206 The Winner and the Loser 206 The Winner and the Loser Andrew told Anna that he still had some things to take care of in Sea Cityand he would leave for Birmingham later within a week.
So, Anna and Wayne left first.
âSomeone else was in charge of Carousel Group five years ago, right?â Anna asked as they were in his car.
Wayne had his hands on the steering wheel and was looking intently ahead. He wasnât distracted when he heard that and then said, âRichard is a year younger than me. But, he had only finished his undergraduate degree when he worked for the group back then. He even gave up the chance to pursue a masterâs degree at Yale. So he was already the groupâs vice president when I returned to England. To be honest, Grandpa used to think highly of him.â
Anna was impressed with Richard. She had met him at the Wrightsâ house before and remembered that he was a man in his thirties and looking somewhat similar to Wayne.
He seemed gentle and friendly, and always had a smile on his face. However, no one could really get close to him.
âMaybe you made Richard feel threatened,â Anna speculated as she glanced over at Wayne.
Wayne nodded, then shifted his gaze to the side as if he didnât care. He replied, âYes. I am a shareholder in the Group and I was involved in some of the board resolution meetings. Later, I felt unsure of the companyâs financial situation. After my grandfather had it checked out, he allowed me to take part in the companyâs management. But I didnât have quite the same power as Richard at the time.â
So, whether Wayne controlled the company or not, as soon as he returned to England, he posed a serious threat to Richard.
Peter was in charge of the entire group at the time, and he had complete authority. Wayne was Peterâs only grandson, thus there was a good chance that he would inherit the group later.
âDid he do anything to you?â Anna continued to ask.
Wayne said with a snort, âYes, he did some awful things to me. And if he hadnât done those things, he could have kept his job as a vice president. After all, heâs a relative of mine. Also, when he was president, the group was doing quite well. But, the problem was that he was too paranoid.â
Richard felt envious of Wayne after he joined the company. To make Peter hate Wayne, Richard did something in secret and planted it on Wayne. Also, he was also the one who spread the rumor that Wayne was gay.
It was only after Peter heard the ridiculous rumor that he forced Wayne to get married soon.
Anna was taken aback when she heard his words.
Could Matthewâs illness have something to do with Richard?
she wondered.
Richard has every reason to hate Matthew, Anna reasoned in her heart, because he is the companyâs future heir, Because of Matthew, Richardâs chances of inheriting the company became significantly slimmer. This is unsurprising, given how much Richard despised Wayne Then, Wayne frowned and asked, âAnna, did you investigate what happened before to Matthew?â
âOh, do you think Iâmn joking?â Anna said as she frowned irritably at him, âOh, 10, thatâs not what i meant. I wonât stop you from looking into it if you want to. And, if you need help, you can ask me all you want. You donât have to deal with this alone.â
Afterwards, Anna looked just a little less angry. She said, âIf thatâs the case, then Richard is very suspicious. Donât worry, iâll look into it right away. Well, anyway, I hope you should be wary of him. When I spoke with him the other day, I got the impression that he still toathes you.â
Anna kept a close eye on Wayneâs expression as she stated this because she didnât want to miss any slight change in his mood.
Wayne then immediately frowned a little. He appeared to be thinking about something and was self-condemned. However, he quickly returned to normal again.
âWell, I donât need to watch out for him. Iâm the winner, and heâs the loser.â
Annaâs hent kipped a deal when she heard his words. Then, she recalled what Ryan had said to her. He speculated that the Wrig were to blame for Matthewâs levet.
âOh, so it seems to me that heâs very powerhul. Otherwise, he wouldnât have been fighting for power with you for so many years.
Anna said tentatively Wayne replied indifferently, âYouâre right, but he shouldnât have done those things to me in the first place. You know, business competition is just for business aller all. My grandfather values keeping his family members together, so Richard shouldnât treat his far that way.â
âWhat did he do?â
Wayne was then suddenly silent for a few seconds and replied, âOh, it was my grandfather who quelled that. So, I canât comment on anything about it.â
Anna squeezed his hand and did her best to smile, âOkay.â
She had thought that Richard was nothing more than an idle loafer. However, she later knew that Richard had known that Wayne was coming back that night. Moreover, he did it deliberately to provoke Wayne.
All of these things led to her leaving the Carousel Group and breaking up with Wayne for good.
Following the hotel fire, there was a full PR disaster within the company, as well as a significant drop in stock prices. This series of things could be traced back to that night in the backyard.
As Anna continued to think about the incident, she felt a growing sense of dread. She realized that even though Richard was an extremely sophisticated man, he had lost to Wayne. Moreover, Wayne had won that war entirely and utterly.
After Richard was no longer vice president three years ago, he hadnât been involved in a single thing with the group. Anna felt that although Richard was scheming, she could tell that. However, she didnât know how scheming Wayne could be.
Therefore, she suspected that perhaps they had once used Matthew as a bait in the fight between them.
When Anna saw the sign on the side of the road, she realized they were really back in Birmingham.
âWhere are we going?â Anna asked as they looked at the road and felt puzzled.
âIâm taking you to the hospital first,â Wayne said right away.
**Yes, we should definitely visit Peace now,â Anna replied with a nod.
Wayne found her words ridiculous and asked, âAnna, do you think Iâm omnipotent, and youâre very tough?â
âHuh? What are you talking about?â
Wayne glared at her and said, âWell, how am I supposed to know which hospital Peace is in? Did you forget that your leg is hurt?â
Anna stopped for a moment before recalling that she had burned her leg. When she left the Sea Town Hospital, the doctor advised her to change her bandage once a day. Otherwise, her wound would get infected in such hot weather.
Wartse siphed as he felt resigned and said, âI want you to care about yourself first before you care about others. You know, otherwise, I will always be worried about you.â
tema couldnât help but smile when she realized how much he cared about her and added, âOh, thatâs simple! You want to LORE, Donât you? You know, you should do something about it. So, instead of working, you can stay with me twenty-four
