Chapter 105: His Past Ameliaâs throat tightened.
Logan paused briefly before continuing, "Mrs. Perry, you seem to enjoy raising other peopleâs sons, but unfortunately, I donât share that sentiment."
"Youâre being insolent!" Amelia seemed to have been struck in a sore spot, finally losing her temper. She trembled with rage and shouted, "Logan, Iâm your mother! How dare you speak to me like this?!"
Logan lazily twirled a fruit knife between his fingers, his tone indifferent.
"Mrs. Perry, youâre well aware of what kind of worthless failure your adopted son is. If youâre interested in playing house with him, be my guest, but I have no patience for babysitting idiots."
"Youâ!" Ameliaâs face turned red with fury, her voice rising in anger. "In any case, the South City land will go to your brother, or donât blame me for what happens next!"
Logan drawled, "The South City land isnât solely mine to decide. If I let it go now, Mrs. Perry, how exactly should I explain that to my shareholders?"
Amelia scoffed, her tone arrogant. "Thatâs your problem. Regardless, you canât let your brother suffer."
Logan nodded, casually setting down the fruit knife. He tapped his phone twice.
"When your adopted son squanders that piece of land, Iâll just play this recording for the shareholders."
"Logan!" Amelia finally realized sheâd been tricked. "You two are brothers! You should be helping each other! What kind of elder brother are you?!"
Brother? How laughable.
Loganâs expression was cold as he cast her a sidelong glance. "And what happened to the person who called you âsisterâ? You stole her identity and her husband. Mrs. Perry, I wouldnât dare repeat history by trusting an adopted son."
How could Amelia not understand the meaning behind his words?
Logan was mocking her for stealing Annaâs identity!
Her rage boiled over. "I was an adopted daughter and a mistressâdo you think youâre any better?! Logan, no matter how high and mighty you act, you still came out of my womb! Youâll always be a bastard! If you help your brother now, heâll take care of you in the future!"
"And stop pretendingâyou think people donât know what kind of filthy rat you used to be? You were willing to risk your life for a scrap of food! Youâre disgusting, so what right do you have to look down on me?!"
"If Mrs. Perry knows what kind of person I used to be, then you should know better than to provoke me." Loganâs voice carried unmistakable disgust.
"A man like meâraised in violence, hands stained with bloodâdo you really want to test me?"
With a sharp whoosh, the fruit knife embedded itself into the sofa, making Amelia freeze in terror.
Logan suddenly lost interest. He had thought this woman might have grown smarter, but she was still the sameâvile and foolish.
How ridiculous that this woman, who had never cared if he lived or died, was his biological mother.
He had crawled out of piles of corpses as a child, fought stray dogs for food, endured the most bitter and brutal suffering, only to return home and find a "son" had already replaced him.
From then on, he became an unwanted burden, a bastard no one acknowledged.
Mrs. Reid had asked him yesterday why he changed his surname.
Because when he was abandoned in the world, he only had the name Logan, no last name at all, and he didnât even know that he was a member of the Reid family. When the Reid Family "reclaimed" him, he was forced to take their name.
But even after being given the Reid name, even as the biological son of the family, he remained the most disgraceful existence within it.
And now, after fifteen years, Amelia still thought she could use his past to threaten him?
Logan walked out without hesitation.
In that instant, he transformed back into the untouchable head of the Reid Familyâcold, composed, and aristocratic.
No one would ever guess that beneath that refined exterior lay such an unspeakable past.
Jack was already waiting at the entrance. The moment he saw Logan step out, he quickly approached. "Sir, about the South City land..."
A sharp glint flashed in Loganâs eyes. "Since my dear brother has set his sights on it, letâs give it to him. Spread the word that Iâm fully committed to securing that land."
Jack immediately understood that his boss had his own plans. "Yes, sir! Did Mrs. Perry give you any trouble?"
Logan let out a mocking laugh. Trouble? Ameliaâs so-called trouble was hardly worth mentioning. He was keeping her around for now simply because there were still some things he needed to uncover.
Jack glanced at his watch before speaking respectfully. "Sir, Designer Turner is already waiting for you."
"And also... it seems Madam has encountered some trouble."
Logan adjusted his suit. "Whoâs giving her trouble?"
"Mrs. Carter got into an argument with Madam over a wedding dress."
A wedding dress. The Carter Family...
Loganâs gaze turned icy. Courting death. "Letâs go."
...
Selina stepped into the bridal boutique and, after explaining her appointment to the staff, was led to the third floor.
Half an hour later, just as she finished changing into her wedding gown, she suddenly overheard two women speaking.
"Natalia, your wedding with Ryan is a major event for the Carter Family. Everything has to be perfect!"
"Oh my god, Natalia, you actually got Turnerâs apprentice to design your dress? Iâm so jealous!"
Selina narrowed her eyes slightly.
On the other side, Natalia strutted in, arm-in-arm with Jillian and Zoey, basking in their admiration.
Trailing behind them was a manâSean White, one of Kevinâs registered apprentices in the country, a rising star in the design world.
Jillianâs face lit up as she admired the dazzling array of wedding gowns.
"Mr. White, weâll have to trouble you to design a few more styles for Natalia. The Carter Familyâs bride must make a grand entrance!"
Sean smiled. "Miss Natalia is a friend of mine. Iâll make sure sheâs the most dazzling bride."
A sinister glint flashed through Nataliaâs eyes.
For days, she had been overshadowed by Selina. Now that she finally had a chance to turn the tables, she would not let it slip away.
She turned to Sean, hinting, "Mr. White, didnât you say you had reserved a special wedding dress just for me?"
Sean nodded. "Itâs a design my mentor created two years agoâGalaxy River. He never found the right bride for it, but I believe it suits you perfectly."
Natalia feigned shock. "Galaxy River! Thatâs too precious!"
Kevin had won countless international awards, but his most renowned masterpiece was the legendary Galaxy River from two years ago.
A gown adorned with shimmering stars, as breathtaking as the Milky Way itself. The moment it was unveiled, someone had even offered thirty million to purchase its design rights. But Kevin had refused.
And now, this wedding dress was about to be hers?
Jillian and Zoey were overjoyed. The more outstanding Natalia became, the more it proved they had chosen the right person to support.
Sean led them up to the third floor. "The gown is kept in the collection cabinet. Iâll take Miss Nataliaâ"
Before he could finish his sentence, a figure stepped out of the styling room.
Selina had just changed into a wedding dress and had done a simple styling, completely unaware that she was about to run into Natalia.
She frowned slightly, preferring to avoid unnecessary drama, and turned to head toward the lounge.
Nataliaâs expression darkened.
Why was Selina trying on a wedding dress?
Was Logan actually going to marry her?
If that happened, everyone would know that Selina was Mrs. Reid...
No. No way. She had to stop this!
A sudden thought crossed Nataliaâs mind. Her eyes gleamed with malice, and she instantly put on a pitiful expression, her voice trembling with grievance.
"Sister... why are you wearing my wedding dress?"
