"Has anyone seen my blue socks?" Max asked while holding a toast in his hand.
"The ones with those yellow stars?" Liam asked.
"Yes! Those are my lucky socks! Damien wins his matches everytime I wear those!"
Damien had made it to the school's soccer team while Zack found his way into the basketball team. They were both athletes while Max was a math genius and Liam was more into music.
Being in the school's soccer and basketball team made Zack and Damien our school's stars. The school had a soccer match with our biggest rivals today. Last time, they had defeated us so this time everyone practiced like crazy for it.
"I think last time I saw them lying around below your bed." Liam told Max who was still searching for his socks near the couch. "Ah! Okay!"
***
As I was walking towards my locker, I saw Hailey and Dylan standing next to each other talking about something.
Did I mention that these two are siblings? Well, now you know.
As soon as they saw me, Hailey smirked.
I ignored her. I don't have time for this witch.
Max and I were returning from our English class as everybody was heading towards the bleachers to see the soccer match. I was so excited to see Damien play that I didn't even pay attention to what Max was continuously rambling about.
"Do you know why cats don't like online shopping?" Max asked me with a big grin.
"Uh.."
"Because they prefer a cat-alogue!" He said and chuckled at his own cat joke.
"Oh. Good." I mindlessly said.
"What do cats say after telling a joke?" He asked again.
"I don't know. Meow?" I guessed.
"Just kitten!" He laughed.
Max continued with his silly cat jokes while my mind was already on the field imagining Damien playing.
"Shit. I forgot my pen in the class. Let me just quickly go and grab it meanwhile you don't forget to save a seat for me." I told Max.
"Okay, sis." He said while saluting me and walked away while I went towards the direction I had just come from.
As I was walking, suddenly someone grabbed my arm and pulled me inside an empty classroom. I gasped and immediately struggled to get out of this person's death grip.
I looked up to see that it was Dylan who had pulled me inside this class. "What are you doing? Let me go!" I yelled at him but he just grinned at me.
He pinned me against the wall and stared directly in my eyes. "Don't worry, we just want to have some fun with you." He said in a deep voice.
We? Who are we?
"That's right." I heard another voice who belonged to none other than the witch herself.
Hailey.
"What do you want from me? Just let me go!" I yelled at her stupid face.
Before I could say anything else, Dylan grabbed my throat while Hailey just laughed. "It won't be that painful, sweetheart. Trust me." Dylan said and joined the laughter with his sister.
Hailey started coming towards me with a big scissor in her hand. My eyes widened and were immediately filled with tears. Why were they doing this to me?
Jennifer, do something!
What should I do?
Punch this moron in front of you! Kick him, slap him, just get away from his grip.
My hands were on Dylan's hand who had tightened his grip on my throat. I could feel my air supply being blocked. Where they going to kill me?
"Time to say goodbye to your pretty hair." Hailey said and laughed like an evil witch.
Just as she was about to snip a good amount of length of my hair, someone grabbed and pulled her away from me.
"Let go of her!"
That scary and intimidating voice- Zack!
He pushed Hailey on the ground right after which, he pulled Dylan away from me by grabbing his collar.
I coughed and gasped for air. As the first punch flew right at Dylan's face, Zack kept going, beating the crap out of him mercilessly.
I was still catching my breath when Hailey tried to pull Zack away from Dylan. Zack however, seemed to be in an uncontrollable rage. I had not seen him this angry before and this form of Zack terrified me.
Afraid that he might kill Dylan, I intervened.
"Zack! Stop it! You're going to kill him!"
As soon as he heard me, he stopped. His fist paused in air but he glared at Dylan.
Zack pushed Dylan away and turned to me. His face softened as he laid his eyes on me.
To my absolute surprise, Zack pulled me towards his chest and hugged me. "Are you alright?" He asked in a much calmer tone.
I nodded and he pulled away from me. His light brown eyes stared deeply into mine and he gave me a sweet smile.
Then, he turned to glare at Hailey and Dylan again. "Touch her again and it'll be the last thing you do." He held my hand and took me to the bleachers.
What just happened?
I don't know.
Was it the same Zack who tortured you for money?
I seriously don't know.
"Thank you." I said to Zack who just smiled at me.
Zack's POV:
After wishing good luck to Damien, I went to sit on the bleachers. My best friend was the best soccer player I had seen. Both of us love sports, however he is more into soccer while I love basketball.
Liam was blabbering about how girls would not leave him alone even for a minute. Who did he think he was talking to?
I heard some girls giggling from behind us. At first I thought they were giggling because of us, but when I heard their conversation, I was shocked.
"Hailey is definitely not going to leave Jennifer just like that. I mean, that girl humiliated her in front of the entire cafeteria!"
"I know, right! Dylan and her were planning to do something to Jennifer today. I wonder what they would be doing."
Just then I saw Max coming towards us, grinning like an idiot as always. But he was alone. Weren't they together in English class?
I suddenly felt something wrong.
"Hey guys!" Max greeted us.
"Where is Jennifer?" I asked him.
"She left her pen in the classroom so she went back to take it."
Without telling anything to him or Liam, I immediately rushed out of there to look for Jennifer.
As I was walking down the hallway, I heard some voices coming from a classroom. I immediately ran towards that direction when I heard Hailey's voice.
"Time to say goodbye to your pretty hair." I barged inside the classroom and saw Hailey going towards Jennifer with a scissor in her hand.
I immediately pulled her away and pushed her to the floor. A guy almost as tall as me had pinned Jennifer against the wall and he was grabbing her throat.
My veins were suddenly filled with rage.
I immediately grabbed him by his collar and started thrashing him with my punches.
I hadn't felt this angry in a long time. All I wanted to do was kill this guy. How dare he touch Jennifer?
Hailey was trying to pull me away but I didn't stop until Jennifer told me to.
I let go of this guy and looked at Jennifer. She looked so scared and was holding her chest. I immediately pulled her into a hug and asked if she was okay. I pulled away from her when she nodded.
Glancing properly at her face, I noticed her eyes. Her blue eyes were so beautiful. So calming to stare into. She was so cute and innocent that I couldn't help but smile at her.
I warned those two jerks to Stay away from Jennifer before taking her out of there.
Jennifer's POV :
Max and Liam asked Zack and I where we were and what happened. But Zack didn't tell them anything about Dylan and Hailey so I kept quiet as well.
By the time we had reached here, the match had already begun. I smiled widely when Damien looked over at me and gave me that amazing smile of his.
I didn't quite understand what was happening in the game but just that we were in the lead. Damien scored two goals and the crowd was going crazy over him. I looked at the three boys beside me, who all looked so proud to see their friend play so amazingly. I felt so lucky to be a part of their group.
At the end of the match, the score was 4-3 and our school had won. It was a tough match but everyone seemed to enjoy it. The crowd was still cheering like crazy, mainly for Damien.
Damien looked over at the bleachers at the four of us and gave us a thumbs up with both hands and his adoring smile before being engulfed in a group hug by the team.
***
"You were amazing, D!" Max exclaimed as soon as Damien walked towards us.
"Thanks, Maxy." Damien replied and then looked at me.
"What do you think, Jennifer?" He smirked.
Gosh, it should be a crime to look so handsome. I mean, how can I not melt with that smirk he just gave me.
"You were awesome! Not that I doubted your skills but I was still shocked to see how well you play! I mean, you made the whole crowd go crazy for you! Even after the match everyone was still cheering for you. You were absolutely great!"
Shouldn't have said that much.
I know.
He laughed and gave me a side hug before saying a 'thanks' and excusing himself to go to his class.
"It's history, we should head to our class too otherwise that grumpy old human will lecture us." Zack said while rolling his eyes.
***
The lecture was absolutely boring and I wanted nothing more than to evaporate. My brain was already getting cooked inside my skull but Mr. Peterson just kept going on and on. Is he even breathing in between-
Zack yawned. He was just as bored as me.
I smiled when I remembered this morning's incident when he saved me from Dylan and Hailey. He looked so angry, even I was scared. Hopefully that was enough for those two to stay away from me.
Suddenly, another idea struck me.
"Hey, Zack!" I whispered. He hummed in response before yawning again.
"How about we kidnap someone?"
His neck snapped in my direction so fast that I was afraid he broke it.
"Why?"
"What why? For rest of the 4 million, of course."
"Ms. Smith and Mr. Meyers!" Mr. Peterson yelled at us.
"Why aren't you paying attention in my class?"
"Who pays attention in history class?" Zack dismissively replied.
"You will if you want to pass."
"Just look around you. No one is interested in this boring lecture."
Mr. Peterson looked over at all the students who looked equally bored which caused Mr. Peterson to frown.
"And that kid over there, he's sleeping! Why don't you deal with him?" Zack said nodding at one guy's direction who had kept his head on the table and was blissfully sleeping, unaware of all the stares he was receiving.
Mr. Peterson looked genuinely hurt and went to deal with that guy while Zack turned his attention to me.
"So, as you were saying..?"
"Let's kidnap someone and ask 4 million dollars as ransom from their parents."
He seemed to give it a thought.
"C'mon.. You guys have the experience of kidnapping!"
"And see where it brought us."
"What do you mean? You aren't happy to have me?" I frowned and pretended to look hurt.
"No, no! That's not what I meant! Shit, I am so sorry, Jenni-"
"It's fine. I was just kidding with you." I laughed, causing Zack to glare at me.
"See, living with us is already giving you all these criminal ideas.... I think we should execute this kidnapping plan, once again."
