181 Did You Treat Him Fairly? 181 Did You Treat Him Fairly?
âI know how the hotel treated you this time. So, are you going to work for them?â Randal asked playfully.
Anna frowned and felt there was a deep void in her heart.
She knew that the Carousel Hotel had really treated her badly in handling the fire. It was the employees of the security department that should have been responsible for the fire, not Anna, the lobby manager. However, Anna was the only one who was suspended.
However, Anna knew who told them to do this.
Wayne did this because he didnât want me to leave. He was using his power to get back our personal grudge. So, if Randal invited me to work at his company, I could certainly agree. And, I have the right to do so.
Anna thought to herself.
âWell, then what kind of job would you ask me to do? Are you doing this because you value my ability to work? If you are sympathizing with me, or because you like Scott, then Iâm sorry, I wonât accept your favor.â
Scott looked extremely embarrassed when he heard the last word.
âOh, I certainly think youâre capable. Anna, I think you are qualified for a better position. I have no idea why Wayne only made you a lobby manager.â Randal said firmly, as if he had already decided to let Anna work in his company.
âWell, like what?â
âHow about being my executive secretary?â
Before Anna could say anything, Scott said reluctantly, âNo way! Randal, she canât be your secretary. Forget it! Anna, donât say yes to him. You know, heâs not a nice guy.â
When Anna saw how anxious Scott was, she felt helpless. She then looked at Randal and said, âOh, thank you for your kind proposal, Randal. But, I donât think I can work for you. You see, Scott knew you long before I did. But, he told me that youâre not a nice person.â
Randal didnât seem to want to argue any more. He raised his eyebrows slightly and said, âWell, it looks like you donât want to leave the Carousel Group. So, Iâm not going to persuade you anymore. If you change your mind, you can call me.â
âOh no, itâs not like that.I can certainly leave Carousel. But, I just think that your company may not be the one for me. So, Iâll find another way to make a living.â
Randal blinked and asked, âYou mean youâre not going to work at Carousel anymore?â
âIâm sorry, but I donât want to talk about that right now.â Anna smiled at Randal and didnât want to continue the conversation.
She felt that although the Wilson and the Wrights were close, they were business rivals. Therefore, as an employee of Carousel Group, she thought that she couldnât tell Randal about the staff changes in the company, Moreover, Anna sensed that Randall had some bad intentions for some unknown reasons. So, she thought sheâd better watch out for him.
âAre you going to resign or not?â As soon as they got home, Peace asked Anna about what they had just mentioned.
Anna was just putting on her slippers and looking for the kettle in the kitchen. She said, with her back to Peace, âWell, yes. I always have to deal with my personal grudges when I work there. You know, Iâve always liked to make a clear distinction between work and personal matters.â
âWhat? So, why did you reluse Randalâs offer? I think being his executive secretary is actually a perfect job. You know, itâs much better than being a hotel lobby manager.â Peace said as she took off her party dress. She then put on an oversize white t-shirt and sat down on the couch.
âOh, I donât think itâs a good idea. You know, he wanted to dale Scott. So, I could never get involved in this matter.â
What Randal does every day is to do business, not charity. When he knew I would lose my job, he immediately offered to give me a good one. He definitely didnât do it out of pity. Maybe, he wanted to take advantage of me or Scott.
Anna thought.
Peace raised her eyebrows and seemed to disagree with her. She said, âOh, Anna, I think youâre overthinking it. If you do this, you will do yourself no good and harm others. So, I think you should have a good talk to Wayne and work things out between you two.â
At this point, the water boiled. Anna made two cups of tea, handed one to Peace, and then sat down next to her.
âOh, this is not as easy as you think. Besides, I canât tell him the truth now anyway. If I tell him and we happen to break up, heâll want Tammy back. So, both the kids would be his. Heâs so rich and powerful, and thereâs no way I can compete with him.â
Anna was aware that the Wright family was a very mighty one in Birmingham. And, if Wayne really wanted Tammy back, Anna couldnât fight back no matter what she did.
âHey, think of the bright side. If Wayne knew that both children were his, he wouldnât wonder which one you really liked. That way, the misunderstanding between you would be resolved.â
âOh, no, Peace. Itâs not that simple.â Anna said with a frown.
Peace sat up straight and seemed to become serious. It was the first time she hadnât taken Annaâs side. She said, âYeah? Tell me, what do you think? What do you want from Wayne? Youâve always thought that Wayne asked too much of you, and that was unfair. But, do you think youâre being fair to him? He doesnât even know that Tammy is his daughter.â
Anna fell silent, and then the room became quiet.
Peace got up after a long time and tapped her on the shoulder. She said, âAnna, you should think about this. I know itâs your own business. But, as your friend, Iâd like to say a few words. I think that you should tell Wayne the truth and your thoughts. If he does sue you, then there is no reason for you to panic. Donât forget that Jasper will support you. So, heâll never let Tammy be away from you.â
After Peace returned to her room, Anna sat alone in the living room and thought about that until midnight.
I often weighed the pros and cons when I dated Wayne. But I didnât think there was anything wrong with that. Iâm a mother, and Matthew has been taken away from me by Wayne five years ago. So, I have every night and reason to resent Wayne.
Anna thought.
Peace called Karl after seeing that there was a missed call from him.
âHey! Whatâs up?â she asked.
Karl said, sounding a little excited, âOh, hey, Iâm coming back from a business trip tomorrow. Then, I can have some time off. Iâd like to take you on a trip! Isnât that nice?â
âOh, no! You have a vacation, but I donât. Besides, why would I want to travel with you?â
âI heard Wayne and Anna had a fight. So, Iâm doing this to give them to make up. Letâs go on a trip with them, shall we? Then, it will be a double date!â
Peace said indifferently, âThatâs none of my business. If they want to fight, they can fight all they want. You want to be a peacemaker, burl donâ
As if he hadnât heard that, Karl continued, âWhich one do you want to go to, a rural island or Maldives?â
âThe island.
âThen itâs settled. Iâll prepare the stull weâll need, so you donât have to bring anything.â
Karl learned a lot of things after spending so much time with Peace. So, he knew that sometimes when she said ânoâ, it meant âyesâ.
No matter what she was saying, he could tell whether she liked it or not just by hearing her tone.
Carly the next morning.
Lalked to Annd about taking her on a trip before she went to work.
âItâs a food opportunity, Anna. There are certainly not many tourists on the island at this time of year. So, itâs just the right time for you to have a good talk with Wayne.
Anna frozelor a moment and inally nodded. When Peace noticed the obvious dark circles under Annaâs eyes, she knew she hadnât slept well last night, She probably spent the night thinking about what she would say to Wayne about it.
Peace thought.
âBy the way, what are you gonna do this afternoon7â²â² Peace asked before she left.
âIâll go to Peterâs to see my daughter.â
âGeez, youâre so clever! You put Tammy there on purpose, didnât you? In that way, youâll have a perfect reason to see your son.â
âHeâs my son, so I can see him.â
âYes, he is your son. But, you are the only one who is afraid to admit that.â
Peace took the keys and said, âWell, Iâm going to be late now. I have to go, bye!â
