Chapter 217: Emotional Blackmail Maybe even Mrs. Reid herself hadnât realizedâevery time she got jealous, her little ears would turn red.
Logan looked at her nearly-glowing ears and lowered his voice. "We canât let the whole resort get poisoned by vinegar just to fulfill that second request, donât you think?"
Selinaâs ears flushed an even deeper red.
Waitâwhat do you mean, "donât you think"? Logan was doing this on purpose. She wasnât jealous!
...
The day passed quickly. After a full day of playing in the snow, Selina was exhausted and just wanted a hot shower and a warm bed.
But someone came rushing inâAngelicaâs agent.
"You still havenât found Angelica? Where could she be this late? Her phoneâs off!"
The lead bodyguard shook his head. "Weâve looked everywhere. Could Miss Clark have already gone down the mountain?"
"No way! If she did, she wouldâve called me!" The agent was pacing anxiously.
Someone nearby asked, "Whatâs going on? Angelicaâs not back? Has anyone seen her?"
"No. She went off with that ski instructor earlier and hasnât returned."
Selina furrowed her brow. Something didnât feel right.
Angelica... missing?
"Call that ski instructor," the agent urged. "Maybe sheâs still with him!"
Luke, who had no fondness for Angelica, still looked concerned. A person disappearing during a snowy night was seriousâand he didnât want to be the cause of any trouble for Logan.
But the instructor wasnât answering either. A moment later, an assistant ran up with a grim expression.
"Young Master Reid, that instructor left the mountain two hours agoâvanished. His phone and bank account have both been deactivated. It looks like heâs on the run."
The agent gasped, "Then Angelica might still be on the mountain! Mr. Reid, pleaseâsend people to look for her. No matter what sheâs done... she did save your life..."
Selinaâs unease deepened. The instructorâs sudden disappearance, Angelicaâs vanishing... it all felt off. Still, this wasnât the time to stop a search.
Loganâs eyes narrowed. "Whereâs the security footage?"
"We checked all of it," the assistant replied. "Thereâs no sign of Miss Clark leaving the resort. So she must still be somewhere on the mountain..."
"Split into three teams and search along separate paths," Logan ordered. "If she didnât go down, sheâs still up here."
The agentâs eyes lit up. "Mr. Reid, what about you? Will you look for her too? Angelica told me she found you after your accident because of some kind of spiritual connection. Maybe this time youâll sense where she is, too..."
That eerie feeling Selina had in her chest only grew stronger.
Logan gave the agent a single calm glanceâjust one, but it was enough to make the woman shiver.
Still, Logan nodded. "This is Lukeâs ski resort. If something happens, Iâll take responsibility and help search."
Selina tilted her head and followed quietly behind.
For half an hour, the search teams called out Angelicaâs name again and again, but there was no answer. Selina bit her lip. She didnât want to seem petty, but deep down, she didnât believe Angelica was actually in danger.
Still, this was Loganâs so-called "savior"...
"Donât worry," Logan said quietly, brushing her exposed ear. "Iâm just here to help find her. It wonât change anything."
Selina shook her head.
"Over here! Weâve got someone!" a shout suddenly pierced the silence.
A man rushed up. "Mr. Reid! We found Miss Clark! She fell into a snow pit and was unconscious for nearly two hoursâitâs serious!"
Selina froze for a momentâAngelica was actually in trouble?
Loganâs brow furrowed. "Get her out. The doctor is already here."
The rescue team looked hesitant. "We tried to pull Miss Clark up using safety ropes, but even though sheâs unconscious, she seems extremely guarded. The moment we get close, she flinches and trembles in fear. We donât dare touch her anymore..."
"Her agent said youâre a friend of hers, and hoped you could try."
In an instant, all eyes turned to Logan.
Angelicaâs agent came stumbling forward, her face streaked with tears. "Mr. Reid, please! Angelica wonât wake up and wonât let anyone near her. If she stays in that snow pit any longer, it could be fatal! I beg youâsheâs your lifesaver. Please carry her out!"
Then she turned to Selina, eyes flashing with calculated pity as she added, almost like moral blackmail:
"Miss Selina, Angelica is your sister. You wouldnât want her to die here, right? Itâs just borrowing your husband for a moment to save a lifeâyou wouldnât joke about something like that, would you? Donât worry, Angelica has no improper thoughts toward Mr. Reid. Sheâs unconscious, thereâs no way she could try to seduce him!"
The implication was clear: Selina was just jealous and selfish, caring more about love rivalries than someoneâs life.
Luke frowned at the statement. "I mean, if the rescue team couldnât do anything, whatâs Logan gonna do..."
"Iâll go," Logan interrupted. His voice was calm but carried weight. "If youâre really concerned about saving a life, then mind your words."
The agent immediately put on an act, smacking herself lightly across the face. "Youâre right, youâre rightâI spoke out of turn. Miss Selina is beautiful and kind-hearted. Of course sheâll understand! Mr. Reid, pleaseâhurry!"
Selina pressed her lips together tightly. She knew logically that Logan going was the best choice. But emotionally, something about this sat wrong with her.
Angelicaâs life... what did it have to do with him? Noâthat wasnât fair. Angelica was his so-called savior.
Luke muttered under his breath, second-guessing himself. "Did I say something wrong? The womanâs unconscious. Shouldnât we focus on pulling her out? Why insist on Logan going down himself? What a waste of time..."
Seriously. If staying in the snow pit was truly life-threatening, why not just get her out? Why was everyone so convinced Logan was the only one who could do it?
Ten minutes later, at the edge of a snow pit near the ski slopeâ

Miss Clark refuses to let anyone touch her. If you could just carry her out..."
Logan glanced at the rescue ladder, then turned and began climbing down.
Given the circumstancesâand given that this was his so-called lifesaverâhe had no choice. That said, it wouldnât have mattered who it was. If someone was in danger and needed saving, Logan would always step in.
He just didnât appreciate the manipulative way the agent had framed it.
Logan reached the bottom smoothly. He crouched beside Angelica and checked her breathing. Just as he started to lift herâ
Angelica suddenly began to convulse. "Donât touch me, noâno, donât..."
The agent shouted from above, "She gets scared whenever anyone touches her! That ski instructor mustâve tried to hurt her... Mr. Reid, try calming her down!"
Loganâs jaw tightened. It was still a life on the lineâthere was no time for hesitation.
"Angelica," he said firmly. "Itâs me. Stop struggling. Give me your hand."
Everyone at the edge of the snow pit held their breath.
And just like thatâAngelica stopped moving.
The agent broke into grateful sobs. "I knew it. I knew sheâd listen to Mr. Reid..."
