât be understood with the way a normal person thought.
"Mr. Harrison, I heard that you wanted to dismiss me. Shouldnât you give me an explanation? I know the liquidated damages mean nothing to you, but donât you think itâs a nasty move to release the partner that youâve been working with for years all of a sudden?"
"Have I ever said I would release you?"
Madeleine fell into confusion again. "Didnât you say..."
"I was joking with you about it. Come on. Relax."
Madeleine clenched her fists and said in annoyance, "I donât find it fun, Mr. Harrison."
"Are you mad?"
