Chapter 119: What Is Logan Hiding from Her?
They couldnât afford to let Selina leaveâoffending her meant offending Gordon.
The Perry Family members turned pale. "Miss Clark, please come back. Letâs talk this over properly."
Selina turned back with a doubtful expression. "Really? Maybe you should ask Miss Perry first to see if sheâll allow it. I wouldnât want to come back just to be told to get lost again. Thatâd be awkward."
Mr. Perry had no choice but to force a smile. "Miss Clark, Vivian was just acting out in the heat of the moment. She didnât really mean for you to leave.
Vivian, youâve been unreasonableâhurry up and apologize to Miss Clark."
Selina let out a mocking chuckle.
This Perry Family sure was somethingâflexible when needed.
Vivianâs face stiffened. This wretched woman had already been thrown out, yet now her father was groveling to bring her back?
But with so many eyes on her, if she refused to apologize, sheâd suffer even more humiliation.
Biting her lip, Vivian forced out the words through gritted teeth. "Iâm sorry..."
Selina raised a brow, and seeing the utter devastation on Vivianâs face, her mood instantly improved.
"Alright then. Since Miss Perry has apologized, I wonât hold a grudge."
The onlookers immediately chimed in with flattery:
"Miss Clark is so magnanimous."
"She and Vivian are worlds apart. How dare Vivian even dream of competing with Mr. Reidâs wife?"
"Mr. Perry, youâd better take your adopted daughter away. The Perry Family canât afford this embarrassment."
Vivian had never been publicly humiliated like this before. Overwhelmed with rage, she let out a loud wail, shot Selina a venomous glare, then pushed through the crowd and ran out the door.
Logan narrowed his eyes. Jack immediately nodded and followed after her.
Mr. Perry forced a smile. "Old Madam, Vivian is still young. Please donât be angry. Iâll make sure she apologizes to you later."
Grandma Perry sneered, "Young? She knew how to team up with our fifth to frame Selina. Sheâs plenty old enough!"
Then she added indifferently, "As for the fifthâmoving forward, Logan will take over the appraisal institute."
With that one simple sentence, she sentenced Perry the Fifth to ruin.
His face turned deathly pale. The appraisal institute was his lifelineâhow could it be handed over to Logan?
"Old Madam, how could youâLogan has no rightâ"
Grandma Perry let out a cold snort. "An appraiser who canât even distinguish a crude fake from a genuine piece still dares to run an appraisal institute? And you have the nerve to ask me about Loganâs qualifications? Are you even worthy of that question?"
Perry the Fifth nearly collapsed to the floor. He was finished. Fear and regret crashed over him like a tidal wave.
Panicked, he suddenly lunged at Mr. Perry. "Itâs all because of you! You and Vivian forced me to go along with this!"
Mr. Perry hadnât expected the fire to spread to him. His face turned red with anger. "What nonsense are you spouting? Vivian and I were deceived by you!"
Grandma Perry watched their disgraceful infighting with a look of cold detachment.
This was the Perry Family. How ridiculous.
"Throw these disgraceful fools out. Selina, letâs continue our meal."
...
After the banquet, Selina and Logan returned to his courtyard.
"Logan!"
As soon as the door opened, an enraged voice rang out.
Amelia had clearly been waiting for them, and the moment she saw Logan, she rushed forward.
"What do you mean by ordering family punishment for Vivian?! Just for this vixen?! You bastard child!"
Selina instinctively turned to look at Logan. He punished Vivian for her?
Logan responded lazily, "The first rule of the Perry Family states that one must not scheme against their own kin. I punished Vivian accordingly. Does you have an issue with that?"
Amelia was livid. "Selina is not even a real Perry Family! Vivian only acted out because she likes you so much, yet you refuse to show any mercy! If the one who wronged Selina today had been me, would you have used family punishment on me as well?!"
Loganâs tone was leisurely as he replied, "If you wishes, that can be arranged."
"Youâve completely lost your mind! How dare you!"
Ameliaâs anger reached new heights. For a vixen... Victoriaâs daughter, no less, her own son was defying her!
Selina was just as shameless as her mother!
"Hasnât you always known whether I dare or not?"
Logan casually toyed with his dagger, speaking in a calm, almost indifferent tone. "I donât fear the entire Perry Family, let alone Vivian. Or perhaps...
you want Vivian to die sooner?"
Amelia was shaking with rage. "How could I have a son like you? Youâll never die in peace. Selina, if you had any shame, you would just leave Logan â"
But in the next instant, all her words were stuck in her throat.
The dagger made a swift noise as it landed at Ameliaâs feet.
Logan laughed lightly, unfazed. "Mrs. Perry, you should be grateful itâs Grandmaâs birthday today, or else I wouldnât have been so lenient. Jack, show her out."
Ameliaâs face went pale. "Fine, just wait! Youâll regret this!"
Selina blinked. Was Logan avenging her?
A strange feeling bubbled up inside her. She wasnât good at thanking people, but she opened her mouth and quietly said, "Thank you."
Logan turned to look at her. "Are you thanking me?"
Selina was momentarily puzzled.
Logan suddenly reached out and lightly touched her forehead. "Mrs. Reid, youâve suffered because of me. Helping you is only right. You donât need to thank me."
Selina froze.
Helping her was only right... because she was Mrs. Reid, or for some other reason?
She felt a bit of confusion in her chest, unsure of the emotion swirling inside her.
It seemed like she was starting to rely on this man too much.
"Sir," Jack walked in, lowering his voice, "Old Mr. Perry asks to see you in the lounge."
Logan narrowed his eyes.
His gaze softened as it landed on Selina. "Why donât you go upstairs and rest for a while, okay?"
Selina nodded, watching Logan leave.
She touched her racing heart. Was this what it felt like to be protected by someone? But why would Logan protect her over something so trivial?
If it was just because of the title "Mrs. Reid," what if it werenât her married to him?
Would he protect someone else now?
Selina felt lost, and at that moment, she suddenly felt an overwhelming desire to see Logan.
She stared at the clock, lost in thought. Half an hour later, there was a sound from downstairs, and Selina immediately stood up.
"Logan, I heard from Jack that youâre still looking for those people from years ago. Any leads?"
Selina froze. Was that Bellaâs voice?
Bella, looking gentle as ever, continued, "Iâve recently heard something. Four years ago, over there..."
"No need," Logan interrupted coldly. "Iâll handle it myself. You and Andrew donât need to worry about it."
Bella bit her lip, but her gaze shifted, and she quickly saw Selina in the corner. She immediately changed her approach:
