Chapter 223: He Loves Only Her Angelica had always thought Luke was an airheaded idiotâeasy to fool. "Of course I know. Youâre Young Master Luke, Loganâs younger brother."
"No." Luke enunciated every word clearly. "Iâm the illegitimate son of the Reid Family. Thatâs a confirmed fact."
Angelicaâs expression stiffened. Was this guy out of his mind? Who cared whether he was illegitimate or not?
Before she could say anything, the little master added sarcastically:
"My mom was a mistress. Iâve seen all the tricks mistresses pull before they claw their way up. Angelica, everything you do reminds me of her."
The room fell into stunned silence.
Everyone stared, dumbfounded.
Wait a second. What was Luke saying? That because he was a bastard, he knew exactly how mistresses behave? And Angelica reminded him of his motherâwho everyone knew had slept her way into the family?
So basically, Luke was saying that Angelica was acting exactly like a mistress?!
Angelica? A mistress?!
Angelicaâs face twisted with anger, contorted and ugly, but she couldnât lash out. "Young Master Luke, you really do love to joke."
Luke let out a cold laugh, turned around, and walked outâhopping on a plane straight back to City A.
Logan, go ahead and keep playing nurse to Angelica. If your wife ran off, you deserved it.
...
A few hours later, Logan got a message from Jack.
"Selina went back?"
"Young Master Luke said she returned to City A in the middle of the night, but Butler Miller said Madam didnât return to Sapphire Valley Villa."
Loganâs brow furrowed deeply. He turned and strode out. "Prep the private jet. Iâm going back now."
When he arrived at Sapphire Valley Villa, the first thing he saw was Grandma Perry.
"Grandma?"
"Logan." She sighed, creasing her brows. "Selina came back, but she left quietly."
Logan froze in place. "What did you say?"
"Itâs my fault. Last night I spoke with Butler Miller, and Selina overheard..."
She recounted the story of discovering the "love letters."
"What are you thinking, Logan? You can love Angelica if thatâs how you feel, but you canât be unfaithful in marriage. If you donât want to be with Selina, then speak with her and divorce her respectfully before pursuing Angelica."
"If you cheat while still married, how are you any different from your father?"
Logan stared down at the stack of "letters" on the table, his lips pressed tight.
"Grandma, I only love Selina."
"Then these..." Grandma Perry gestured to the letters.
"Theyâre not love letters," Logan said quietly. "They were just a way to find the woman who once saved me. Nothing more."
Besides, the more he interacted with Angelica, the more he realized she was nothing like that woman. He never made the connection.
Grandma Perry still wasnât satisfied. "Then what about the Twitter trending topics? Itâs been more than ten hoursâwhy havenât you had them removed?! You left Selina waiting at the hotel this whole time and said nothing!"
Logan swallowed hard.
Over ten hours ago, after getting Angelica to the hospital, his body had been wracked with sharp, sudden painâthe hidden toxin in his system had flared up without warning. He lost consciousness for nearly ten hours, and when he woke, Jackâs message was the first thing he saw.
He rushed back immediately.
But he couldnât tell Grandma Perry that. He didnât want her to worry.
He lowered his gaze. "It was my mistake. Donât worry. Iâll bring Selina home."
Grandma Perry, unused to seeing Logan so quick to admit fault, didnât know what to say for a moment.
"Logan, if you really care about her, then explain everything clearly. Donât let her get hurt again. And make sure you deal with that Angelica situation properly."
"I donât care if sheâs your so-called savior. Youâre not married to her. If fate wanted you two together, it wouldnât have gone like this. I wonât allow my grandson to become a man who betrays his wife."
Logan nodded. "I understand."
After sending Grandma Perry off, Logan turned and headed upstairs. Selina hadnât brought many belongings to begin with, so even though she was gone, the Sapphire Valley Villa didnât look any different on the surface.
But Logan could feel itâclearly and deeply. The entire villa felt hollow, deathly quiet, completely devoid of life.
It was as if even his heartbeat had stopped.
He took a deep breath, picked up his phone, and dialed Damien.
...
Brown Family Villa.
Selina sat with little energy, visibly unenthusiastic. Damien handed her a piece of fruit.
"Guess who just called me?"
Selina didnât even look up. "Not interested."
"Fair enough," Damien said with a shrug. "But the fact that he called me means he knows youâre here. What if he comes to take you home?"
fɾeewebnoveâ.co๠Selinaâs expression didnât change. "So what if he comes? That doesnât mean Iâll go with him."
Damien paused, then gave a low laugh, clearly entertained. "I didnât even say who âheâ was. Selina, you just admitted it yourself."
Selinaâs expression froze for a moment.
Great. A verbal trap.
She turned her face away. "Even if he does show up... so what? Iâll just refuse to see him."
As soon as the words left her mouth, a maid came rushing in. "Mr. Brown, you have a visitor."
Damienâs eyes lit up like a kid about to watch a drama. "That fast? Iâm impressed. Show him in."
Selina nearly lost her composure. "Damien!"
He replied in a warm, gentle tone, "Relax. With me here, he wonât be able to take you unless you want to go. Besides, donât you want to see how he tries to win you back?"
Selina wanted to say absolutely not, but before she could respond, approaching footsteps echoed from the hallway.
She frozeâthen turned quickly to leave.
"Miss Clark, why leave the moment you see me? Am I really that unpleasant?"
The voice was smooth, politeânot Loganâs.
Selina couldnât tell if she felt relieved or disappointed. She turned around. "Jacob?"
"Who else were you expecting?" Jacob replied with a smile. "Sorry for dropping by unannounced, but I have something I think youâll want to see."
Damien narrowed his eyes slightly and waved the maid away.
Selina looked at Jacob curiously. "What do you want to show me?"
He pulled out a folder. "When you first got married, you probably looked into Loganâs background, didnât you?"
"But did you ever think that what you found mightâve been altered? That someone wanted you to see those specific thingsâand made sure you couldnât see the truth?"
Selina lowered her gaze, flipping through the documentsâand her brow furrowed immediately.
The papers showed that while she was investigating Logan, someone had intentionally blocked her from uncovering the real story.

"You thought you were marrying someone from the Carter family, but Loganâs surname is Reid. Iâm sure you asked him about that, right? What did he tell you?"
Selinaâs lips pressed into a tight line.
He told her he had changed his nameâbut he never once claimed his surname had ever been Carter.
She stared at the pages, reading incident after incident where Loganâs interference or misdirection had altered what she believed to be true. For a moment, she didnât know what to say.
Was she heartbroken? Maybe notâbecause deep down, sheâd always suspected she married the wrong man. But still, having that suspicion confirmedâripping off the bandage and seeing the truthâstill hurt.
Jacob put the folder away, then asked, his tone unreadable, "So, Miss Clark... now that you know Logan lied to youâwhat are you going to do about it?"
