Chapter 342: A Restless Spirit Is Watching You Logan, did you see your motherâs face?
Daniel choked on his own breath, trembling with rage. "You ungrateful disgrace..."
"Uncle Reid, donât be angry. Logan finally came home," a soft voice drifted down from the stairs.
Angelica appeared in her loungewear, gently cradling her stomach like it was unconscious.
Selinaâs eyes immediately narrowed.
Daniel rushed over. "Angelica, why are you downstairs? Be careful with the baby!"
"Iâm fine, Uncle Reid," Angelica replied gently. "I just wanted to see Logan."
Her smile looked strained. "Logan... Iâm sorry. You donât have to worry about me. Just pretend Iâm not even here."
Selina let out two cold laughs.
That line? Classic manipulation. Trying to get Logan to pay attention, huh?
Logan nodded calmly. "Mm. I wasnât paying attention to you to begin with."
Selina: "..."
Excellent. One glance at Angelicaâs twisted expression and Selina instantly felt better.
"Sir, where should we put Miss Morrisâs things?" a housemaid came in to ask.
Selina looked over and saw bodyguards moving furniture.
Daniel waved it off. "Put them in the second-floor guest room."
Ameliaâs eyes lit up as she chuckled lightly. "Yes, that roomâoriginally I was saving it for Owen when he got married. Never thought Logan would get it first. Angelica, stay there for now. If thereâs anything you donât like, just let me know."
Angelica lowered her gaze modestly. "Thank you, Aunt Amelia. I couldnât ask for more."
"Thatâs good. Just settle in and leave the rest to me," Amelia said sweetlyâthen glanced at Selina with clear intent.
"I just remembered, Clark Miss, you never really lived in this house after the wedding, right? None of your things are even here."
"What a pity. Every spare room is now Angelicaâs. So if you donât mind roughing it, thereâs still a storage room downstairs. Maybe keep your things there for now?"
"Selina, I know it must sting. But what isnât yours canât be held onto forever."
Her smile turned malicious, full of gleeful contempt.
Selinaâs eyes darkened.
Twenty-eight years ago, Anna had been pregnant when Daniel locked her upstairs and joyfully welcomed Amelia into the house. They paraded their "love" in front of Anna, and everyone in the estate began calling Amelia "Mrs. Reid."
A stolen identity turned into a stolen marriage. Maids moved Ameliaâs things in and threw Annaâs out.
Now here it was again.
Amelia was repeating historyâtrying to make Selina the next Anna. Just like they once forced Anna to death without shedding a drop of blood.
Selinaâs voice came cool and calm. "No need."
Amelia thought she had won. "Looks like you do know your place."
Selina smiled. "Itâs not about knowing my place."
"I just think the Reid estateâs unlucky. Someone did die here, after all... Her soul still lingers. Hasnât Mrs. Perry felt something... off these past years?"
Ameliaâs face turned ashen.
"Selina!"
"Any sane person would want to get as far away as possible. So if Angelica wants to stay, sheâs welcome to it. I donât mind."
Amelia looked like sheâd burst a vessel. "Youâyou littleâ"
"Enough," Daniel interjected. "Dinnerâs ready. Logan, we still need to finish our discussion. Since Angelicaâs already here, we might as well all sit down and eatâlike a family."
A family...?
Selinaâs eyes flicked to the side, signaling Logan to head to the dining room first.
As they stepped in, she immediately noticedâthere were only five chairs.
Clearly, in Danielâs version of "family," Selina wasnât included.
Loganâs face remained calm. He grabbed her hand and calmly pulled out a chair for her, guiding her to sit. Then, with casual authority: "Luke, over here."
Luke caught on and plopped himself down with exaggerated ease.
A minute later, Daniel, Amelia, and Angelica walked in, looking for all the world like a picture-perfect family.
Amelia, still seething from being verbally slapped around by Selina earlier, saw her sitting and instantly snapped.
"Some people really donât understand language. When I said âfamily,â did you not get what that meant? What makes you think you can just show your face here?"
Selina didnât even look at her.
There were only two chairs left, and three people standing. Obviously, Daniel and Amelia wouldnât be left standingâso that left...
Angelicaâs eyes reddened as she gave a trembling little shake of her head. "Uncle Reid, Aunt Amelia... itâs fine. You two sit down. Iâm just an outsider anyway... Iâm not even hungry."
Her pitiful act instantly set Daniel off. "Who said youâre an outsider?!"
Amelia chimed in coldly, "Youâre not an outsider, Angelica. Youâre the daughter-in-law we chose. The one whoâs really out of place here is someone who stole your seat and canât even say a word."
Angelica was no outsiderâafter all, she was supposedly pregnant and on her way to marrying Logan. A political marriage between the Reid and Morris families? Much more valuable than Selina, right?
Angelica smiled coldly to herself.
Everyone was on her side now. She was pregnant. She wanted to see how Selina would survive this.
If no one acknowledged her status, what reason did Selina have to stay?
Just as Selina opened her mouth to speak, she was interrupted by a sharp clink.
Logan set his teacup down with a crisp clack.
Then he slowly raised his gaze. His tone was calm, but what he said sent the entire room into dead silenceâ
"Outsider? Mrs. Perry, Selina and I are legally married. By law, she is my wife. How exactly is she an outsider?"
Ameliaâs breath caughtâshe opened her mouth to retort, but Logan cut her off again.
"Or do you mean to suggest, Mrs. Perry, that sneaking into this house without a name or a title, like you did back then, is the proper way to do it?"
You could hear a pin drop.
Luke sucked in a sharp breath. Damn. Logan really went there.
Ameliaâs face turned red, then white. Her teeth chattered with rage. "You ungrateful child... Logan, I raised youâ!"
"I was cast out right after I was born. I didnât return to the Reid Family until I was ten. And after that, every expense was paid by my grandmother.
What exactly did you provide?" Logan asked coolly.
His words slapped Amelia square across the face.
"Weâre mother and son! Must you be so calculated?!"
Logan didnât even glance at her. He picked up a serving spoon and gently set some food on Selinaâs plate. "This oneâs good. Try it."
Selina could hardly resist clapping.
"Aunt Amelia, please donât be angry," Angelica jumped in, clutching Ameliaâs arm, her eyes red with emotion. "Logan didnât mean it. Weâre just trying to have one peaceful meal together... Aunt Ameliaâs only thinking of your future. Something as important as marriage shouldnât be decided by you aloneâ"
"You like this one? Let me get you more," Logan said, cutting her off completely, his gaze soft and focused only on Selina, as if no one else in the room existed.
