"SOME FRIEND YOU are, leaving me and Carter alone during assembly." A voice chuckled from behind as he grabbed the blonde abruptly by the hand after assembly.
Ryan yelped in surprise at the sudden contact, but her face turned into that of deadpan as she realized who it was.
The headmaster just left the main hall, and all the students were now in the process of filing out to the hallway in small groups, mentally tired from a long exhausting speech given by the Head.
Ryan never knew how he could have the energy to talk like that for so long, in that annoying voice of his.
And she didn't know how Archer Giovanni could have all that energy on a Monday.
"Whoops. Sorry?" She said sheepishly as Archer raised a brow. She unraveled herself from Archer's clutches to look at him.
Archer Giovanni was most certainly hot. With messy blonde hair just like Ryan's and brown eyes that sparkled, all the girls would squeal whenever he would walk by. Even now, a mob of girls was staring longingly at him.
Thankfully none of them gave dirty stares to Ryan and she was glad that she didn't have to deal with shit like that so early in the morning.
"Is that how much our friendship amounts to?" He gasped dramatically and even Ryan couldn't refrain from rolling her electric blue eyes.
"Jesus Archer chill. I thought you and Carter were going to assembly with the team. So I didn't bother stopping by your place with Aanya. Wait, where is Carter?"
He huffed, narrowing his brown eyes. "Who knows? It's been like ten minutes since senior year started and his mouth is already on some random girl's."
Ryan laughed. Carter Covington was the notorious playboy of Aiden-Leigh High. His family owned Covington Prep in Cali. Well, did considering Covington Prep was forced to shut down due to the malpractices containing illegal bets.
"You wouldn't happen to be jealous would you? I mean-"
"Me? Jealous? I just wouldn't want him to get mouth herpes. Or would I?" He snickered as he ran a hand through his blonde hair.
Ryan sighed. There was no way for her to even remotely talk to him.
"Speaking of which, where's Aanya?" He asked suddenly, noticing that the girl who was mostly attached to Ryan hip wasn't there.
She sighed again. It looked like she was doing a lot of sighing the whole day. "She went to talk to the Headmaster straight after assembly about being valedictorian this year."
Just as she said it, Aanya came up to them in the hallway, droplets of sweat forming around her tan skin. She looked frantic and mad as she leaned into the hard wall, putting one arm on Ryan shoulder for support.
"Who's getting mouth herpes?" She asked, overhearing the last conversation.
"No one." Said Ryan at the same time Archer mumbled, "Carter." Aanya looked confusedly at the both of them.
"Oh well." She shrugged, "I don't really care."
"Speaking of which," Ryan interrupted, turning to look at Aanya. "What did the Head say about you being valedictorian?"
Archer snickered at that, an indelicate sound coming out of his mouth. "Her? As valedictorian? God help us."
Ryan clicked her tongue, slapping his hand in the process. "Be nice." She said as Aanya sighed.
"Rude comments aside," she said as she pointed a look at Archer, "he said that although my studies and my extra credit is great, Veronica Woo might get it instead of me."
"Veronica Woo as valedictorian? God help us again." Archer snorted as they reached his locker.
Ryan sighed. One thing that was great about summer break was that she didn't have to deal with Archer and his lame jokes. "I can't with you. Go die in a ditch."
Aanya laughed. "Ryan don't tell other people to die. It's not nice."
"Whatever." She grumbled. Waking up in the morning was one thing. Listening to Archers jokes in the morning were another thing added to her hellish life. "I've got to get my books and go to the main office to get my schedule."
"You haven't gotten your schedule yet?" Archer shrieked in surprise as Aanya shook her head. Ryan could understand their surprise though. It wasn't natural for her to forget something like getting her schedule. Originally all students were to go to the main office as soon as they got to the academy to get their schedule. It would help them prep for their upcoming classes when school officially started.
That was the main reason people came weeks before school actually started. But with all the things going around in her life, Ryan had forgotten to do so.
"I forgot okay? I'm gonna get it now. See you guys." She said as she went off in the opposite direction flashing a smile and a wave at the two of them.
The lady at the main office was a stout lady with a straight line for a smile. Of course if Ryan's job in life was to tend to depressed and angry teenagers, she'd be grumpy too.
"Hello." She said politely, tucking a stray strand of hair that had fallen free from her messy bun behind her ear. "Can I please have my schedule? My Admission no is 033456 and my name is Blair, Ryan."
She grunted as an ok and went back to typing on her computer, searching up her schedule. A slight beep came through from the computer, as a small sheet of paper emerged from the printer attached to the device. She took it and handed it to Ryan, shooing her as soon as the paper was in her hand.
She turned, ready to leave but was stopped as soon as she soon as she did, due to the fact that she bumped into a wall of hard flesh.
Oh why the fuck.
She looked up to see Carter Covington. His black hair was pulled back by gel and the right piercing in his ear gleamed in the sunlight.
"Sorry Gia. Didn't see you there." He chuckled as he put a hand on her shoulder to steady her.
"It's fine." She mumbled. He'd always had a habit of calling a Gia, after knowing her middle name Morgiana. Something she hadn't always liked but she felt herself growing to the term. "Did you forget to pick up your schedule too?" She asked fixing her electric blue eyes up at his chiseled face, meeting his caramel ones.
He grinned. "Kind of. Football season is starting so the team was holed up at practice all this time. We all kinda didn't have time to get it."
"Oh." She said. Football was god in Aiden-Leigh High. Like lacrosse was the bomb in Teen wolf, it was football here. It was a cliche she didn't understand. I mean what was so great about football? Running around the field with a ball on your arm wasn't great.
Most of the teachers here cut all the football players so much slack that even girls wanted to try out for football. But then again, football here was rigorous in its own ways so they refrained from it.
"Well, I have to go now. I have," she looked at her sheet and the time on her phone. Shit. "French in forty seconds!" She panicked as she started walking faster, bidding Carter goodbye with a slight flick of her wrist.
"Woah, wait Gia. Lunch together as always right?" He said as he turned, grabbing her shoulder.
"Huh?" She asked, confused. "Yeah, the usual. I need to go. Now. If not the only place I'll be going to is detention!" She said as she ran as fast as her legs could take her. The French room was all the way at the other end of the wing and by then she was muttering profanities under her breath.
six minutes for a passing period is utter complete bullshit.
"Miss Blair. I'd advise you to not run in the halls."
Oh fuck I know that voice anywhere.
She stopped in her tracks, looking sheepishly at the Head. "Whoops sorry." She apologized and started speed walking, not bothering to hear his reply.
"And Mr. Sutton. Please don't be late to class. I know football is important but so are your studies."
"Whoops. Will do sir." An easy, confident voice replied, causing Ryan to turn her head for a second.
The warning bell for the last ten seconds ran and she panicked, running off to her class, ignoring the Head's request.
