Chapter 33: Fleeing in Embarrassment Logan, unwilling to let her avoid the subject, gently asked, "Didnât you tell Noah that the person you married is me?"
Selina awkwardly stammered, "I... I havenât gotten around to it yet..."
Noah seemed momentarily choked, unable to say anything for a while. His mind raced as he recalled what Selina had said earlierâher husband cooked for her, drove her to and from school, and was clingy?
Was she talking about Logan?
Selina swallowed nervously, deciding to escape while Noah was still processing. "Mr. Brown, thank you for your help. If thereâs nothing else, Iâll be on my way."
Without waiting for a response, she bolted from the office like a startled rabbit, leaving only a blur of her retreating figure.
Logan interrupted Noahâs thoughts. "Selina is the friend you mentioned, the one who owes you a favor?"
Noah snapped back to reality. "Yes, thatâs her. What a coincidence. I wasnât expecting this. But honestly, Selinaâs design skills are exceptionalâI canât be her teacher."
Loganâs eyebrow arched.
Exceptional design skills? For Noah to say that, it seemed his Mrs. Reid had more than just a casual interest in design, contrary to what she had claimed.
Noah, ever composed, took a moment to regain his balance before continuing. "I truly didnât expect Miss Clark to marry you. She always said sheâd only marry someone from the..."
He trailed off, realizing something.
Wasnât Selina supposed to marry someone from the Carter family? Logan wasnât a Carterâcould he have found another way to help her reclaim her inheritance?
Thinking it over, Noah concluded this was the most plausible explanation. "Selinaâs had it tough these past years. If you can help her recover Victoriaâs inheritance sooner, she wonât have to struggle anymore."
Logan narrowed his eyes. Inheritance?
Selina had never mentioned any inheritance to him. And why was Noah speaking with such certainty, as if Logan had some unique ability to help her get it back?
Selina practically sprinted out of the studio like her life depended on it, gasping for breath once she was outside.
I mustâve picked the wrong day to go out. Just my luck!
After taking five minutes to calm down, her phone rang. It was a director from Clark Group.
"Selina, I heard Noah will be at headquarters tomorrow. Ryan found someone to talk to him, and heâs agreed to accept Nataliaâs invitation."
Selina narrowed her eyes. "Whatâs the sentiment in the company?"
The director quickly replied, "Everyoneâs full of praise for Natalia, saying sheâs dedicated to the company. As for you... well, letâs just say the comments arenât great. That pair of mother and daughter are practically over the moon."
fгeewebnovÑl.com Selina chuckled lightly. "Aunt Green, are you sure the person Noah agreed to meet is Natalia?"
Director Green hesitated. "Well... thatâs what Ryan said. If Natalia didnât secure the project, why would she be so happy?"
Selina let out a soft laugh, her tone cryptic. "Because sheâs foolish."
After hanging up, she sent Noah a message to thank him, then attended two classes at City A University before heading home for an early night.
The next morning, Selina received a reply from Noah: [Selina, Iâm heading out now.]
She immediately got up, washed, and dressed.
After finishing breakfast in the dining room, she was about to leave when a car suddenly pulled up in front of her.
Logan rolled down the window, "Iâll take you."
Selina froze for a moment. "Iâm going to Clark Group. Itâs in the opposite direction from Reid Group Tower."
Logan replied in a deep voice, "I heard about it from Noah."
"Did you come specifically to drive me?" Selina asked, genuinely touched. The two companies were on opposite ends of the city, which meant Logan would have to go out of his way to drop her off.
As soon as Selina sat in the passenger seat and hadnât even fastened her seatbelt, Logan casually remarked, "After all, yesterday you told Noah that I wake you up every morning, cook for you personally, and always make sure to drive you around. Waking you up and cooking might not be feasible, but driving you myself is something I can manage."
"No, no! Thatâs not it!" Selinaâs vision darkened, and she almost passed out. She hadnât expected Logan to remember yesterdayâs conversation!
"Mr. Reid, donât misunderstand. I was just making things up."
Logan chuckled softly. His large hand reached over, brushing against hers, sending tingles up her arms until her hands felt almost numb. A moment later, there was a soft click as he fastened her seatbelt.
In a husky voice, he asked, "Mrs. Reid, youâre trembling. Whatâs making you so nervous?"
Selina felt like no explanation would clear things up, so she slumped back in her seat. "I-Iâm not nervous."
Loganâs lips curved in a knowing smile.
Mrs. Reid might have a tough mouth, but her reactions give her away.
Before long, the car pulled up in front of the Clark Group building.
Selina hopped out of the car, glanced around to make sure no one was watching, and hurriedly said, "Thank you for the ride, Mr. Reid. You should head back now."
Logan gazed at her with an amused expression. "Mrs. Reid, do you know what this situation looks like?"
Selina blinked, her brain not catching up. "What does it look like?"
Logan leaned down slightly, his breath brushing her ear as he softly uttered something softly.
Selinaâs face turned bright red as Logan drove away, leaving her standing there. She clapped her hands over her burning cheeks and squeezed her eyes shut.
...How does she look like sheâs having an affair?! All she wanted was for him to leave quicklyâhow does that look like having an affair?
Logan, usually so poised and detached, actually said something like that?
It must be Noahâs influence. He mustâve corrupted him!
Clark Group Headquarters.
News of Natalia securing Noah as the designer had spread through every department. The entire Clark Group was on high alert, preparing to welcome Noah.
James and Katie had even arrived early to oversee the preparations.
As Selina approached the entrance, a manager blocked her path.
"Well, look who it is. Isnât it our eldest Miss Clark? Miss Selina, the Clark Group is busy hosting an important guest today. We donât have time to entertain you. Please leave."
Selina glanced at the manâit was Taylor, the sales department manager. Without bothering to respond, she strode past him toward the building.
Taylor, fuming at her audacity, barked, "Stop right there! Who gave you permission to come here? Donât you know how important today is? Security, throw her out!"
Several guards moved forward, but Selina sidestepped gracefully, her expression icy as she lifted her gaze.
"You just addressed me as âMiss Clark.â This is my familyâs company. Why wouldnât I be allowed here?"
Taylorâs eyes darted nervously, then he smirked. Knowing that Natalia didnât like Selina, he seized the opportunity to make things difficult.
"Miss Clark, you should know your place. Sure, youâre the Clark familyâs daughter, but youâve never accomplished anything. The Clark Group doesnât have a place for someone like you."
Selina let out a cold laugh, her tone sharp. "Anyone who knows better understands youâre just a manager. Those who donât might think the Clark Group has changed ownership, and youâre running the place now, bossing me around like this."
Taylorâs face turned bright red. "Youâ!"
"Whatâs going on here?" Nataliaâs voice rang out as she hurried over, a look of concern plastered on her face.
"Manager Taylor, are you alright? My sister tends to have a temperâplease donât take it personally."
Selina nearly burst out laughing. Natalia, right in front of everyone, had shifted the blame entirely onto her while pretending to mediate.
