âAh Hao, please calm down,â Xia Jingshu said as she tugged at her sonâs sleeve. She could tell that her son had already reached the limits of his patience. If Han Qing continued on her angry tirade, she knew that there was a possibility that her son might hit her.
âLook, your son even wanted to hit me,â Han Qing said with a cold laugh. Her complexion was pale. She was no fool and she could tell that Ye Hao had wanted to hit her earlier.
Xia Jingshu shot Han Qing a warning look and said, âThatâs enough. Donât forget whose home youâre currently in. Donât go too far with your words.â
Xia Jingshu had reached the end of her tether. She was still alive and kicking, so she could not stand someone else calling her son a bastard.
Han Qing scoffed coldly and said, âHave I gone too far? Ha⦠youâre the ones who have gone too far. You were the one who insisted on acknowledging Xiao Yu as part of the Ye family and now, youâve turned your backs on us without a secondâs hesitation. You even want to kick my daughter out of your house, so why donât you tell me who has gone too far in this case?â
Han Qingâs voice grew louder and she wished she had a loudhailer by her side. She wanted all the neighbors to know how terribly her daughter had been treated.
Han Xue finally stopped crying. She rose to her feet and her face seemed very haggard under the lamplight as though she had aged several years in an instant.
She took her motherâs hand in hers and pulled her to her side.
âMom, thatâs enough,â she eked out in a choked voice as she shook her head at her mother.
Han Qing patted her daughterâs shoulders tenderly and tears brimmed in her eyes when she saw how haggard she looked.
âXiao Xueâ¦â Han Qing said through sobs as she hugged her daughter. âIâm sorry for failing as a mother and for failing to protect you. Itâs your fault that youâve been mistreated so badly by the Ye family. I failed to persuade you to abort the baby, failed to prevent the Ye family from acknowledging the child as their blood, and failed to prevent you from marrying this ungrateful man.â
Han Xueâs accusations were like knives that were being thrown at both Ye Hao and his mother.
Ye Haoâs jaw was tightly clenched and a fire blazed in his eyes. Xia Jingshuâs expression was stony and cold. She could clearly tell who Han Qingâs words were aimed toward.
âStop it, thatâs enough,â Xia Jingshu was finally no longer able to hold in her anger and she picked up a teacup from the table and smashed it hard onto the ground.
Her chest heaved agitatedly and her complexion became even paler than before.
Ye Hao quickly pushed his mother out of the living room when he saw how agitated his mother was because he was worried that her agitation would aggravate her heart issue. He wasnât in a mood to argue with Han Xue and her mother.
He intended to let the law take its course.
He had enough.
ââ
Han Xue and Han Qing were the only ones left in the living room after Ye Hao left. They both looked upset and this was especially obvious for Han Qing whose face was so red that it seemed like she had applied rogue on herself.
âXiao Xue, return home with me. You shouldnât put up with this any longer,â she said as she tugged at her daughterâs clothes. She would have never imagined that her daughter would be on the receiving end of such humiliation after marrying Ye Hao.
Han Xue sobbed softly and it wasnât long before tears started flowing down her pale cheeks once more. Her tears landed on her clothes and there was a huge wet patch on her shirt.
âMomâ¦â she said as she shook her head and said hoarsely, âMom, I wonât go. I wonât leave.â
This was her home.
She had tried so hard over the past few years so she was reluctant and unwilling to give up just like that.
