The car crawled along the busy road like a bug because of the heavy traffic. However, just as the cars in front of them were driving away and they could move forward, Anna suddenly shouted the words.
Tom, the driver, paused at Annaâs words. âWhat?â he asked. Tom wasnât the only one who didnât react, because everyone in the car froze.
Selina was the first one to react. She grabbed Annaâs arm as quickly as she could and said, âWhat exactly are you up to? You already said you werenât going to get engaged in this!â
Anna frowned and then glanced out the window again. She said anxiously, âAunt Selina, someone is going to jump off the building!â
Anna didnât do this because she was overwhelmed with compassion, but because she felt that she could empathize with them as human beings. She believed that everyoneâs life was valuable.
As the light was ready to turn green, Tom gave them a puzzled look. After Joe told him to stop, he pulled over.
Selina said unhappily, âAnna, do you think youâre not afraid of anything because you have Wayne to back you up? But, you know, Gabriel Group is a huge group, so its financial problems are far bigger than you think. Wake up! You canât help them no matter what you do.â
Anna froze as soon as she heard Wayneâs name. Anna didnât get the opportunity to tell Selina that she and Wayne had broken up a long time ago, thus she was unaware of this.
âAunt Selina, do you think that letting Gabriel Group go bankrupt is a thing worth celebrating? That group is not just my fatherâs business. My mother, too, put in a lot of effort.â Anna took a serious glance at Selina before coming to her senses and saying.
Then, she felt Selinaâs hand froze.
It had been a long time since Olivia died. So, Selina even forgot that Olivia had something to do with the Gabriel Group. In fact, rather than forgetting, she actually just refused to admit this.
Olivia offered Frank a lot of money and publicity ideas when he just founded the company. So, Olivia had the credit for the success of Gabriel Group.
Olivia was also a key Gabriel Group stakeholder and a member of the board of directors. The Miller family was enraged by Frank when she died. They didnât want to take possession of the shares of Gabriel Group, so they were all sold at a low price.
âI paid $30,000 for a down payment on a house developed by the Gabriel Group. I also borrowed money from many relatives for this! But, I didnât expect it to be halted. Now, my girlfriend broke up with me, and my father was so angry that he had a stroke.
God, need money for his treatment! Also, my company hasnât paid me for six months!â
1/3 The Gabriel Group headquarters was thirty-five stories high. On the rooftop of the building, a man stood in the cool autumn breeze. The black leather jacket he was wearing was worn out, and his lips were dry and cracked. His face was flushed weirdly as he was so angry.
He blamed the Gabriel Group for all the misfortunes that had befallen him with indignation. He shouted, âIf you donât give me money, Iâll jump! I will become a ghost later, and I will haunt every employee working here.â
Then, a slender man came out of the crowd in a hurry. After speaking to a firefighter, he walked into the building.
âThe bosses of Gabriel Group are all sons of bitches! None of them even bothered to explain a word after such a big thing happened. Iâm going to jump off immediately if they donât pay me.â
âHey, calm down! Weâre already notifying the directors of the Gabriel Group.â
On the rooftop, the firefighters were roughly five meters away from that man. They all tightened up as they gazed at the man standing on the rooftop who appeared to be poised to jump off at any moment, and were thinking of a way to get him out of danger.
âSir, please calm down. You can earn money later if you choose to live. But, if you die, youâll have nothing.â
âIf I donât have money, why should I live?â
The man didnât look like he would be easily convinced. He says angrily, âDonât come here! I will count to three in a moment. If no one from Gabrielâs group explains to me, Iâll jump off!â
âTheyâre already on their way.â âOne.â âAh! No!â âTwo.â âGroup two, get ready. Depressurize air bags and adjust their position.â
âThree.â âDonât jump!â
Anna bolted down the stairwell nearly as soon as the man shouted âthree.â She stood at the rooftop door, panting, and waved at the man who stood in the wind.
She said, âHey, donât jump! Iâll give you the money.â The man froze, then asked, âWho the hell are you?â âOh, Iâm the head of the Gabriel Group that you wanted to see.â
The man said furiously, âYouâve got to be kidding me! Iâm not going to believe you, little girl. Iâve met the Gabriel Groupâs executives, but Iâve never met you! Are you a cop? Youâre trying to trick me by pretending to be a boss. But Iâm not a knucklehead!â
Anna became calm immediately after her breathing became steady. She looked at the man calmly and said, âOh, Iâm Anna Gabriel. Iâm sure youâve never seen me before. In fact, almost no one in the group has ever met me. But, let me tell you, I am Frankâs daughter. So, Iâm obligated to the group. You want money, donât you? I will give you the money you want now.â
âReally?â the man exclaimed, shocked.
Anna reached into her pocket and handed up her driverâs license, saying, âThis is my license. If you donât believe me, you can come and see it.â
The man paused for a bit, and then moved down carefully, staring at Annaâs driverâs license.
The firefighters surrounding the man, who were already ready to act, pounced on him at that same time. The man screamed and was then pinned to the ground.
The man struggled, shouting in anger, âLet me go! Let me go! How dare you trick me!â
Anna, who was not far away, heaved a sigh of relief when she saw this.
The firemen held the man tightly down and took him away. Just as he passed by Anna, he gave her a fierce glare. He froze for a moment just after he saw the driverâs license in Annaâs hand.
Anna then also froze. She was about to ask something when she heard a man ask her, âHey, thank you! What district are you from? How come Iâve never seen you before?â
When she turned around, she saw a young police officer standing beside her. What is going on? Did he think I was an undercover cop? Anna thought to herself.
Anna immediately shook her head and explained, âNo, Iâm not a cop. I came by just now after I saw what happened here.â
âOh, really? Well, thatâs quite a quick response. Impressive!â âWhat? No. Actually, Iâm telling the truth.â
Anna then followed the policeman down the stairs. At that moment, all the workers and onlookers were standing there.
The policemen feared that the man would think about jumping again, so they immediately led him to the ambulance. Anna guessed that they were going to send him to a psychiatrist, as she thought that he had some mental problems from the way he spoke just now.
However, just as Anna walked down the stairs, one of the firefighters said to her, âOh, this guy is lying. He doesnât have a girlfriend and didnât pay for the house.â
Right before the man was put into the ambulance, he suddenly turned to the crowd and yelled, âSheâs Frankâs daughter! If you catch her, youâll get your money back!â
