He Xiyan had already met with four lawyers and now she was at another law firm meeting the fifth lawyer.
He was a young lawyer who wasnât even thirty, and his name was Lu Xiang.
Mr. Liu looked through the documents that she had handed him but he looked conflicted even before he finished browsing through the documents. Then, he smiled awkwardly as he said, âIâm sorry, Ms. He but I wouldnât be able to help you with this case.â
âWhy not? Am I not paying enough?â she asked as she looked at this lawyer who looked elegant and refined in his black-framed glasses.
She had already been to two famous law firms in Ye City and this is the third firm she was visiting. She had seen more than 10 lawyers but there wasnât a single lawyer who was willing to take up her case.
Lawyer Lu shook his head and he still looked discomfited as he said, âIâm really sorry, Ms. He, but I donât have the ability nor the confidence to win these two custody cases on your behalf. I would suggest you visit other law firms so that you wouldnât be wasting your money on me. I hope that youâll be able to find a better lawyer whoâd fight this battle on your behalf.â
He said with an apologetic smile. The defendants of both cases hailed from wealthy families and they couldnât afford to get on their bad side.
He Xiyan packed up her documents.
She decided not to impose on these lawyers any further and she had already guessed that they didnât want to offend either Ye Hao or Mo Yixuan by accepting her case, so there wasnât any use in pressing them further.
She walked out of the law firm and saw that the sun was still shining brightly in the sky. It was spring, so the sunlight was warm and welcoming but she didnât feel warm at all. She felt extremely cold and this chilliness seeped all the way into her heart.
She drove her new car, a white BMW sedan. Her car plate number was a temporary vehicle license plate. She didnât know where she was going as she drove one round around Ye City. She finally stopped in front of a mansion located west of the Namu River.
She stared at this mansion that was located in a prime location. The mansions around this area all looked similar and this mansion was no different.
She lingered outside the door for a while and was a little worried but she finally summoned the courage to press the doorbell.
She didnât want to intrude on her sister but she realized she didnât have much of a choice. She was the only person who would be able to help her at this juncture.
Soon, a âpersonâ emerged from the security area. In fact, it was a robot that looked like a human. However, the features of this robot were so well-defined that it made it obvious that it was a robot. The robot was named Andrew and it was very tall with caucasian features.
âHello, maâam. I will be conducting the verification process by scanning your face and your fingerprint. Please wait a moment,â it said.
Its eyes suddenly widened and two beams of red light emitted from its eyes as it scanned He Xiyanâs face.
The doors slowly opened 10 seconds later.
Andrew gestured for her to enter and said, âWelcome Ms. He Xiyan.â
He Xiyan was speechless.
She gaped at the robot in shock but since she had never interacted with a robot, she didnât know how to respond.
Xi Xi had told her that there were many intelligent robots in Shu Manâs house, so she guessed that there were probably many more talking robots inside the house.
He Xiyan entered the house and found it odd when she didnât encounter a single person after entering the house. There wasnât a single maid.
All she saw were robots of various shapes and sizes.
