Anna tensed up and pressed her ear to the door to hear their conversation.
She heard Wayne say, âNo, thanks. I just came here to drop those things off. Sorry, Tammy. Iâm leaving now. Let your mommy get some rest, okay?â
âAll right then. Goodbye, Mr. Wright.â Anna wondered why Wayne had left in such a hurry after giving her so many things.
A moment later, Peace sat on the floor, clutching the latest Chanel bag with both hands as if she were holding the most precious treasure in the world.
She told Anna her thoughts, âI think Wayne did this to apologize to you. He must have realized that he was wrong after thinking about it all night. So, he determined to make up for his mistake with fancy gifts. Where did he get such a cute bag? This is a limited edition!â
Anna calmly glanced at the luxury shopping bags all over the table. After hearing Peaceâs words, she was even more upset.
âYou mean heâs still seeing Ada?â
Peace leaned back on the sofa and looked severe. She said, âOf course! If he didnât, why did he send you so many things? Itâs not a holiday, and itâs not your anniversary. Besides, why do you think he left without talking to you? He must have wanted to make you forgive him by surprising you with these gifts. Wow, heâs such a smart guyâ
âIs that so?â Anna asked skeptically. âTrust me on this.â Peace said this for the second time that day. Anna said, âThen, Iâll return the gifts to him.â
Peace exclaimed in surprise, âWhat? Youâve got to be kidding me! Hey, look at those pretty bags!â
âWell, Iâll return them to him anyway.â âKeep one, please, just one!â
âNo, I canât keep any of them.â Anna felt that if Wayne wanted to apologize by giving her gifts, and he was a bit out of line. She didnât want to accept such fancy gifts because she thought that he had bribed her. Also, she didnât want to let the whole thing go easily.
The two men were hanging out in the same bar as they had the day before in the evening âShe returned all the gifts? Wow, so it looks like sheâs pissed. Women usually wonât refuse such gifts.â Kari rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful and puzzled as he said that âIâve told you; sheâs not an ordinary womanâ Wayne glanced at him and said in an upset tone He thought it wasnât a big deal in the first place. But after he did what karl said, the whole thing seemed serious Karl suddenly acted like he had it all figured out. He said, âYes, you are right! Anna is not an ordinary woman, but an assertive powerful woman. So, we shouldnât treat her the way we treat school girls.â
Wayne didnât answer him.
âI know how those women are think. The more they compete with others, the more they get motivated.â
âWhat do you mean?â Wayne frowned at him.
Karl said confidently and firmly, âTo put it bluntly, she just wants to be challenged. You know, once a woman gets jealous, sheâll do anything. Since she refused to make up with you as you offered her a chance, you should do it in the opposite way.â

â
Three days later, Annaâs vacation came to an end.
Peace asked Anna while playing with her phone on the couch, âHe hasnât called you yet, huh? How come?â
âWhy are you so agitated? Iâm not even in a hurry.â Anna replied.
Anna placed a bowl of fruit salad on the coffee table, and then sat down on the couch and took a long breath. She said, âInstead, I think he shouldnât have called me. Actually, itâs not as complicated as we thought. When I see him at work tomorrow, Iâll ask him whatâs going on.â
Peace asked skeptically, âMy life experience tells me that all men are...â
Before finishing her sentence, she suddenly let out a startled cry and bounced straight up from the couch. Anna was so frightened that the grapes on her fork fell to the floor and rolled away.
âWhat are you doing? You scared the hell out of me!â Anna lay on the floor looking for that grape.
Peace stopped Anna, put her phone in front of Annaâs eyes, and said, âLook! I knew it! I knew was right!â
There was a news on the screen with the headline, âAda is seen with a mystery man and a five-year-old child at the airport, and it looks like sheâs married and has a baby.â
Peace said bluntly, âItâs Wayne and Matthew! I could recognize them even though their faces were covered. Maybe he did not go to Germany for an appointment, but was on vacation with his kid and lover.â
Anna did her best not to keep thinking about it. She said, âNo, donât be absurd, he wouldnât have done that. Maybe itâs just that Ada got Matthewâs doctorâs appointment for him. Wayneâs assistant said something about it a few days ago.
Peace took out her phone, looked at Adaâs Instagram account, and said, âLook, look what sheâs posted! They were definitely not there to see a doctor.â
Ada posted a selfie of her lying by the pool at a hotel. She wrote, âThank you for being able to spend time with me on this special day and wishing me a happy birthday.â
It was Addâs birthday a week ago She wrote on this post that she was at a resort hotel in Germany, which had once sparked a hot debate among netizens Peace gritted her teeth, put away her phone, and cursed, âHeâs such a jerk! Donât feel bad. Iâll get someone on the internet to swear the hell out of them tomorrow Anna lell a little confused and could near her ears tingling That sound made her feel like a plane was taking off in her ears She hadnât realized before how important Wayne was to her until then.
Anna had always believed that she stayed with Wayne because she wanted to spend time with Matthew. But when she found out he was with another woman, she felt very distressed. The last time she was upset like that was when she found out Jacob was cheating on her.
âIâll think about it.â She didnât listen to Peaceâs reassuring words anymore and went into her room alone and locked the door.
âWhatâs wrong with my mom?â Tammy didnât know what was going on and asked Peace, confused.
âTammy, it seems that Wayne is not good enough to be your stepfather. Heâs even worse than Jasper. Iâll see him right now.â
âWhatâs happening? Does it has something to do with Mr. Wright?â As soon as Tammy heard that Peace would see Wayne, she wanted to come along.
Peace had always been a quick mover. She immediately went to her room to change her clothes and then took Tammy out, ignoring that it was already the middle of the night âAre we going to see Mr. Wright? But his home isnât here. Auntie Peace, youâre on the wrong way!â Tammy said, leaning on the car window.
âI donât want to see that man. You know, I donât even feel like saying a word to him.â âHuh? Then where are we going?â âWeâre going to meet a man whoâs as much of a jerk as he is.â âWho?â
Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at Karlâs house. The maid brought them some tea as they sat in the living room.
âTell me, whatâs going on here?â
Peace asked as she rested her phone on the coffee table, âThatâs so nasty! If he didnât want to be with Anna, he should have just told her the truth like a man. He shouldnât have cheated on her!â
âWhat are you talking about?â
Karl froze. After seeing the news on her phone, he froze, and then suddenly let out a laugh and said, âWow, that is fast!â
