380 Running Away Ryan had been staring intently at the radar signal receiver. After a While, he stood up and yelled in the living room, âI just found Annaâs phone signal. | found itâ
A crowd rushed from the living room into the study immediately. Wayne was the first to run over, followed by Jasper, Peace, Karl, Andrew, Mona, and a few members of Emilyâs Blue Eagle Reserves. They all couldnât believe what they were hearing.
Wayne asked, âWhen did this happen? How? Where?â
âRight now! There was only a brief signal just now, and it has disappeared.â
Ryan became agitated and even forgot how to operate it. Jasper shoved him aside and began typing into the complicated instrument. He smiled as he looked at the red dot on the satellite map. He said, âThatâs Annaâs phone signal. We can go find her now!â
Wayne said as he was delighted, âKarl, tell the police about this. Tell them the location and let them rescue Anna with us.â
âVm on my way,â Karl called the police, while Peace was on the verge of tears.
Meanwhile, Anna followed Tracy to the river, where she discovered the broken-down raft. Anna realized they couldnât get away by taking this shabby raft. As a result, they began work on a new one.
When it was nearly dark, Anna and Tracy returned to the cave, and they covered up the half-completed raft with weeds. Mike delivered the food to them as usual in the evening. Tracy didnât complain about food â379 Running Away anymore because she was too tired. She didnât even mind that Mike didnât leave.
Anna sat far away from Mike and took her time eating. She hid two loaves of bread in her pocket in case they became hungry while floating down the river.
âWhat would you like to eat tomorrow?â
âSteak!â exclaimed Tracy immediately. She looked at Anna and said, âAlso, I want some bread! Give me some more breadâ
âWhy do you suddenly like bread?â Mike asked in doubt.
âTheyâre delicious.â âReally?â
âWhy are you asking so many questions? All | want to do is eat bread!â
âAllright, Iâll bring you bread tomorrow.â Mike said. He looked meaningfully at Anna before leaving, sending chills down her spine.
The wind howled outside the cave at night. Tracy fell asleep after Anna told her a story. Anna tucked her in and walked cautiously into the woods. She still tried to repair the raft.
âAre you planning to leave?â she heard someone ask as she struggled to lower the raft into the water.
Alarmed, Anna asked, âWho is it?â
Mike stepped out of the forest. His shadow appeared extraordinarily long and slender in the moonlight. And he gave Anna a cold stare as if she were prey.
In a fluster, Anna explained, âNo, it. itâs not what you think itis. Iâm not trying to run away. Iâm helping your daughter test this raft to see if it works. She wants to get out of here, so I need to make sure sheâll be â379 Running Away safe.â
âWould you believe that excuse yourself?â Mike sneered.
Anna began to shake all over. She gritted her teeth and said, âI can give you the money you want if you let me go.â
âCome with me.â Mike said.
Anna had no choice but to follow him. They arrived at another shore a few moments later. She noticed a fishing boat anchored in the water with a young girl inside. And Anna recognized that it was Tracy.
Mike said, âThe raft will not work in this river, and it will sink before reaching the shore. You can leave the island if you use this boat.â âDo you want me to bring your daughter?â
âIf you want to go, you have to bring her with you. I already put some things | want to give her on this boat. Donât ever come back after you leave. If she asks you where | am later, just tell her Iâm dead.â
âYou donât want her to leave the island, do you?â Anna asked, surprised.
âYes, but she canât spend the rest of her life on this island. I donât want her to end up like her mother.â
By then, it was almost dawn, and Anna didnât dare to waste any time. Mike pushed the boat hard against the shore after she got into it. The boat then swayed and moved toward the riverâs center.
Anna sat on the boatâs bow, looking at Mike, who was standing on the river, feeling conflicted. But she was only sorry for a moment before being overcome by the joy of getting out of here. She was ecstatic because she didnât believe she could escape.
After the boat left the shore, Anna noticed smoke rising from the islandâs far side shortly. As if the entire sky had been set on fire, golden fire â379 Running Away spread throughout the island.
She stood up as her heart skipped a beat. She thought to herself, Whatâs happening?
She could hear underwater engines starting up around her at that, moment. Then, with a âbang,â someone shot a hole through the boat, causing it to shake violently. Anna screamed in shock as water poured into the cabin, leaving her at a loss for words.
âTracy! Tracy!â She tried to wake Tracy up. But Mike had given her a strong sleeping pill that made her fast asleep. Anna kept tapping her, but she didnât wake up.
The boat was rapidly sinking. Anna yanked Tracyâs hand and tried to drag her to the shore. She drowned in the river after choking on the water. Then she passed out.
âThose on the boat arenât drug dealers! There are two women there!â
Several people jumped into the water right away.
When Anna was floating in the water, she felt someone pick her up. âShe was so used to this personâs embrace that she gave up fighting and closed her eyes and instead. In her dream, she discovered that both Tammy and Matthew had been kidnapped by drug dealers.
âAh!â She sat up abruptly and broke out in a cold sweat.
The man beside her shook her hands and said in surprise. âAnna, youâre awake!â
Anna turned her head in a daze and saw the person in front of her. âJasper, is that you?â
Jasper took her hand in his and said, â Does your chest hurt?â
âs me. How are you feeling? â379 Running Away Anna only had a slight headache. She took her hand out of Jasperâs, felt her forehead, and asked, âWhere am I?â
âMy house. You stayed in the hospital for a few days after you fell into the river. I took it upon myself to bring you back here after the hospital said you could go home.â
Anna gradually regained consciousness after noticing that the roomâs layout appeared familiar. She gave a thoughtful nod and said, âI fell into the water. Right?â
âYou left the island in a boat. The police thought you were drug dealers, but they didnât dare to take action. So, they shot the boat and sank itâ
Anna gradually remembered everything: she escaped from the island in a boat. Someone shot the boat and broke it just as she was rowing. Then both she and Tracy fell into the water. âWhere has Tracy gone?â âWho?â
âThe little girl who fell into the water with me. Sheâs about this tall, and sheâs twelve years old. She was in a coma, and she canât swim either. Where is she?â
Jasper handed her a glass of water and told her, âRelax, we saved her. âShe was in better condition than you and woke up after a short stay in the hospital. She is currently taking a statement at the police station.â
âThatâs great,â Anna said, taking a sip of water to soothe her parched throat.
As soon as Peace knew that Anna woke up, she hurriedly came to the room and told her, âThank goodness, youâre alive! You know what? That night, all the drug dealers on the island started fighting, and no one was even on patrol. The cops barged in.
But before they could do anything, the â379 Running Away island began to burn. The fire was so large that it engulfed the entire forest. When Emily and her classmates arrived at the scene to clean it up, they discovered more than twenty bodies inside the house.â
âMore than twenty people?â Annaâs eyes widened in surprise, asking, âThere were about twenty people on the island. Who started the fire?â âI have no idea. Thank God you left! It would have been a disaster if you were still there.â
âHas anyone survived?â Anna remembered that the fire had only recently begun when she left, and Mike was still watching her from the shore.
âI heard they caught a man with a big beard. He told the police everything.â
âWhat did he say?â
âHe claimed that a woman had burned down the entire island.â
âA woman? Who?â
Peace asked, blinking. âDo you really believe that? When they cleaned up the bodies, they discovered over twenty men and one woman. Could this woman have burned them all to death and then died?â
âAwoman died?
