Wayne asked calmly. âGrandpa, are you doing this to make things difficult for Charlotte or me?â
Peter yelled in annoyance, âWhat are you talking about? Iâm not trying to embarrass Charlotte! Her mother has repeatedly expressed her desire for you to marry her. If you agree, the wedding can take place straight away! Be a man, would you?!â
âOh, it seems that you have no idea about this. Actually, Charlotte is returning to France at the end of this month. Plus, her whole family is emigrating there except for her brother. So, you want me to settle in France with them, right? I think itâs quite a nice place.â
Peterâs face went red with rage. He instantly stood up and paced back and forth in the room. Finally, he marched back to Wayne, smacked the table hard and shouted, âDamn! I donât care whether sheâs in Paris or Birmingham, Wayne. You must get married by the end of the year!â
âDoes it mean I can marry anyone as I like?â
âYes, except for Anna Gabriel.â
Wayne then looked around the room, drew Natalie out of the corner where she was eavesdropping and said, âSo, Iâm going to marry her. Youâre familiar with Natalie, arenât you, grandpa?â
Natalieâs eyes widened in amazement, and she trembled all over. Peter became pale with rage and cursed, âWhat the hell are you talking about?! How dare you!â
Henry was also taken aback by Wayneâs bold words.
To prevent Peter from becoming more enraged, he said, âPlease stop kidding, Wayne. Natalie is still a kid. What youâre doing is not only illegal but also incestuous.â
Wayne replied calmly. âWeâre not related because sheâs Grandpaâs adoptive daughter. Plus, have no option because Grandpa forced me to marry this year. So, if you donât mind, I can wait until she reaches eighteen. How old are you, Natalie?â
Natalie was perplexed, then froze. Wayne then tightened his grip on her slim arm and pressed her to respond.
âL.. Thirteen,â she stammered.
âGood. So, Iâll marry her in five years. Itâs not too long, is it?â Wayne said with a serious expression Peter became even more furious and slapped the table again. He slapped it so hard that the beautiful rosewood table cracked.
He yelled fiercely. âYouâre insane! Wayne, youâre making me mad on purpose!â
After letting Natalie go, Wayne fixed his jacket and tried to make it look neat. He said, âIt appears that you dislike everything I do.
So, itâs best if I donât do anything instead.â
âGet the hell out of here!â Pete yelled. He pushed so hard on the table that the chess pieces clattered to the floor.
1/3 254 Running away From Ho_ No one dared to speak at that point. Meanwhile, his roar echoed throughout the room. âWayne Wright! If you donât apologize to me, then donât f*****g step into my house ever again!!!â
Peter seemed to be extremely irritated. Wayne on the other hand, exited the room indifferently When Peter saw Henry trying to stop him, he growled, âLet him go! Henry, if you want him to stay. just get the hell out of the house with him!â
When Henry glanced around, he noticed Peter yelling angrily in his rocking chair.
Peter mumbled, âWhere did Wayne get this temper from? His dad was a gentle and nice chap. Gee, heâs nothing like his father.â
Natalie and the butler exchanged glances before facing the complaining old man. They were both aware that Pete was the source of Wayneâs odd temper.
Natalie was terrified.
After letting her go, Henry poured Pete a glass of iced tea and gathered the chess pieces on the floor. He said, âAll right, Pete Wayne is still young, and he doesnât like to be disciplined.â
âNo, heâs no longer a child! Heâs in his thirties, for godâs sake! Why does he refuse to get married? Henry, do you think that I made a mistake? Heâs the only child in our family, so he must get married!â
âOr, heâll get himself into a lot of trouble. Did you see that Matthew has been involved in several mishaps lately? Gee! Wayne has been apathetic and quirky since he was a child, so he needs a wife to keep his behavior in check Otherwise, he may get increasingly out of control in the future.â Peter finished with a solemn expression Henry stated, âActually. I think heâs doing just fine. Youâve always thought James was too kind and lacked assertiveness, didnât you? That was why he was involved in that horrible accident.â
When Henry brought up the subject of his deceased son, Peterâs face became solemn. He looked energetic just then and depressed the next moment He said, âJames was a good kid. You know, I was delighted when he said he was going to marry Jennie. But, I didnât expect something like that would happen to him later. Itâs all karma!
guess.â
Henry said, âIâm sorry, I shouldnât have mentioned it. Pete, donât think about that disaster anymore. Do you want to continue to play chess?â
Peter stood up and said, âForget it: Iâm done with it. Iâm exhausted and need to sleep.â
Henry sighed as he watched Peter enter the bedroom Peter had been through a lot of hardship in his life. His father died while he was a child, and his only son died when he was in his forties Plus, his grandson had an even worse temper than he did. As a result, the Wrights rarely had that joyous atmosphere.
The last time anyone in the Wright family laughed joyfully was when Wayne and Anna were dating At that point, Henry thought everything was going to turn out all right At dusk, Anna returned home from the supermarket Just as she opened the door, she shouted, âRyan, Iâll be at the Wrightâs house later to prepare dinner for Matthew! So I went to the hungry. Donât worry, Iâll be right back! You guys...â
Before Anna could finish, she saw several pairs of shoes on the shoe rack next to the door, and two of which were menâs leather shoes A tiny kid rushed up to Anna while she was confused, held her leg tightly, and murmured, âMommy!â
Anna froze and wondered what was going on. She said, âHey, Matthew, my dear! What are you doing here?â
She then heard Ryan say from the living room, âGosh! I knew you guys came here without Annaâs permission! Why did you just lie to me?â
When Anna looked up, she heard Ryan exclaim angrily at Wayne, âWell, donât try to fool me! Get out!â
Anna asked, âWhatâs going on here? Natalie, why are you here too?â
Anna then entered the living room, holding Matthew in her arms. She noticed three people seated on the couch in a row. Ryan, Natalie, and Tammy They all seemed annoyed by Wayne, who was sitting next to them on the single sofa.
Anna had no idea what was going on. While Anna was thinking about it, Matthew let go of her hand and sat on the couch beside Tammy He was staring at Wayne as well.
Anna stared at them all, perplexed. She stood in front of the TV after washing her hands in the bathroom, saying, âWhat exactly happened? Well, which of you would like to tell me first?â
Ryan was the first to raise his hand and angrily yelled, âMe, me!â
He pointed to Natalie and continued, âI noticed this little girl kneeling in front of the door after Tammy and I returned home from lunch at a restaurant. I let her in since she claimed to be Tammyâs friend. But she then said she had sneaked out of her house without her fatherâs permission. Well, I was just about to call the police when Wayne suddenly showed up with the little boy.â
Ryan gave Wayne a look and said, âHe said that you told them to come to our house and that you would make dinner for them.
So, Anna, did you allow them to come here?â
Wayne asked unhappily. âWhat do you mean by âOur houseâ? Is this your house, Ryan?â Wayne seemed dissatisfied with what Ryan had just said and stared at him with a frown.
