Chapter 41: Preserving the Evidence Selina narrowed her eyes, clearly sensing that Mrs. Hayes had no good intentions.
Yet, since the Hayes Family was clearly plotting against her, doing nothing would only make her seem easy to bully.
So, Selina curled her lips into an innocent smile. "Sure."
A flicker of disdain flashed in Mrs. Hayesâs eyesâthis Selina really was as foolish as she thought.
Mrs. Hayes led her to the second-floor dressing room. "Selina, feel free to choose from these dresses. Once youâve picked one, you can get changed and head to makeup."
Selina glanced at the dresses and tilted her head. "Are these all you have? I donât like any of them. Maybe Iâll just skip it."
With that, she made a move to leave.
Mrs. Hayesâs heart skipped a beat, and she quickly pulled Selina back. "Selina! You canât just skip it!"
Realizing she had overreacted, Mrs. Hayes softened her tone. "Donât worry, we have plenty more dresses. Just tell me what you like, and Iâll have them brought here for you."
Selina calmly named a few high-end designer brands.
As the list grew, Mrs. Hayesâs expression became increasingly pained, her smile forced, but she still agreed. "Fine, stay here. Iâll have them delivered."
Soon, a man who appeared to be a butler brought over the luxury gowns.
Mrs. Hayes gritted her teeth. "Selina, each of these dresses costs over a million. Surely these will meet your standards?"
Selina raised her eyebrows. "Oh, theyâll do. Thank you, Mrs. Hayes. You may leave nowâI need to get changed."
Mrs. Hayesâs heart ached as if she were being stabbed. She took a deep breath, glaring at Selina before leaving.
Good thing that woman would be ruined soon! Losing a few dresses didnât matter.
Once Mrs. Hayes was gone, Selina locked the door and began inspecting the dresses one by one.
To her surprise, they were all brand new, tags still intact, with no signs of tampering.
No, if Mrs. Hayes had sent her here to change, there had to be a trap.
Suddenly, Selina looked up at the ceiling.
The dresses might be fine, but the problem was likely the room itself.
She guessed there was a hidden camera somewhere, ready to record her changing.
Selina moved to a corner, fiddling with something until she removed a tiny pinhole camera.
Thinking quickly, she called Jack. "Assistant Cole, could you send me another dress and find me an empty lounge?"
...
Ten minutes later, Selina changed into a new dress in the lounge and prepared to confront Mrs. Hayes, camera in hand.
Pushing open the door to the makeup room, she found Rachel pouring something into a bottle of foundation.
Rachel froze, caught off guard by Selinaâs sudden entrance.
Selina narrowed her eyes. "Miss Hayes, what are you adding to the foundation?"
Rachel tensed. "I didnât touch the foundation! Youâre seeing things!"
Selina raised an eyebrow, casually pulling out her phone to start recording.
"Let me guess... Youâre adding a corrosive agent to ruin my face, right?"
Panic flashed across Rachelâs face, and her voice rose. "Youâre lying! Selina, how dare you accuse me!"
Of course, she had added a corrosive agent. It would disfigure Selinaâs faceâpayback for stealing Logan away.
If anything, Rachel thought she was being merciful. But no matter what, she couldnât admit it. As long as she denied everything, what could Selina possibly do?
Selina smirked, understanding Rachelâs thought process. She let out a soft laugh.
"Miss Hayes, denial is fine. It doesnât matter anyway. I already dismantled the hidden camera you set up in the dressing room. If I expose it, it wonât just ruin youâitâll drag the entire Hayes Family down with you.
"So whether or not you admit to tampering with the liquid foundation doesnât really matter.
"Your little schemes have failed. Feeling disappointed?"
The room fell silent instantly.
Rachel froze, then screamed, "Impossible! That camera was hidden so well. Youâre lying!"
Selina flashed a triumphant smile. "Oh, so the camera was your doing after all."
"You..." Rachel realized too late that Selina had tricked her into admitting it. Humiliated and furious, she lost control and shouted: "Shut up, Selina! So what if I did it? I hope your changing video gets spread everywhere! Whatâs the point of removing the camera? It was connected online! Your video is probably everywhere now!"
Selinaâs expression turned icy. "Online?"
Rachel laughed hysterically. "You already put on the dress, which means you mustâve changed in front of the camera. Who knows how many creeps are looking at your pictures right now? Ha!"
Selina sneered inwardly, thankful she had trusted her instincts and changed in the lounge instead.
She had deliberately worn the gown to provoke Rachel into revealing the truth.
Just then, the door to the makeup room slammed shut.
Rachel screamed, "Hold her down!"
Selina sidestepped as one of the makeup artists reached for her. "Miss Hayes, youâre not even pretending anymore?"
Rachelâs fury boiled over. "Why bother? Yes, I put something in the foundation! Today, youâre going to use it whether you want to or not! Iâll see who wants you after your face is ruined! Logan belongs to me!"
Selina narrowed her eyes. So the Hayes Familyâs promise to clarify the engagement was a lie. Rachel never intended to give up on Logan.
Calmly, Selina glanced at the bottle of foundation, then suddenly smirked. "Oh, you want to ruin my face?"
In the blink of an eye, Selina smashed the bottle on the table and lunged toward Rachel with a swipe of the foundation.
"Ahhh!" Rachel shrieked, falling to the floor in terror. "Help! Sheâs trying to kill me!"
Rachelâs screams echoed upstairs, bringing Mrs. Hayes and Liam rushing to the scene.
"Rachel, whatâs going on?!"
They arrived to find Rachel retreating in panic, her face pale and her entire demeanor disheveled.
Selina stood over her, calm but exuding a cold, unyielding presence.
Rachel burst into tears when she saw her parents. "Mom, Dad! Selinaâs trying to kill me. Sheâs so cruel!"
Mrs. Hayes didnât hesitate to start shouting. "Selina, how can you be so vicious? Trying to kill my daughter at our familyâs eventâare you even human? Jealous of Rachel and Loganâs closeness is one thing, but this is too much!"
Selina nearly laughed at how these two could twist the truth so easily.
Her voice dripped with sarcasm. "Mrs. Hayes, you and I both know the real truth. Donât even try to play the victim."
Mrs. Hayesâs face twisted in anger. "Youâre the one twisting things! What did my daughter ever do to deserve this? Logan, youâve got to step in and say something!"
Everyone turned to see Logan standing nearby, his gaze cold and unreadable.
Liam, sensing Loganâs silence, spoke up in a half-defensive tone. "Alright, Rachel, tell us what happened."
Rachel bit her lip, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed.
"Mom and I noticed Clark didnât have a dress or makeup, so we arranged for her to get ready. But as soon as she walked in, she started yelling and even tried to attack me."
She sniffled dramatically. "I know sheâs married to Logan, but does that mean she has to treat me like this? Is it my fault I grew up with Logan?"
Mrs. Hayes chimed in tearfully. "Her jealousy is out of control!"
Liam frowned, knowing his daughterâs nature. The truth was unlikely to be so simple, but Rachel was his childâhow could he let Selina trample over her?

If it doesnât, scheming wonât help. Thereâs no need to make things so difficult for Rachel over Logan."
Selinaâs smile turned frosty. "Mr. Hayes, before pointing fingers, why donât you take a closer look at this?"
She gestured to the broken bottle of foundation on the table and spoke slowly, her tone icy.
"Mrs. Hayes invited me here to get my makeup done. But as soon as I walked in, I caught Rachel adding something to the foundation."
Mrs. Hayesâs eyes widened in panic. "Thatâs not trueâ"
Her words died in her throat when Loganâs gaze landed on her, sharp as a blade.
His expression was calm, but Mrs. Hayes felt a wave of chilling pressure that silenced her immediately.
