Chapter 273: Love at First Sight Riley dug her nails into her palms so hard it hurt.
She had to endure this... Sheâd been too impatient. The timing wasnât right yet. For now, she could only endure it.
Forcing a strained smile, Riley said, "Logan, I understand."
Then she turned to Selina, voice gentle. "Selina, Iâm really sorry. I promise this wonât happen again. I truly see you as a friend."
Selina raised an eyebrow. She hadnât expected Riley to be this good at swallowing her pride.
Having made his point, Logan took Selinaâs hand and led her out.
Once they were in the car and seated, he glanced at her. "Feeling better now?"
Selina choked slightly. "What do you mean? Just because I got to put your childhood sweetheart in her place, Iâm supposed to be in a good mood?
What do you think I am, petty?"
Logan didnât respond right away. He glanced at her, slow and meaningful. No words needed.
Selinaâs cheeks turned red under that look.
Why did it feel like all her little thoughts had been seen through? And waitâRowan!
She quickly pulled out her phone, worried Rowan might misunderstand something about Logan. She typed in a rush:
[I take it back. My husband is incredibly faithful!]
Two beeps sounded in the quiet car. Loganâs phone lit up. He glanced at it and casually tapped the screen.
"Spam," he said.
"Oh." Selina didnât think much of it and went back to her email.
Rowan: [So you misunderstood him? Why would you think that? Is he usually like that?]
Selina flushed. Was she really discussing her marriage with a forty-something-year-old man?
Still, Rowan was Loganâs friend. As a wife, it was only right to defend her husbandâs character.
She typed: [Of course not! My husband is great!]
Loganâs phone dinged again. This time, he actually chuckled.
Selina frowned. "What are you reading?"
"Still spam," Logan replied smoothly.
She narrowed her eyes. "You get a lot of spam?"
"Apparently." Logan sounded far too pleased with himself.
"Jack must be slacking. Why does your private number even get spam?"
Logan nodded calmly. "Dock his bonus tomorrow."
"...Youâre unbelievable," Selina muttered.
Then, another email came in.
Rowan: [Iâve always been curiousâwhy did you marry Logan?]
Selina froze. How the hell was she supposed to answer that?
Their marriage had started from a case of mistaken identity. Sheâd married Logan to get revenge on Ryan, to reclaim her motherâs inheritance. It had been a calculated move, nothing more.
The car grew quiet. Loganâs expression darkened when no reply came for a long time.
He was just about to change the subjectâ
When suddenly, a new message popped up.
[Because I like him.]
Selina had typed: [I like him. Thatâs why I wanted to be with him.]
Loganâs lips curved upward. He couldnât stop the smile that spread across his face.
Selina, meanwhile, noticed there was no reply. And Loganâs phone had stopped receiving "spam."
As they got out of the car, she glanced over and saw a new message. She tapped to open it.
Rowan: [Logan said the same. He fell for you at first sight.]
The message hit her like a wave. Her vision blurred as if the sky had dropped a trap right onto her.
Logan fell for her at first sight?
How did Rowan know that?
Did he guess? Or... had he actually asked Logan?
After the initial shock faded, Selina felt a strange, shy warmth rise in her chest.
She was texting a man twenty years older than her about loveâthere was just something weird about that.
She took a deep breath, trying to sound lighthearted:
[Thank you. Didnât expect you to still be so sentimental at your age, Senior.]
Loganâs face darkened instantly. He nearly crushed his phone.
At his age?
Whoâs old, exactly?!
Selina gave him a weird look. Wasnât he just in a great mood a second ago? Why did he suddenly look so gloomy?
Men... truly impossible to read.
...
A few days later, Selina received a formal apology gift from the Nelson Family.
Riley had handwritten a letter, claiming sheâd been spoiled all her life, and hadnât thought carefully about her actions.
She wrote that Loganâs scolding had made her reflect deeply, and she hoped Selina could forgive her.
Attached was something even more interestingâa repost from Angelicaâs Twitter.
In the post, Angelica admitted she was the long-lost daughter of the Morris Family and that she had a prior engagement to Logan.
The comment section was a dumpster fire, full of people accusing Selina of stealing someone elseâs husband.
But Riley had reposted with a caption:
[Even if Angelica has a previous engagement with Logan, what does that have to do with Selina? Never mind whether that engagement was even legally bindingâright now, Logan is happily married to Selina. So whoâs really trying to ruin a marriage here?]
Unsurprisingly, that post got her flamed for a full 24 hours.
And just an hour ago, someone had dug up Rileyâs background:
"Riley? Isnât she the eldest daughter of the Nelson Family? I think her brother Hunter is close friends with Logan."
"I donât care who she is. Supporting a homewrecker makes you just as trashy!"
"Please. Anyone whoâs friends with Selina? Canât be a good person."
"I heard Rileyâs studio is on ZY Street. Letâs go âteach her a lesson.â"
Selina frowned and tapped into another post.
Rileyâs studio had been splashed with paint and forced to shut down.
Twitter was now a messâsome users were hurling insults, others sympathizing, saying Riley had only defended Selina and ended up paying the price for it.
But nobody doubted one thing: Riley and Selina were friends.
There were even a few touching comments.
"No matter what kind of person Selina is, Iâm jealous she has a friend like this."
Selina narrowed her eyes.
A good friend, huh?

She didnât believe that Riley, who had just been trying to screw her over days ago, had suddenly turned into some noble warrior willing to take the hit for her.
But she had to admitâthis was a smart move.
Even Luke called her up to shout into the phone, "Selina, you legend! Even Riley wants to be your friend now? Your charmâs on another level!"
"Angelica couldnât get to you, so she took it out on Riley insteadâand Riley just took it silently. Thatâs what I call real, ride-or-die friendship!"
Selina: "..."
Seriously, who raised Luke to be such a naive marshmallow?
