Until I saw him

•••

Rachel POV

We had sex. TWICE. I wanted to shout to Joe who is giving me a lift home. But then, the fact that he knows what I've done with Derek makes me shy away from him. Because, well, obviously he's got a brain and his level of intelligence surpassed me by a hundred times. Of course he knew what's going to happen when I went to meet Derek.

Derek and I set the first record of twelve minutes for us to explode into wilderness. He allows me to come first before him. Well, it's thoughtful of him to do that.

After which, we had a quick shower, together. No time is wasted because Gavinski will be waiting for him at his office when the clock strikes nine.

I wonder if he found his match, I mean, from the way I see it, Dolores may be suitable for Gavinski.

Joe pulled his car over when he reached my apartment. 'Miss Woods.' He said, as if it is a sign for me to leave.

'Thank you, Joe, for everything.' I said and left the car.

Here I am, back at home, alone again. How long am I going to lead a life like this? I have no home to go back to, my current boyfriend is not somebody I can bring home to anytime.

I decided to leave the house and get some sandwich and probably do some grocery shopping.

Today, Washington's weather is lovely, the sun is shining ferociously and I don't give a damn about having skin cancer from the exposure.

Until I saw him.

Fourteen years it had been, I still can't forget how he look. He had a pair of small eyes fixed with blue orbs. His nose is tall, lips were a mere thin line. Age seems to caught up with him, his hair were now a huge splash of grey compare to the gold locks he had before.

Dressed smartly in suits and tie, he enters the black car where the chauffeur opens for him, off, they left.

Fourteen years I left him, all the living cells inside me urge for him to call him, to call my dad. Brandon and Regina Woods sheltered me from storms and rains, showering me with unconditional love that every child deserve even though they did not give birth to me.

My footsteps getting heavier that I'm not sure where I should be heading now. I trudge all the way to the coffee shop, ordered myself a cup of latte.

'Any requests for your latte, Miss?' The lady at the counter asked.

'Do you have digestive biscuits? I would like to have some.' I wanted to know what's the speciality behind Derek's preference.

'Sure,' she said, and my order is being process.

I took a sit at a corner, placing my drink on the table and wait for it to cool down a little.

A wide screen television was hanged on the wall above the counter. What caught my attention without fail were the words "President Hoffer" in the heading. He is being interviewed by local talk show host. He didn't mentioned about it this morning, or else I would have pick the socks for him. Even before he began the topic, Elsa Rice, the host, has requested for him to show his socks today.

Minions.

I burst out laughing and the lady at the counter notices me for a while. I cleared my throat, pretending to be cool and back to composure.

I took out my phone, typing the word "socks" onto Amazon search bar.

The television was muted for the sake of maintaining serene environment for the coffee shop. Whats the purpose of a television if we can't hear any sound at all.

'Could you please turn on the sound?' Requested a lady with a group of friend. I turn to them briefly, seems like they are a huge fan of Derek. I cover my face with my long hair, smiling at myself as I thought of the night before.

The interview was held in a cafe as well, rather informal, Elsa Rice wears a simple red dress. 'President Hoffer, what are your thoughts on the D1-Bill that you and your teams has been implementing on?' Elsa Rice begins her interview. I believe she is struggling to keep her eyes on Derek and controlling her inner fascination with him.

I took my phone and texted Derek.

How is she able to withstand you for that long?

I hit send, I won't be expecting him to reply me anytime soon, thus, I'll be focusing on my socks retail, and of course, I have plenty of idle time today, browsing at President Hoffer's Wikipedia is certainly on my itinerary, who knows, I might discover something amusing about his already amazing personal life...
